Halloween is tracking for $70M+ this weekend. Box Office Pro is predicting 80M.

Venom could be dethroned for the October record after 2 weeks.

I'm curious if the massive boost in popularity for the franchise will be felt at all overseas. There doesn't seem to be any hype or marketing here in Australia but who knows.

Venom's is for sure passing Solo by the weekend

I still don't understand where that film went wrong with the public

Halloween was not good. The script was all over the place, it had unnesseccary comedy in it, dialogue was quite cringe at parts, there were too many characters that meant nothing, it had moments when you went "wtf?", the ending was just illogical... it's a mess. It had few good moments and Jamie Lee Curtis is gorgeous.

Didn't like it at all and I'm a huge horror fan.

I haven't seen much marketing here in England either but tickets seem to be selling well for Friday night at my cinema at least. Only went on sale on Tuesday night.

Halloween 11 dominating the box office in 2018 would be just the best thing ever

Miramax/Blumhouse's Halloween is poised to explode this weekend at the box office for Universal. There are wild estimates out there that the Jamie Lee Curtis horror film could even do potentially — yes — $100M over three days, but saner projections are now at $70M. Everyone is excited because theatrical pre-sales for Halloween are outstripping It in certain multiplexes.

They also have the Grinch opening to $50M+ and Dragon Tattoo flopping.

I for one, am shocked that a sequel to a film SEVEN years old.. with a completely turned over cast/crew.. that people asked for 5 years ago.. is gonna flop.
Lol!

Whoever thought this was a good idea was sorely mistaken. The Girl with a Dragon's Tattoo will always have a special place in my heart for being the first Rated-R film I saw in theatres.

Shame is The Girl in the Spider's Web has a solid director in Fede Alvarez and pretty great cast. But it was always gonna be an uphill battle losing Fincher and the all the previous actors.

Yeah, for what it's worth I think I'll see this one regardless because of the people that are attached (and the story hits a lot of the James Bond beats, based on the trailer), I wonder if the marketing for it was just off in some way. We saw it super early and then it nothing for the longest time. It never seemed to pick up any steam. I honestly forgot that it was coming out or had not already.

Halloween was so dumb I lost a lot of brain cells just watching it. Its literally holding yourself back from screaming at the screen as people do the dumbest shit and every horror movie trope is check marked on the list. Still probably gonna be a big success though.

You're watching something and you're going...I guess I expected that we would finally get here in the superhero universe, but I can't believe we're here. Dave Wilson, who's directing it. Guy Pierce, who's in it is insane. We just have a great cast. Sony, you know that Sony is finally going to lead the charge in the superhero movies of the future because they're incorporating a part of reality and incorporating issues that exist in society and embedding them into a quote-unquote superhero movie. It's just awesome."

Saw Venom earlier today and it was so fucking dumb, but I had a great time. It was exactly what I was needing, which is just silly entertainment. Gimme more, especially the Eddie/Venom stuff, because their relationship was so fun.

And then saw Halloween tonight. This needs to make all the fucking money. At last, a legit great sequel to the original. It only took 40 years.

The October OW record used to be $55m, and then Venom came around and made $80m.

Right now January and October are the only months to not have an OW at $100m or higher. How perfect would it be for Halloween to be the one to break that record?

the sheer desperation of them adding "A NEW DRAGON TATTOO STORY!" to all the marketing is palpable. "PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO US! WE'RE LIKE THAT ONE MOVIE YOU SAW, WE PROMISE!"

Given the uphill battle they faced, I don't get why the title wasn't

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 3:The Spiders Web

Or some variation.

Because of the original books.

That said I just recently watched the Fincher's take on this. It was decent, but compared to the original Millennium series from sweden it was bad. I just love the original Millennium trilogy series.

Yup. Bad Times at the El Royale is easily one of the best movies of the year so far. The advertising was on point too so I'm not really sure what more they could have done. :(
The marketing was awful.

Stupid dancing Chris Hemsworth, the girl from The Color Purple singing apropos of nothing, and they managed to make Jon Hamm look ugly.

And the title is a mouthful. Still better than the White Boy Rick commercials, though.

Fuck it, pay the OG Friday 13tj dude all the money and do a classic slasher team up film, but with Pameka Voorhees in The Hulk role. Billion guaranteed.

"Mrs Voorhees, Now's a time to summon Jason."
"That's my secret, Chucky. I'm always Jason."

Then she grows three feet and turns into Savini Jason and I don't know kills the Archangel Michael or something (who's naturally possessing Michael Myers as his tyre vessel.)

I was honestly expecting IMAX to announce a last minute Halloween release. Can't imagine they're too enthused about First Man staying on screen another week.
