Been said a million times already, but man the swinging is so much fun in this game. It reminds me a lot of Sunset Overdrive where I would spend time just aimlessly traversing the city between story missions because it just felt so satisfying.

Finally wrapped up the main story tonight, though still have some side quests left that I will probably finish up over the next few days. I really enjoyed the story a lot. I'm not very knowledgeable on Spiderman lore (outside what has been presented in previous movies) so it was fun to see some new characters along with familiar faces. One thing I've always liked about Spiderman stories is seeing Peter's struggle between the responsibilities of being Spiderman and those of being Peter Parker. While I think this story focuses a lot on the former, I did like the "Peter" moments a lot in the story, and I hope that's something they potentially do more of in the inevitable sequel.

I also liked the MJ and Miles moments, particularly the final segments you get to play as them. I liked the sequence where Miles is trying to get hide/get away from Rhino, as it's one of those rarer moments (at least in a superhero game) where you get to experience the POV of a regular person and just imaging the terror of seeing a massive villain like that without any superpowers to bail you out.
The last MJ scene in the Osborn apartment was also nice, if only to provide some of the backstory into Harry's childhood. I almost felt like I was playing a "mini" version of Gone Home, examining all the items in the apartment and learning the backstory.

Insomniac's Bryan Intihar wonders if people are ever satisfied with the amount of content they get in DLC.

Getting ahead of complaints? I mean it's a silly question, people are often satisfied with DLC:

Undead Nightmare
Old Man Daud
Blood and Wine
Frozen Wilds
Mooncrash

Off the top of my head.

Done everything except crimes and secret photos. Grinding out the crimes isn't as boring as I had feared. Just cruising around town beating up bad guys in your own time is kinda therapeutic. Hunting out these photos, less so. It's okay at the moment, but I'm gonna be pulling my hair out when I have, like, one or two left to find.

Finished the game last night got the 100% completion (only thing I didn't do were the secret photo ops, even did all the optional objectives and got gold on the Taskmaster stuff). Spoilers follow (but nothing you wouldnt know from inferring basic stuff)

Pros:

- A better than it needed to be story that goes a little further than "bad guy wants to take over city". I mean, for a superhero game, not bad. I'm glad I played through the story spoiler free,
because I didn't even realize the Sinister Six would be in the game (I mean obviously it hints at it heavily but them being all introduced at once was really neat)

- Generally feels like Spider-Man. From the voice acting, to the tone, to the visuals. If you love Spidey, you'll like it

- The movement/swinging just works. It's not perfection (and in fact, I still do sort of prefer the wacky extreme momentum of Spider-Man 2 to this) but it's consistently fun to swing around which is a huge accomplishment

- The gadgets and suit powers were a must needed stroke of variety for the combat. I still found useful combinations deep into my playthrough

- THAT POST-CREDITS SCENE (the second one)

Cons:

- Man is the side content repetitive. I don't need everything to have deep story implications or anything, but the crimes and based get REALLY repetitive by the time
Sable international rolls around
and makes all of those missions longer

- The combat is leaned on a bit too heavily at times, the bases always felt like they went 2-3 waves of enemies too long.

- The demon focused section of the story really drags, and
Martin Li/Mr. Negative is just not very compelling as a villain. I guess the game realized that too and that's why Doc Ock becomes the big bad at the end anyway.

- The DLC teases, from Black Cat to Taskmaster, were super lame.

Ultimately feels like a 7/10 type of game. These open world games aren't really for me, but the novelty of a good Spider-Man game is enough to carry it.

Spoiler tagged some crucial stuff, just so no one gets mad (although honestly was a single "twist" in this game not foreshadowed super obviously 15 hours beforehand?)

"A ad was bad! so I take it as a cons!" LOL!

I mean, it was a part of the game, both were sidequests. If a sidequest only exists to function as an uninteresting ad for DLC, yeah I'm gonna knock the game for it. If it was a commercial or something, that's one thing. It's literally part of the game/story

So despite saying I was done with the game I ended up mopping up a bunch of the shitty side content anyway. All that remains is doing all the crimes in each district.

Yeah I really am calling it quits now. Jesus christ is there a lot of these. And it's all stuff that had already started to repeat itself within like the first hour of the game.

Is this English? What are you even talking about?

We have one trailer for the DLCs and we dont know anything about the other DLCs, not even if Taskmaster will return at all and you are already proclaiming that these are lame? Based on what, because the trailer sucked? Wait at least until it is released.

I. Didn't. Say. Anything. About. The. Trailer.

I said that the Black Cat sidequests, which were functionally an IN GAME advertisement for forthcoming Black Cat DLC, were done poorly. Just READ man

As for Taskmaster being DLC............. I think it's pretty obvious.

They meant the Black Cat side mission that was just a tease of the DLC.

EDIT: Yeah^

I must be one of the few who enjoy clearing bases, they were good for trying out some new combos or just showing off.

The only side activity I hated were the drone chasing challenges, seriously fuck those, I made sure they were the first ones I clear and even get the gold in all of them. The combat challenges weren't bad, Buuuut I ended up loving the stealth challenges, figuring out the right order to take each guard and then repeating it till I got the gold was pretty fun.

Anyway, I'm pretty close to the platinum. Got two secret trophies left and 100% a couple of districts with like 6-7 random crimes total.
I wanna squeeze some short game between this and RDR next week, probably Soma, but we'll see.

Is it me or the game becomes way more fun after..

The gathering of the sinister six and when the city becomes chaotic

I didn't like it so much because of the random, non-crime enemies. I guess it would be more fun if you had already grinded out the other sidequests, but I found it more annoying.

Plus, I love the tone of fall, late afternoon New York and swinging around and making quips more.

Finally beat Spider-Man over the weekend. Loved it and am definitely going to jump back in to finish up the side content and get the platinum trophy. I started wearing the classic suit and then swapped to the Mark IV armor once I unlocked it.

It's made me want to go back and read the Spider-Man comics. I know that people that got a physical edition got a code for a free month of Marvel Unlimited. Does anyone have one they'd give to me? I got the game digitally so no code for me :(

Just beat it last night and pretty much love it. It doesnt do much brand new gameplay wise but playing as Spidey is way more enjoyable than Batman or assasins creed guy.

I have one big issue with the story which is
pretty much anything to do with miles. Like holy shit we get it hes important and will eventually become a Spiderman but they treat him like some prophecy child. Hes super brave and risks his life dodging rhino for 2 bottles of amoxicillin? Its like the games screaming at you HEY MILES IS IMPORTANT with all the plot armor protecting him. He doesnt even come off as a person to me its like they threw character traits in a blender like "strong sense of justice, super smart hacker, has the courage of a lion" he doesnt come off as a person to me.

By the end i felt he didnt deserve his powers because of how the game was shoving down our throats how pure and good he is. And if you attribute a personality to him hes just another peter. I hope the sequel improves on this because everything else in the game is great i just came out hating miles.

Yeah he felt a bit forced. I didn't like him for most of the game but he grew on me and I was fine with him at the end.

So, is the Level 50 cap gone, now? I was Level 49 before NG+, did the Fisk mission and now I have 2471 xp out of 25,000 needed for the next level?

So I'm supposed to think JJJ is an idiotic Right Wing pundit or something? Because every once in a while he comes up with a really valid point about Peter's recklessness, like how he nearly caused an explosion taking down Tombstone.

Uh, I think I ran into a weird glitch.

I reached the part where you play as MJ in Grand Central station and quit the game , and when I booted the game back up I was Spider-Man with full control. Wall crawming, zip-lining, throwing objects, everything.

Also the writing is good when it wants to be, which is often, but the game... kinda stinks at it sometimes.

You can tell this is a Dan Slott story because the way he writes Doctor Octopus sucks.

Man I was excited for this update and the new game plus is gonna be a nice play through.

But damn it they still haven't added a hudless option. Like that's all I want in this game right now lol. The HUD is just too distracting and the mini map feels pretty pointless to me. I really hope they give an option for it in a future update.

Finally beat the game. 8/10

+ Controls are extremely fluid
+ Good sense of what it would feel like to be spiderman
+ Graphics are top notch
+ New York recreated really well
+ Strong story finish

- Side missions are boring
- Too many token quests and are all repetitive as all hell
- Stealth missions with mj/miles were boring and repetitive
- Boss fights are far too simple and QTE heavy
- Pacing wasn't the best, especially with boss fights

All in all, it reminded me of a 2018 version of infamous second son.

Best Spidey game I've played, but not entirely a pleasant experience.

Coming from the comics of the 80s and 90s, MJ the investigative journalist rubbed me wrong straight from the bat. I understand that shoveling Jonah into retirement and lessening his role was about not telling the same Spidey "origin stories" for the nth time, but it felt sad. He didn't go anywhere really with his rants and having it as the only station that Spidey tuned into felt so dumb that I rushed to start "whatever" to break the monologue.

My main issue, however, is how the main story was so scattered, repetitive and missed entirely the most interesting bits. I didn't feel the ending stuff correlated to how Spidey behaved during the story. Suddenly in the end things were uber important that he didn't give much thought or focus beyond a shrugging remark.

Also, the sheer number of duplicated events throughout Manhattan wore me down fast.

I do understand that bringing Manhattan in this kind of glory for the players and making Spidey move (mostly) fantastically around it is an achievement, but I think we're bumping heads with the gripes of ye olde Assassin's Creed: big world with very little fun things to do.

A solid 3/5 from me. Kinda feel stupid to get this and the DLC for 80 euros. Strangely enough, would've felt better about the game if I would've waited and get the game + DLCs pack for half the price.

How do I get these last X3 challenge tokens without destroying my controller in a fit of rage. God I hate them so much, especially the drone ones. They are the only parts of the game that show the flaws of movement because it always fucks up due to needing precise control. I just...ugh.

I had Japanese Art in college, coming to the museum as MJ and look at the art pieces was a really cool way to remember what I learned.

I completely agree that we need a hud-less option. We also need a cutscene viewer and a way to replay any mission we want.

NG+ on Ultimate difficulty is pretty easy at the start because of having all the upgrades and being comfortable with the combat already. I'll see how that changes as the game gets harder later. I do wonder if we'll be able to get even more challenge tokens which would make it dead simple to unlock everything without getting good at the challenges since you'd have the tokens and unlocks already from the first runthrough of the game.

I know Scorpion is a lame villain but

turning him into a low rent Scarecrow for some of a trippy hallucination bit, while fun to swing through the submerged city, was maybe not the way to go.

That's the whole point of JJJ: his hatred of Spider-man is largely irrational and makes no sense, but he's not a total moron and is capable of making good points and being good at his job when Spidey isn't as involved. It comes off a little bit, but having him take a total backseat really means that the game misses out on probably the best character dynamic in the series.

I'd imagine they might want to build up to it. It would be a bit too soon to tackle something like that in the first game, I think.
