I been re watching the show and goddamn is the dude a bit of a psycho when it comes to Dwight. His pranks go from cute to some Jigsaw level shit. Like he set up pranks to go off when he wasn't there AND he forgot about them. When did he find time to make sales?

I really liked the arc when Idris came in and didn't fall for his bullshit.

Yeah upon rewatch, he's a douche and his whole adolescent "I like Pam but won't act on it" thing isn't cute, especially considering Pam is engaged to someone.

Honestly the whole show to me seems kind of outdated. It's not timeless like, say, Seinfeld.

He's an actual workplace bully who should've been fired around season 2.

Idris Elba showing up and sizing him up in the blink of an eye is a series highlight.

There is A LOT of down time in your average office.

Also he didn't set it up to go off when he wasn't there. It was there for YEARS and went unnoticed by Dwight. That's why he forgot about it.

Jim is your typical "straight good guy". He is primarily in the series to be a juxtaposition to the rest of the cast. Just by being relatively "normal" the other seem more weird.

He's pretty cool. I think y'all underestimate just how much of a dick Dwight is; if I were Jim, I'd totally mess with him too.

Years ago on my first watch I liked him. Now, I've been rewatching it and he's a complete asshole.

He's a complete pyschopath who should have been fired. If I were Dwight in that situation I would not have taken his shit, I would have given him a stern talking to and gone to corporate. Anyone that likes Jim is a sociopath. Thank god Idris Elba came in and put an end to the fun, that was the highlight of the show.

I read a thing talking about how Jim sucks because he's the protagonist, but all he does it shrug and joke when his boss is being racist, sexist and whatever else because it doesn't really affect him personally. I think that's a pretty decent take.

Dwight's quite possibly a Nazi so I don't mind if he gets messed with so much.

He's a bully.

To add to this, messing with Dwight often only winds him up more. He's supposed to come off as the relatable character but he's kind of a mean spirited jerk.

they did good replicating the aura of have a new boss and no one knowing how to deal with it
It was during a time in my life where I wasn't sure about my job security and while I'm nothing like Jim, I was already paranoid about getting kicked out the door. I have impostor syndrome so I take little gestures and comments that mean nothing and blow them up to the worst case scenario.

The dude is a nihilist. He believed and stood for nothing the whole series. His cute brand of modern cynicism is exactly whats wrong with everything in our society right now. No passion, no soul, no vitality and most importantly no courage.

Like everyone else on the show he's a paper thin stereotype that works well for like 2 seasons but they drug it out forever.

I thought of him as kind of creepy in regards to Pam, but she is just as guilty herself so... I don't know. They both kind of suck.

If you treat The Office as a portrayal of real life then everybody is terrible and some of them should be in prison.

If you treat it as a comedy with exaggerated characters, Jim is a cool guy.

Confused by your first sentence. What's wrong with liking someone and not acting on it because they're engaged?

I didn't hate Jim or Pam until they actually got together. Then they became the worst couple in TV history. The wedding episode, fucking awful.

Idris was great and it was nice to see Jim out of his element for once.

I personally think the hate he gets is overblown. He's kind of a dick sometimes but Dwight asks for it and just cannot help but engage with Jim.

Works fine for a tv show character and a foil to Dwight, but I definitely related to him more when I was a high schooler watching the show.

Basically.

Late stage gen x apathy that gets less and less fashionable as time goes on.

You people who think Jim is a psycho, what word would you use to describe Dwight, the guy who set the office on fire after locking his coworkers inside?

Dwight is a workplace tyrant and himself a bully (see: his relationship with Andy and any situation in which his misogyny shows.)

Whatever Jim did to take him down a peg is 100% justified. Not dissimilar to screaming Tucker Carlson out of a restaurant.
