I live just down the road from Clemson so this is huge news here. Three different emergency helicopters from surrounding areas were dispatched. This was homecoming weekend and they were having a big party tonight to celebrate and the floor at the apartment collapsed because of too many people.

Here is a video from someone there as it happened...

No word on other details, but here is one local news link so far.

EDIT:

Here is an even more insane video taken by one of the folks that fell through...

Local folks are saying uo to 200 folks were there, up to 16 critical, two dead. A horrible tragedy if that is even remotely true. It wouldn't shock me if it was the entire football team.

Damn that's awful. The video looks pretty bad so I expect news to get worse about how many and how bad people have been hurt by this.

Yeesh, I'll be keeping this in mind if I ever go to an apartment party now.

Whenever I went to a frat party this was always my fear. Hope those who survived make a full recovery.

Geezus. Yeah if anyone was downstairs I don't see how you'd survive that.
I'm hoping anyone down there got out when the people upstairs started jumping in unison, that had to be raining plaster and drywall before it gave way.

Horrible. I wonder if that was another apartment directly underneath. If so, I feel bad for the resident(s) of that one even before the accident.

I am being told this was at the clubhouse at the apartment complex now, and it collapsed into the basement. It has not been confirmed though.

Going by the news story, it sounds like it was at the apartment complex's clubhouse, not a regular apartment. Although sometimes the clubhouse is just a regular apartment that residents can use.

That's horrible.

So many people in an apartment... and jumping. If there were about 200, that is 14 tons with an average weight of 70kg. Standing still. Jumping is like 4-5 times that if I am not mistaken.

I mean, if they were doing that in a regular apartment, I feel bad for the neighbors beneath even before this. First the people who threw this party were killing them with insane noise, now they just crush them to death

If it's true there were football players there and that there are fatalities this is going to snowball in a lot of directions.

I remember this was always kind of a fear in the back of my head for all the frat parties I went to in college

A party-sized crowd jumping together to the music is no fucking joke.

I was at a pizza place (now closed!) here in NYC while a party was going on on the floor above. You could hear a thunderous thump in time to the beat of the music as the crowd jumped together. The ceiling was literally bulging downwards and shaking as people jumped. I have no idea how they stayed open that night.
