(I made a thread for it since we don't have an OT for the Switch one)
Dark Souls remastered on the Switch feels really off, and I can't put my finger on why exactly.

- It looks better than I expected (I only play switch in handheld mode so I can't comment on how it looks docked) but still, not great. Like the PS4 version didn't look great earlier this year, but this looks worse.
- Audio quality is really bad. Not always a problem for me since I like to play with a podcast as opposed to in game audio, but its bad.
- Serious frame pacing issues when you move the camera and stuff, quite jarring.
- A minor complaint perhaps, but you have to use B to confirm actions, and A to go back, and there's no way to configure it yet.
- It feels like it has input lag. But I don't think I've seen anyone complaining about it on switch so maybe its just my perception.

Anyway, thats me very disappointed with one my anticipated games on Switch, cos I love dark souls. Hope other people are having a better experience than me.

I would have to play it on my Switch but for alleged reasons as you put them I have avoided such a purchase.

But, from the looks of its video footage I think it looks like, if the game had a "lighting" option it's set to high rather than ultra. It looks like it has fewer lighting passes which creates a more sort of clay-like look than the defined, realistic surfaces of even the 360 port. For that reason I just decided to skip it. I think the graphical rendering of the original DkS had this amazing aesthetic for armors that seems lost in this port.

No input lag for me, the A and B buttons took less than an hour to get used to, and I play using the Switch speaker so audio issues were hardly noticeable. I played it for 3 hours while on a long trip and it was amazing. Portable Souls is a game changer.

I'm playing it on switch and feels great to me. Different perspective, different way of play, everywhere. It's really a matter of tastes, audio "issues" or not

I think in the ign review they mentioned they had to change brightness settings when going from docked to handheld mode.

It works pretty great for me besides the audio issues. Hoping that gets fixed in a patch.

I had a brilliant time with it personally. Didn't notice audio issues until people brought them up and even then I don't really notice while playing. Primarily played in handheld mode with around 10 hours docked.

Reversed A & B is super strange and took a while to get used to though.

Shame. Will wait for it to be discounted with all the performance patches then.

Wait they still haven't fixed the swapped inputs in the full game?

How did this even get past certification...

The reversed A and B must be based on the X and O positioning for Dark Souls on PS3.

O is select etc in the Japanese Playstation Soulsborne games.
X is select etc in the Western Playstation Soulsborne games.

I am playing the Japanese version of Dark Souls on Switch.

In game:
B is run, roll etc.
A is pick up items.

In the menus:
A is select
B is return/cancel

I disagree. As someone who has tried to get into Dark Souls several times (I've finished Demon's, DS2 and Bloodborne) and didn't like the feel of it, I'm loving it on the Switch. Of course the PS4 version is going to look better.

The A/B buttons are taking some getting used to for me though!

I dunno, Skyrim or doom felt a lot better than this, I will accept it's my own perception to an extent though of course.

If you want portability, a GPD Win can play even DS2 SOTFS pretty well, I've played through it. No significant frame pacing like this port either. I would have thought that the one thing to fix would be that, but the network test version was quite bad with it. Sucks to hear that the final release has the same issue.

I disagree, Remastered on PS4 had gameplay changes that were possibly caused from an attempt to update the combat to DS3-style that was aborted midway through development. Nothing too major, but shields no were able to block attacks even if they were coming from the side, and enemies would aggro from further away.

This version is pretty much identical to the PS3 original, with the exception of the audio, which sounds lower quality, but is easily overlooked after a few minutes of play. I hope they fix it though, and add a way to swap A and B in menus.

It's a matter of preference, and I couldn't say which is better, but the Switch release feels a lot truer to the original.

With all the issues people are having with this release I am still blown away that I'm able to play this game on a portable "console". Loving it regardless of its quirks, but I'm easy to please.

I just can't get used to the A / B thing. No matter how hard I try. You can't just erase 30 years of muscle memory. ugh
Why is this even an issue? that seems like a no-brainer to fix. There's even a greyed out option... is this some kind of joke?

The game definitely feels stiff if you're coming off its sequels or Bloodborne or Nioh. Doing any of those by any chance?

The controls take some getting used to me, not gonna lie... that is probably what I struggle with a lot, and have died many a time not being ready when an enemy pops out and kills me dead while fumbling through menus

The reason it probably looks worse is that the PS4 version had texture and lighting work done while the Switch version is based on the previous release, right? Or was that proven incorrect?

It does have audio issues and the A/B confirm thing is hard to adjust to, but I haven't noticed the frame pacing you are talking about nor any input lag. It's basically just the PS3/360 version but with more stable performance and slight visual improvements, which is all I expected it to be. Shame about the audio though.

The audio is so awful I'll never find out how the actual game performs. I'm not going near this port. Dark Souls deserves a better Switch version than this.

Frame pacing is in almost all (or all?) FROM games at 30fps, so that doesn't surprise me at all. Bloodborne, the best game of this generation, has frame pacing. It's just a feature of their games if they're not running at 60fps lol

Yea Switch is pretty much PS360 version with the updated online capacity.

But I'm not surprised yet another From Software game has frame pacing issues. These dudes need some serious help.

Frame pacing issue will probably never get fixed.

But I sure as hell hope the crappy audio gets patched, along with the borked RGB black level in docked mode.

And I hope they allow A/B reversal for those that are bothered by it. I've played DS a lot previously, so the current layout is fine for me, but I can understand others not being able to wrap their minds around B to confirm and A to cancel.

It's best to wait a while for games like this to be patched, like how Wolfenstein 2 just got fixes on Switch.

It s doesn't have the new lighting and effects.

But other than that it's just like any other version for me.

So basically the frame pacing is the same as the original? I noticed in Bloodborne but I never noticed it in Dark Souls, either on PS3 or this version.

Started playing this last night. Getting through the menus was a challenge in itself due to the reversed A and B buttons. It was like the dark souls of character creators.

What the fuck is up with Fromsoft games and framepacing issues on consoles?
Whatever engine they've been working with since Demon's Souls, it seems like the only way to get rid of framepacing is to have the game run at a higher framerate. I wouldn't be at all shocked if Sekiro exhibits the same behavior, though one can always hope for a performance mode for the console versions, a la Ni-oh.

you will catch slack for this, but I pretty much agree. That's not even a jab at the Switch, it just is what it is.
It's true of most any console to handheld port, portable consoles have to make concessions somewhere. Performance, control options, sound, etc. Not a new concept and it's not really controversial to say.

Switch probably has the least concessions of any portable console ever made since it is a hybrid, but it still has them, especially in handheld mode.

OP i kinda agree with you. Too me the game also feel off, dont know if its frame pacing or input lag, but something is off to me. The only version i have played before was the original release on PC locked to 30 fps.
