Woooo! C9 made it. Fnatic, as the new favorite to win the tournament, are fucked. Gonna be disappointed if we don't get a C9 vs Fnatic semis.

Caps had 1 good game, 2 meh ones and one terrible, hyllissang was also bad. Broxah was solid, nothing that he could do in game 1. Bwipo and Rekkles carried hard

Fnatic didn't look too hot this time. Frankly they are looking like the weakest semifinal team unless caps stops inting.
They didn't play that well today but remember that G2 and C9 also had bad bo5 in play-in and FNC was 2-1 agains IG in groups

I think Caps being the most hyped player in FNC is definitely helping Rekkles, it seems to me he always play better when he isn't the focus, or when he is the focus he has someone to share the spotlight

Also stop picking Kai'sa, I feel that most teams that prioritized Kai'sa got destroyed so far

LOL @ Koreans

They really had to shit themselves in the worlds which take place at their home country. Most of the Korean fans probably bought the tickets to finals/semis expecting to see their teams...

Go EU! I expect Fnatic and IG to face in the finals.

I've been keeping an eye on Worlds results and watching games if I can. What are thoughts on the main event being single elimination? Also even though Koreans are knocked out, are they still incontestably the better teams? As in, do they cannibalize themselves trying to get to Worlds? Or is the schpiel that Koreans are always the best finally over (except in SC2) ?

Nope, this is the weakest Korea has ever been, the top 5 teams all killing each other to get into Worlds, with SKT being the top 6. Korea keeps trying to play with their methodical and slow based on vision playstyle when the meta is more favored on agressive plays right now, they didn't adapt and for the first time ever since Season 2 they are not the clear best region anymore. Who knows what will happen next year but it was bound to happen for other regions to catch up.

Also, don't know if you noticed but Korea lost the last 5 international tournaments in a row, with this one making it 5.

MSI 2018-Lost to LPL

Rift Rivals 2018-Lost to LPL

Asian Games 2018-Lost to LPL

Riot must be happy since the game had stagnated and was going the Starcraft route, hopefully this will give fresh air to LoL.

I think Fnatic has to be the favorites at this point. They've looked pretty amazing.

I also wonder how Griffin would have faired here had they qualified.

I personally prefer single elimination, especially for games with longer matches like LoL where there are no character or race matchups. It adds to the excitement.

It seems both Korea and China came to this tournament with the wrong mindset. It doesn't matter that they are the better teams when they kept banging their heads against the wall with their late game and teamfight oriented comps.

Going toe to toe early hasn't been the problem for Western teams in the past, it was the long games that always seemed to go in favour of their Asian counterparts. EU teams arrived into the tournament with their own superior strats and the shorter schedule this year didn't allow the Asian teams to adapt to that faster early/mid game focused meta.

Korea is also a special case because the Summer split was very weird. I think most people would agree that Griffin is a better team than GenG and AFS, but not having played the Spring split screwed them over. We can also wonder how well a KZ on Spring form would have fared against this competition.

Korea is still the best region, with many more good teams than any other (let's not forget SKT got 6th place there), but their gap with the Chinese already closed and the one with the Western teams seems like it got much smaller.

I think Korea would still crush a meta that favours slow, methodical, safe play based around vision and objective control. I'm glad the meta isn't that. Korea showed an unwillingness to adapt and almost looked scared to be proactive (a less terrible TSM, if you like).

The loss of healing and shielding supports' viability probably hurt Korea too (or at least their decision to never play them). I wonder if a Lulu or Janna or Nami or even Morgana game could have changed the meta of this worlds.

I haven't been too impressed by Fnatic outside of Rekkles. He hard carried them two or three times there with Bwipo assisting a bit. A few of those games really felt like they went on way too long, C9 did a better job closing out.

Not sure who the favorites are at this point with everything turned upside down, I think each team is probably relatively evenly matched. I hope G2 wins in the semis so we get an all western final.

Obviously rooting for C9 though! Jensen has been an absolute beast and Sneaky hasn't had to move off Lucian, though I do think he was going to go for the Varus before AFS took it in the 3rd game. Licorice was fine in that series, came up big with the Baron steal, he never should have gotten it though, AFS really fucked up.

Kaisa and Ali have clearly been overvalued and that may change for the next round. Kaisa has a lot of damage late, but she can be bullied early and has little utility late. The real fight in champion select should be around Braum, Sivir, Tahm, and Rakan. Urgot should stay permabanned in top. Aatrox has a high priority just due to his ult delaying out team fights, which is similar to Liss. Xin and Nocturne priorities in the jungle, Gragas hasn't been having a lot of success and should only be taken in the case of a Kindred pick. The only other thing I'll say is that I'm surprised at the lack of Morgana picks, I feel like she would be really valuable in this meta.

This all just has me hungry for next year.
1) The West knows that they can actually compete.
2) C9 is my 2nd favorite team and it'll be hype to see their rookies keep growing.
3) Next year, my favorite team, TSM, will hopefully take that spot that 100T decided to set on fire. NA only fielded 2 teams that actually tried, and I want to see this new Western confidence with all 3 spots.

I think that giving all props to Rekkles is a disservice to how well Soaz and Broxah looked at groups, or Bwipo looked in game 2 and 4 this series. Rekkles is certainly the best player of Fnatic right now and. imo, the best ADC at the tournament but I think every team member stepped up in a game or 2 so far.
Caps is in full caps mode this tournament

Amazing games. I vastly prefer these fiestas close matches than a team dominating each series exploiting the Censer meta.

By the way...
KOREA OUTDATED
CHINA OVERRATED
LONG HAVE WE WAITED
THE WEST ACTIVATED

Sorry, someone had to do it :c

With Svenskeren and Hjarnan/Wadid playing the semifinals, TSM are crearly the winners this year tho :)

And watching Caps fighting his eternal battle against Craps midgame is awesome.

Yeah. Sivir's AoE damage and Rakan's engages are disgusting. Urgot? Ugh. And if they want to go with a late game scaling ADC, Tristana has been a better pick than Kai'Sa so far.

TSM already made the first step, get Zikz as coach

Yeah that's an insane get.

And Nadeshot from 100T promised that they will communicate better and fix the problems for 2019.

Eh, it's not communication that's the problem. Can only polish a turd so much. The issue is that the roster that earned 100T the points to go to Worlds wasn't the one that went there. 100T's current roster wouldn't have the same record at all if they played the whole season.

That's the nature of roster swaps in general, but 100T were kinda the worst case scenario here (with how late they cut Meteos and then could play Rikara whenever since they already had him). Just gotta hope that it doesn't happen with anybody again, so I'm not specifically blaming 100T here. Just a bad situation

Definitely most interesting Worlds in a few years! Rooting for C9 all the way, they have been the true heroes of NA.

Damn G2 got stomped. Was hoping for a C9 v G2 final. Now I don't know who to root for tomorrow. I want C9 to win but FNC has proven they can beat IG already...

Individually, TheShy and Rookie are one step above everybody else in this tournament. What a performance.

I hope Fnatic wins tomorrow tbh, so we can get a more exciting grand finals. :")
How is C9 not an exciting finals participant if they beat Fnatic?

Anyways, I'm up right now at 1:22 AM... I kind of want to wake up and watch this live. I have pizza on the way, I can then nap two hours, and watch it live at 4.

With all the Korean teams eliminated, I'm pushing for a C9 victory. The only concern is that I really don't want IG to win, and Fnatic have proven themselves against them. I want C9 to win it all, but I'm not sure how much I trust them against IG.
