Also, the game does not pause when you return to the switch home screen.
If you're in a group of enemies/combat and you back out to the homescreen, on resuming you'll most likely find yourself dead.

Ignore - that's when you go to the homescreen.
Putting it into sleep pauses the game.
did you miss the whole thread with people losing their minds over this non-news lol

There is a Day 1 Patch. But I don't know if these footages are up-to-date.

The footage is taken from the current 'final release' (what people get on the game card or digital download). However nobody seems to know what the mythical day one patch does - it may (or may not) fix the audio issues. I guess time will tell.

I played for a bit today. There is a day one patch, not sure what was on it. I didn't have any problems with the audio but that's not to say this problem was fixed or anything

your test won't tell us anything worthwhile without the patch being live.

flatearthpandas said a few messages above: "I played for a bit today. There is a day one patch, not sure what was on it. I didn't have any problems with the audio but that's not to say this problem was fixed or anything"

Therefore I would assume that everyone who has played the game and uploaded videos has already had it automatically patched?

Or maybe not?

Wouldn't assume that without explicit confirmation and everyone comparing version numbers. I wish people would just be explicit and clear about these details. I mean, they must know these basic things and not be mindless robots posting footage for cl--- oh. :)

The game updates to 1.0.2 as of now. I can't tell you about the audio but the system menu still doesn't allow you to switch accept and cancel buttons so I put the game aside until tomorrow just in case. The option is there but greyed out just like in the network test.

Would love to know if the audio is any different.

I'll be home in about an hour and I can check specific details. But retail Japanese release was today. I picked it up from the store and it downloaded a patch when I opened the game. Would assume the patch is live for my version at least. Again no idea if the issue is solved or not but I played the intro docked and in handheld and didn't find the audio offensive. But it's possible I don't have the same standards or just didn't notice since I was kind of multitasking

We have very very clear examples of the audio in this thread (see OP) so if you can't notice it in those, you're unfortunately not helpful to our cause at large here :/

Fucking lol. This is serious business, apparently. Jesus.

Audio sounds fine to me. Servers aren't live yet so I don't want to play too much offline but so far it's DS Remastered but 30fps. The patch was pretty small so it couldn't have been anything major.

Yikes if they still haven't enabled button mapping for Confirm/Cancel.

How'd this shit get past cert?

Someone had a theory that Nintendo has a requirement that menu inputs cannot be changed in-game.

I have no idea if that's true or not but it's honestly the only thing I can think of that makes any bit of sense (not that it makes much).

Played a couple of hours last night, mix of TV and handheld. If I hadn't read about the audio issues here, I wouldn't have noticed them at all.
Confirm being on the wrong button I did notice, however. So annoying when you enter your name at the start and it uses a different button!

It's pathetic, it really is.

Apparently Nintendo Life have a different definition of 'perfect' to the rest of us. Either that or they have a patched version with 'perfect' audio (which seems unlikely).

What a load of ......... &^$%$*^$

I'm fuming about this audio issue.

Well it kinda is, since we're on page 8 about this issue and people would like to know for sure what the situation is with that now.

This is all USGamer hat about the day-1 patch ...again nothing about audio, just camera and why there's no official docked footage:
The camera controls become noticeably laggy when the Switch version is docked, and this issue doesn't exist at all when Dark Souls is in handheld mode. Bandai Namco says that a day one patch should fix many minor issues in the review copy, but it remains to be seen whether this camera issue is one of them. Aside from that glaring flaw, Dark Souls seemed to run fine.

I'm a big fan of Dark Souls and didn't even notice a drop in audio quality. I think this is an issue that will effect some more than others but I've played the Switch version for over 35 hours and audio quality always seemed fine to me.

Not to dismiss the issue, I just didn't include it in my review because it doesn't reflect my own opinions.

What an utter mess on the Switch.
Half the framerate, frame pacing stutters and awful audio.
Damn.

Yeah for me this was going to be a non issue anyway but to be perfectly honest l wouldn't have noticed the drop in quality without watching the comparison video in the OP. I guess some people are just more sensitive to it than others.

It sucks that it's a problem for many of you. I hope it gets fixed.

I don't know how this works so I'm actually curious about this:

Do professional reviews typically compare remasters to the originals as some sort of rule of thumb or is the remastered version judged completely on its own merits? I assume most outlets will differ but I'm wondering if there's some sort of 'unwritten rule' about this?

I can actually understand overlooking this issue a lot more than the missing ambient audio in the other Remastered versions. Not you specifically, I mean in general, that one was a lot more glaring as far as audio issues go to me.

Depends on the outlet and what angle they're taking for the review. Some might just review the game, others may look at the technical improvements. I went back to the PS3 verison before our code came in to see if my memories of the frame rate were reliable (not just in Blighttown) so it was rather fresh in my mind.

Reviewers need to play so many games that unless they are really dedicated Souls fans they are unlikely to remember things like sound quality between versions.

I'm not an audiophile but I can notice that the audio is clearly inferior, but definitely not a factor to not buy it (Preloaded on my Switch waiting to midnight :__ )

you dont have to be an audiophile to notice the tiny sound and compression artifacts but hopefully they can fix that with a patch or an audio pack download. But to me what was more distracting was the framepacing, a shame they couldnt fix that
