I need my Haikyu Season 4 :(

Bunny Girl anime

So it isn't going to be about him saving bunny girl but instead different arcs saving different people? Interesting.

Was the part at the end supposed to make the viewer cringe? I felt it was but I am not sure.

So not only the conversations with both of them remind me of Bakemonogatari, but they also do arcs like this to solve problems now lol

Shigurui

Just finished watching the Shigurui anime adaptation. What a massive disappointment. Huge chunks of the manga left out including the freaking ending. They start the same way the manga begins by showing the start of the final battle. Then they go back in time also like the manga. But, the anime never shows like 60% of the events leading to the final fight. It just ends abruptly, never showing how the fighters got into the physical state they were in when they were first shown in episode 1... Uhhh, pretty stupid. I also didn't like the visuals... Way too much grey and white. Everything looks bleached white or way too dark. It like Madhouse wanted to make the bleakest anime ever.

Wish someone would try adapting it again with the intention of trying to faithfully adapt most of the story and doing the visual in a more colorful and less oppressive style. Not holding my breath though... I'm surprised Shigurui isn't more popular. A big part of it I guess is that the manga was never translated and published in English. I always see people comparing dark stuff to BERSERK, and the comparisons almost never work, but Shigurui is basically BERSERK in feudal Japan.

Ok, this is going into my 'will watch till the end' bucket. It does feel fast-paced, but 3 episodes to tell a whole LN arc that still feels wholesome, has a distinct feel while adding its own little touches make this an enjoyable watch. I like how the story, while being emotional - keeps a tone that feels 'cold', and even at the moment where both of them reunite at the end and it feels like the perfect spot for a sappy time, the direction stays with the tone it's been.

It's no Haruhi, it's no Bakemono and it's no Snafu - but it's got elements of all 3 that blends in quite nicely and carried by a nice couple with decent bantz.

I mean. It's just an incomplete adaptation, like most. They didn't omit the material you're talking about, they just never got the necessary S2 to do the rest. The portion they covered was done pretty faithfully IIRC.

I also disagree about the visuals. I think Hamasaki's unique style is a great fit for the series and if anything, it elevates it even above its source material.

The FunimationxCrunchyroll partnership is ending.

"Dear CR users,

As many of you know, we have had an ongoing partnership with Funimation the last two years, sharing anime between users. Unfortunately, Funimation has decided to go their separate way, and this partnership will be winding down on Friday, November 9th.

For our Crunchyroll community, this means that you'll still be able to access the biggest anime library in the world. However, a list of select catalog titles licensed via Funimation will be leaving Crunchyroll - likewise, the Funimation catalog will also be impacted. That list is currently being finalized between both parties, and we will share impacted titles with you as available. Currently-airing simulcasts and series that premiered during the partnership will continue to be available on Crunchyroll, including favorites like Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia. Additionally, all home video releases will be released as scheduled and all pre-orders will be fulfilled.

As demonstrated by our record year of anime announcements, Crunchyroll is more committed than ever to bringing you the best and latest series from Japan, as well as expanding our catalog of classics. We've just launched a strong fall season -- with the likes of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and Sword Art Online Alicization -- and plan to bring much more anime to you in the future.

Thank you for your continued support. We're honored to be your favorite source for anime and will continue to do our best in delivering you your favorite series at the speed of Japan.

Sincerely,
The Crunchyroll Team"

I'm not dropping it yet, but it's clear the show needs some more crazy and funny ideas to not completely overstay its welcome. Next week seems to be an onsen episode already...

Maybe I'm too stupid to understand but I don't really get what's going on. Is this supposed to be some kind of supernatural phenomenon or just an obnoxious metaphor? I also dont understand how the MC fixed the issue in the end.

Speaking of the end, the last 5-6 minutes were pure cringe. I dont know if we were supposed to feel like that or if it was supposed to be romantic but man I got second hand embarrassment from watching that.

I wonder, if the Sony buyout has anything to do with this.
that is what seems to be implied by funi?

Anime distributor Funimation has ended its cross-licensing deal with Crunchyroll after two years, as Sony-owned Funimation looks to expand globally.

The decision to not renew the 2016 pact with Crunchyroll — now fully owned by AT&T after it acquired Chernin Group's stake in Otter Media — stems from Funimation's own acquisition by Sony Pictures Television a year ago.

Sony is making additional investments in the Funimation to make it "a global sub[titled] and dub anime brand," Gen Fukunaga, Funimation's president and CEO, wrote in an Oct. 18 internal memo obtained by Variety.

It's a supernatural phenomenon. You're supposed to suspend your disbelief and just roll with it.
He fixed it by forcing the whole student body to "observe" the existence that is Sakurajima Mai. For some reason this only worked if enough students heard the name or something.
The cringe is intentional, because a dude confessing his love loudly to the whole school is cringeworthy as hell and got everyone's attention. And it showed how far he was willing to go to save her.

I felt the same, I think it is supposed to be that due to other characters saying it so maybe they wanted that to happen.

Still, I am not sure about it.

Zombieland Saga
This episode wasn't as good as the other episodes due to how normal it is. Best parts was truck-kun lurking in the background like a shark and of course THE LEGENDENARY YAMADA TAE.

The preview for next episode looks bad due to that trend of hot spring episodes. I hope it is just some kind of a set up for a twist because this isn't what I really want from this anime. Give me other weird and uncommon music genres instead. Michael Jackson parody would be cool.

Gotcha. If it was intentional then they did a phenomenal job of making the viewer uncomfortable like Sakuta. I had to pause it a few times because I was getting really embarrassed lol.

Hopefully the show doesn't forget about Mai now that her arc seems to be over and Sakuta is moving onto other cases.

One of my main hopes for Zombieland is that they have a different genre of music for every episode. Dunno if it would happen but man that would be good.

Also dang at the crunchyroll and funimation partnership ending.

I don't have access to Funi in this region so the partnership ending sucks. For CR I can at least use a browser extension to give me a US session ID.

Last time I tried setting up a VPN for Funi it was pretty bad to watch anything without stuttering.

Zombie Land Saga - 03

See, the problem derived from shows parodying or having a subversive take on the "cute girls doing cute things" genre is that they always quickly become exactly what it is they were playing off of. And this episode is the tipping point into that inevitability.

What I need of this show is the absurdity it presented in its first episode. If we're not getting that, I at least need the "pay off performances" which will seemingly be the climax of most episodes to have the entertainment and surprise value of not knowing what they'll go for next, and looking good while doing it. The models and animation for episode 3's were so distractingly poor, and it also lacked any comedic/surprise factor to make it stand out, though I can give it the benefit of the doubt since it's really their first "idol" performance.

But if the show wants to tell a sincere story, I have absolutely no interest in a tale that revolves around "what it means to be an idol." I have no interest in forced drama with the two depressed idols. I'd be more interested in exploring the question of "what it means to be a zombie" if we had to go that route. Now it's going to become a show about aspiring idols living together, hastily rehearsing for concerts, and feel-good messages about learning to "live while dead."

The show's faltering because I don't think they really considered what would make it attractive outside of its out-there premise to draw attention to it initially. And, sadly, I don't think it'll recover. Screaming Manager's shtick got old pretty much at the end of this episode, and they clearly want it to be an element which carries the show forward. Same goes for Tae-chan, but her shenanigans have been demoted to background elements to avoid it wearing out.

Aside: Shouldn't people be recognizing these former dead idols and going "hey, it's that girl and she actually isn't dead." Not something I would have thought about before, but the more they try to take a serious route, the more those questions will come up and fall apart when they do (if they're not addressed).

Still hoping it will use a different genre of music everytime they sing, but this episode was always going to happen as it is one of the genre's they'd inevitably cover such a shame it came at episode 3 and not later because it can be a sign that it's going to be an idol show played straight now.

If nothing else, the show certainly still has a ton of heart. I hope they go meet Sister next week and Asta finally gives up on her, lol.

Eventually a Siscon show ep.2
I'm not saying this show is Bad, but yeah, it's pretty bad. I mean, the formula is old as $hit, it's not very funny and it doesn't stand out from anything else. In the end, the bad author bro will want to try and bang his good author imouto.

Senpai Bunny ep.3
Nightengale said it best above. This show does a great job of standing alone while taking concepts/inspiration from multiple shows. It has some heart, some comedy and is intelligent to watch without baseless fan service just because.

There isn't much that's less interesting than idol characters lamenting and then motivating themselves on repeat.

That being said, I'll honorably watch the OP once every Thursday!

Bloom into You - 2

Writing that title right now... oh, I get it. Yuu will bloom into loving Touko eventually. Kinda like that dynamic of these two and the directing remains fairly strong, doing a good job at portraying some of the awkwardness and hesitation.

Unfortunately, the surrounding plot seems otherwise simply uninteresting as there's a large focus on student president and student council activities which anime features too much of already. I'm also not exactly fond of the character designs, in particular their faces. That hurts when there's a lot of close-ups.

I'll keep going for now but it might not hold my attention for long.

So the people have turned on Zombieland Saga huh
The greatest trick the devil played was convincing people Zombieland wasn't an idol anime.

Y'know, despite the concept being an idol group being formed to save the region of Saga.

If you've watched idol anime, you realise they all come up with their own twists and gimmicks cos The iDOLM@STER pretty much took a firm grasp on "vanilla" idol show. Locodol = idols + regional mascots
Idol Incidents = idols + politics
Crane Game Girls = idols + how to win crane games
WUG Zoo = idol + perfection
Zombieland Saga = idols + zombies

Even Love Live, which many would likely see as "vanilla", has its own twist of being school based clubs removing any focus on the industry. The reality is, a lot of idol shows are off the wall silly, just like Zombieland, it's just no one ever gives them a chance.

For me, this looks like it'll be a great show, but I like idol shows, so it's my cup of tea.

I'm guessing that this is as good a time as any to shill Symphogear, the best idol anime ever.

It's got action, cool set pieces and, most importantly, absolutely banging music!

Come join in on the fun and catch up before the 5th season starts next year!

I mean, I don't think anyone had any doubts regarding that after first episode. But the concept was also - zombies. And how the mix of the two was going to work, to what degree the idol bit was gonna be taken seriously, the amount of comedy and zombie hijinks compared to the rest etc, was an open question that is only now being answered.

Another week passes, another bit of footage(?) of Sarazanmai gets released:
