I've ended up in the, "Maybe I should watch some old OVAs for a change of pace" zone, and have been doing thusly.

The standouts so far have been:

Sukeban Deka (Yo-Yo Girl Cop) - I would absolutely watch more Sukeban Deka, which I guess means I have to watch the 80's j-drama now. But man, a modern anime remake could be neat. When I picture it in my head I see it looking like Kakegurui.

Sukeban Deka was orginally a manga series and the OVA adapted its opening arcs.

Because it is a LN. I always wonder why there's people that don't look at what media a anime is adapting. I look all the time when picking a anime in a season (it appears automatically either way on any site)

I usually don't check because I mostly don't care. I like starting new seasons by just clicking on interesting titles/preview pictures on Crunchyroll or similar streaming sites.

What that poster probably meant is that having a reason to do something doesn't automatically make said actions ok and that reason could also be a questionable one.

Ah gotcha, thanks for that, not sure how that applies to Kaede in particular but I do understand that general portrayal of sibling relationships in anime have people... Justifiably jumping the gun in some aspects. *nervous laugh*.

Fkn anime.

The keyword of context in the discussion of Bunny Senpai's little sister character ( so far ) vs certain other anime isn't the word fanservice, but rather the word 'creepy.'

Even if it's well told and contextually rational, more often than not little sister characters who are attached to their male protagonist sibling - even if the little sister character doesn't imply it romantically or sexualised - is still a rather fanservicy trope or plot/character element. So far Kaede's pretty alright, even if she's not much of a character at the moment other than an Adolescence Syndrome proof-of-pudding and an additional factor to Sakuta's character to avoid him from being entirely lonesome, since he's already a 'kids not staying with parents' type of character.

But it's not uncommon for anime/manga/LN to cross the line into creepy territory like in ToLoveRu or Monogatari, where those who's watched/read the material know what I'm referring to.

Index 03

Boooo Terra's death face and Acqua's response to him dying was done a lot more impactfully and with meaning in the LN.

As someone else has already pointed out, it's truly astonishing that Sword Art Online has managed to be more interesting, when we're literally spending a third of the episode watching them cutting or otherwise discussing the cutting of a tree. And as to the Bunny Girl scene, I'll also add my sentiments that her sleeping in her brother's bed is unnecessarily creepy, because it's obvious where the intention of that scene stems from. There are many other ways of expressing dependency or affection. In general, the 'little sister yearns for her brother' trope is nauseating and needs to die already.

I confess I cannot understand why pedophilia is seen as such a fruitful source of comedy for anime and manga.

I wonder if they are being females pedo played roles in this ,which is issue even the west have, check any female Pedo thread in reddit hell check even here

one of female pedo thread here have this edit

Edit: I picked the first image from the news article, but it has spawned a good discussion on how the media portrays these issues so I'm leaving it in.

mod edit: Making light of sexual assault on minors is not ok. Any post that does so will be severely actioned.

A couple of weeks off work mean I might actually get some anime watched. I should have probably started with something a bit more notable, however, than...

Lost Song

Remember this being announced by Netflix and no-one having any idea what it was, so it disappeared into nothingness? (aka the Fantastic Children effect). Well, it came out. I don't follow these threads as closely as I used to, so I don't know if anyone watched it on original broadcast.

This is a pleasant enough fantasy anime mostly notable for its singing and music - both central to the storyline and surprisingly decent, if forgettable. It's a little Macross-esque, with singing being the key to ending a conflict; its dual protagonists certainly reminded me of Macross Frontier. There is nothing notable about its production values and hardly an essential viewing, but I didn't mind watching it at any rate.

Spoilers within for the whole series:
It is, however, mildly notable for its major plot twist halfway through, where the entire world is destroyed over and over again and it turns out that half the series thus far has been taking place in a different time than the other half. While this is certainly surprising, it loses impact thanks to the Netflix binge-watching format. It does, at least, mean that one of the protagonists develops something of a personality after being something of a pathetic wet blanket for half the show.

I actually don't think anyone has mentioned it here or at least I didn't see it. It showed up on my Netflix for a short while and I even wanted to ask about it but it eventually faded from my mindscape.

Speaking of which, what the hell is Last Hope ...

Release the Spyce 3

Proper action spy shenanigans with Momo learning how to screw up and learn from her mistakes. Decent escalation all around, so still entertaining enough.

Aikatsu Friends 28

With only 3 teams being available for the big finale, Honey Cat is so being setup to be the ultimate jobbers of the season. Aine once more feels inadequate about herself due to their loss. Mio is a bit more complex, not trusting herself to fully believe in Aine, which makes it her fault even if her technical skills are still superior. Nice message this time about not only being willing to take a break when needed, but also trusting that everyone else can handle themselves without her watching over them the entire time. And thus the crux of the episode, for both of them to believe in each other and themselves, Pure Palette breaks up for now. Actually a pretty good episode that at least makes good use of Reflect Moon's contrived victory.

Nearly everything that gets picked up by Netflix disappears into the ether unless it has some strong built-in IP appeal (e.g., Little Witch Academia or Devilman Crybaby). Of course, the fact that so much of what Netflix picks up ends up being mediocre and forgettable even on its own merits, as it sounds like Lost Song is, doesn't help, but even better original anime such as Kuromukuro end up getting overlooked. Netflix's binge-view model simply doesn't match the weekly viewing model that active anime fans remain accustomed to.

Speaking of which, I nearly forgot about that Ingress anime until I happened to see that it got released as a batch up on Netflix Japan the other day and will be released on Netflix internationally in a month or so. I doubt many people would have watched it even if it had gotten a weekly simulcast release, but now I wonder if anyone at all will actually watch it.

This was a fanservice 2 parter when it really shouldn't be. It was a fanservice episode that came at the expense of Dr Traum and any potential development for Ruru. Although frankly, a lot of Ruru keep ending like a wet fart. The episode is rather frustrating because of that, even if the general stuff involved was alright. You get a glimpse of past support characters like Michiru and Kaoru, and Regina, and even Bibiri, but like.... it feels like there was not as much build up of Dr Traum's frustration that led to this point. Gelos was pretty much close to her breaking point, but she's not a scientist to be able to do what was committed, and therefore wasn't even a thought process to do this cross over that Hugtto quite frankly, didn't need.

In any case, it seems like Criasu is approaching some of their ex-employees again in a Halloween affair.

What the hell is left for the movie? I know they've got a different premise going on, but after this it just feels unnecessary. I see this is where they spend the animation budget on. Fight fight fight, and this time they were actually good. Lots of attention to detail showing everyone's different fighting styles. Certainly nice that later teams have diversified more. Of course everyone has to show up. And god damn seeing all those team up was cool. Lots of good screenshots this episode. Ice Cures, Star Cures, Fairy Cures, Multi-form Cures, and so much more. Plus the cameos. Even Cure Mofurun. Michiru and Kaoru's Cure forms haven't been forgotten. Echo finally got into the TV series. And Traum got a nice send-off even if it's still bs that this random guy got to be an All Stars villain. Poor storytelling that a major villain was beaten and a new power-up gotten during this sort of event, but it was definitely awesome to watch. No reason given why the other Cures aren't helping beat down Criasu now, but it's been obvious since the beginning that they just really don't care.

Any recent stand out Anime on Crunchyroll? Bought one month subscription today.

I have watched Hanebado, so besides that and JoJo and Puppets.

Skullface Bookseller looks cool so I might give that a whirl.

Netflix really just needs to start allowing for simulcast for anime.

Weirdly, they have done it in the past in some places. Violet Evergarden was a simulcast here in the UK, for instance (I know it was delayed elsewhere).

Binge-watching is how I consume most things these days owing to how my job works, so it doesn't really bother me; but back when I was more "in the zeitgeist" in terms of fandom, it would have driven me nuts waiting for a whole series.

It's the English title of Juushinki Pandora, which I think a fair few people were watching when it aired?
Can't say it commanded my attention then. Maybe for the better cause I don't think I mesh well with Kawamori.

Konosuba S2
to a lesser degree; Ancient Magus Bride as well.

Wow, this has everything

- 5 boys with different personalities you can ship in different combinations
- Main character that loves the sport but has a trauma so he needs to learn to love the sport again
- Older mysterious figure that is probably a god of said sport and already inspired the main character
- Rival tied to said trauma
- High school setting

How does that apply to Kaede? The show itself immediately draws attention to this dumb incest topic by having her outright state this crap. It's then played for a 'funny' line but... how about you just don't have any of that in the first place because actual little sisters of that age are probably not joking whether their older brother got a boner sleeping next to her. It's Otaku-comedy and it wasn't a rare exception in this show. Second episode followed up with an equally as 'hilarious' "You're a pedo, mister!" misunderstanding... The LN title is perfectly apt, honestly.

Most people watch anime in a non simulcast manner though. To me, it doesnt appear there are many people who watch say 20-60 anime a season, the day they come out, word of mouth effect of shows also suggests people are also not watching shows in a simulcast manner either, and based on how people respond when insert *catalog* show is added to services so they can suggest people check them out, further supports the notion.

Anyway I dont think Netflix issue is the simulcast thing but rather the quality thing. Why something like Ingress The Animation, a game adaptation which are traditionally rarely the most talked about or quality filled shows is exclusive to their service is questionable. Future sight would be great for Netflix if they could really get Shingeki or HeroAca tier shows. 7taizai was a decent start, but it has always been in the shadow of its contemporaries.

Giorno certainly doesn't remind me of previous Jojo leads. He's not hot blooded enough to remind me of Jonathan or Jotaro, and he lacks the innocence of Joseph or Josuke. I don't think this makes him boring, but it does give the show a different feel.

zzzzzzzz

Is KyoAni still reeling from Evergarden ? This looked fairly pedestrian.

ZZZZ.Gridman 03

I feel like they've traded any kind of present or future tension for this small and in the larger picture irrelevant, episodic curveball. MC- Rikka subplot was also blergh. Should drop this but I won't cause I like the chara designs and some of the wackiness.

Iroduku 03

This is just kind of there. It doesn't do anything particularly offensive but has yet to offer something of true interest to the viewer. And no, not the emerging love square.

Wolf's Rain 10

The climax of the episode was our heroes fighting bugs.

...

Dai Sato sure loves to take his time huh.

I cant wait to watch, its everything I love in sports anime. Hopefully it doesnt pull a Run with the Wind and make some of their motives just for the sake of pretty girls :(

Sold when they actually had Ryohei and Minato holding hands instead of wrists like 90% of other anime. Best anime of the season easily.

I kind of wish this target panic had been a mid season drama thing?

To begin with, the movie have a different plot, better animation and a great 3D so it isn't quite unnecessary to gather a public
