If it's really part-time project that's fuck you to all Kickstarter backers: "As this goal has been met it's now certain that game will remain a full time project unitil completion".Game has been in development for a long time. Probably a part-time project for a lone developer, who doesn't have the time to finish it.

Hello!
My name is Tyrone Rodriguez. I'm with Nicalis, Inc. You may or may not have heard of Nicalis, but we've worked with other talented developers on games like Cave Story, VVVVVV, NightSky and 1001 Spikes.
We're working with Anthony on The '90s Arcade Racer. Our collaboration will allow him to realize his vision of the game and make sure that he has the necessary Unity programming and design help he needs so that he can concentrate on art and other aspects. On our end, we'll be working on the Unity programming, physics, tuning and general design and production of the game.
I grew up playing arcade games and the racing genre has always been one of my favorites. I worked for a now-dead magazine called Tips&Tricks when Sega was at the top of its game in terms of hardware and racing games; being part of a magazine where we were supposed to be pros at games, I ended up spending a lot of time playing Virtua Racing, Daytona, Super GT (Scud Race outside the US), Daytona 2 and basically every other Sega racer (even the weird ones like Moto Raider).
For anyone asking about the physics, both Anthony and I know what arcade racers should feel like. I also have experience with racing games and actual track experience; I worked on The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift (PS2, PSP), designing its drift physics. and have over 100 hours of real-world track time (open-wheel, street and race cars). Anthony and I won't stop until we get the tuning just right.
Oh, by the way, we'll be publishing the game on Wii U eShop, too.
Yeah, the same devs released The TakeOver on Steam and soon on Switch.I thought the guy sold everything to Nicalis? Isn't he already working on his next project, The Take Over or something?
I'm guessing Nicalis didn't understand what to do with it.

A few years ago it seemed like old school arcade racers were about to make a comeback through the indie scene. What happened? Did any of those come out? Did any of them turn out to be decent? Feels like all of them were left unfinished. Shame I was really looking forward to them.
Don't Kickstarter backers at least deserve an explanation though? It's easy to make a prototype, it's hard to make a finished product.
Let this be a lesson to only buy products and not ideas then.Don't Kickstarter backers at least deserve an explanation though?

Nah, I'm not saying they should get their money back or a finished product. That's part of the inherent risk of the platform and it's fine that way.

Slipstream came out and is excellent.A few years ago it seemed like old school arcade racers were about to make a comeback through the indie scene. What happened? Did any of those come out? Nicalis being a shitshow as usual. They've really pissed away the goodwill they originally got from officially localizing Cave Story. It's the main reason I'm avoiding them like the plague when it comes to publishing, indies should stay the hell away from them until they have provably cleaned up their act.
As I recall, it was only speculation that '90s Arcade Racer had been rebranded as something else and not actually news.
Probably the rebranding is linked to thisI suspect the game is stuck in some legal limbo since the original dev wanted to take the game back
Man, that would be scummy as all hell. Then again, there would probably be a legal battle over a move like that. But since it's one dude vs a company, the original dev might be better off cutting his losses. As for Nicalis, I can't possibly tell where they stand in all this. They're the ones who stand to gain from releasing the game.
I believe there's also Trailblazers coming out soon.Grip comes out November 6th for PC (out of Early Access) and consoles.
Wreckfest is already available for PC, 2019 for consoles. It's a good game.
Distance is out since September.
Horizon Chase Turbo is out and it's good.
The situation of 90s Arcade Racer is super frustrating, but other games are coming around fine.
