This is driving me nuts! It's been multiple consoles (regular and X), multiple controllers (regular and premium), and I even moved so my setup changed, BUT XBOX CONTROLLER KEEPS DISCONNECTING!!! And keep searching the web for answers and nothing so far. It could be WiFi interference, but what am I supposed to do?! Turn of WiFi in the house every time I play the game?! This is infuriating!

I felt that way about each version of the XB1. Thankfully the issue happens less frequently with each iteration. I would just prefer they used BT as opposed to wifi direct going forward but they won't

I have had 5 Xbox ones since release and never had this issue . Maybe your controller is faulty?

Is this a common issue ?

Try switching the wifi channel on your router.

I have 3 Xbox ones .. og, s, and x and I haven't had the issue ever. I think it is some form of interference.

I have this issue with the pack in controller that came with my X1X. And I sit less than 5 feet from the console. No issue with a white replacement controller I'm using now.

I've had a few Xbox One's and haven't experienced this either. First time I've even heard about it. Have no answers.

None here either. Elite, 1st generation X, and batteries. Never any rogue disconnects.

Not sure if this can help OP, but...

- Microwaves, when turned on, run at 2.4GHz. So its possible it could interfere.

- If you have a 2.4/5GHz router I would try turning off the 2.4GHz channel for awhile just to confirm if the router itself is the issue. In theory you could move some devices to 5GHz for convenience. I mean, if all of your consoles have the same problem that definitely suggests the Wireless router is involved in the problem somehow.

- The previous thread on this subject suggested a fix for some by physically moving the router farther away from the XBox. Another suggested changing the channel used on the 2.4GHz frequency, provided you can access your router dashboard.

It's weird that I've never had this issue... In both my houses I've had the Xbox One sitting directly next to and under the router.

It's relatively common issue. It's some sort of WiFi interference. It's effing infuriating! I haven't had a single controller disconnect on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Switch EVER! And it happened about 20 times in the past 2 hours on Xbox X!!! I have two controllers, it's happening on both. In fact it's been happening on 4 controllers that I ever owned, and 2 consoles. NO IDEA WHAT TO DO!

I had issues with my Xbox controller when my laptop was connected to WiFi. It is probably that. If your console/controller is near the router, you might have some interference. They'll never fix it for One. Maybe Scarlett.

I've had my controller unsync on my X1X randomly and it is frustrating. The sync button doesn't work but if I do a hard restart with a usb cable connected and then attach the controller when the green screen kicks in it usually syncs up.

Using the power button to turn of my system instead of doing it via the controller usually unsyncs it.

Never had this issue with any console but Xbox One. In fact if you search the web it seems like Xbox One is THE console where it happens. I think they even issued a patch to "fix" it at some point.

4 feet, so what? Other consoles have been fine forever.
There's your problem. PS4 uses Bluetooth, Microsoft uses a proprietary 2.4GHz solution, which runs on the same range as WiFi. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, one of the disadvantages of Microsoft's wireless solution is interference from other devices that run on the same spectrum, such as microwaves and - in your case, a wireless router.

I believe Bluetooth, while less prone to interference, has higher input latency. I could be wrong though.

Edit: Whoops, Bluetooth occupies the same 2.4GHz range. So they're likely to be prone to the same issues, but they are different protocols and thus still prone to variences.

I had a launch xbone, an elite, an S and now an X, with innumerable controllers and never had this issue.

I remember some complains during launch but never had an idea it was still a thing.

Are all your controllers updated?

What are advantages? Am I supposed to rewire my whole house? This is insane. And in my old apartment the rounter was like a foot away. Happened WAAAAAY less.

Xbox One controllers are super buggy. I'm always surprised more people don't complain. I had to trade controllers with a friend because his brand new Xbox One S came with a controller that wouldn't sync with his console, even when connected directly via USB. It would connect to mine though. So we just traded, I get new controllers all the time so it's not like mine was that used/old. We tested it out on a friends OG xbox one and a friends new Xbox One X, no issue on those, but still wouldn't connect on their S. Mine was an S, btw.

Isn't this caused by WiFi interference? Could be wrong but I remember people having this issue before and this was the culprit

Hmmm
I've had my xbox for 4 years now and never had this issue. I've also used 4 controllers and their work fine.

I've had two fat xbox one's and an xbox one x. Not once have I had disconnect issues.

It's probably an interference issue.

I used to have this issue but now I don't anymore. I wish I could pinpoint when it got fixed and what changed.

But I went from a Day zone edition to an X. And I changed my controller. I've changed my WiFi router. Tons of other stuff too. Too hard to figure out what it is.

Wait holy shit I thought all of my controllers were just messed up... what exactly happens to you? For me mine say controller disconnected, but the light on the controller will stay on and none of the buttons work. The only thing to do is remove a battery to force it off then turn it back on....

I've noticed that issue recently with my brand new grey/blue one & it's proving really annoying because it kicks me back to the main menu whenever the controller randomly disconnects >_<

edit: I have the Xbox One X for reference

I used to have the controller disconnecting issue until I got a new controller with bluetooth, haven't had a single disconnect since. Also I turned my xbox one around so the back is facing towards my controller.

Wait, is this a common issue? I'm having an issue similar to this :(.

My Xbox One Controller doesn't get picked up by my Xbox unless I plug it in, and even then sometimes it disconnects when I take the wire out :(. Maybe its faulty? idk.

My first Xbox One had this issue, after I upgraded to the Xbox One S I never had a problem since. It's possible it might be a hardware issue.

Hold the Xbox button down till it turns off then hit it again to turn on. I live not far from a big nation guard armory and they even garbled my mic when I podcast and occasionally disconnect my controller or even my Xbox from my router. It cost me 30k Souls on ds3 one morning

Do you own this? This was the problem for me. If not this, perhaps a similar headset that uses wireless.

Wow that may make sense as I live in Southern California near a lot of military bases!

I have this issue happen almost daily. It's crazy because I never have this issue with my PS4 controller.

I'm assuming it's because I live in an apt building and there's lots of interference but it's still frustrating.

My cellphone was triggering it at one point, I'm sure exactly what but whenever I'd use my cellphone for a bit and then turn the screen off; the moment I'd turn the screen off I'd get that "controller disconeccted" alert, but I guess it triggered so fast that the controller didn't actually disconnect. This only lasted month or so.

Used to have this issue, and it drove me crazy. I haven't had it in years though. Seems like it was interference mixed with first gen X1 controllers.

Hopefully you can find the cause and get it to stop, OP

I've had it on each of my Xbox 1's. Maybe it's my A50s, maybe it's my router. I don't know, I don't care, the input of a computer should have NO PROBLEMS WHATSO EVER. If I don't have a USB wire for my controller, my system would be a brick. No other system with wireless controllers has this issue.

There are things you can do that don't involve turning your wifi off. Some of these may not apply depending on your setup.

- Console or where you sit to play should not be very close to your wifi router.
- other wifi devices (like other consoles or phones) shouldn't be placed right next to your console or controller
- console shouldn't be set right on a floor, especially concrete
- change target channel of your wifi router's 2.4Ghz band and try various options until you find one that interferes less
- disconnect wireless headphones, which often operate on the same wireless band
- Noisy AC mains can be a problem. Can be fixed with a filter on the outlet, or having an electrician help track down and resolve the source of the noise.

This can also be caused by a faulty console wireless board or faulty controller. I had really regular disconnects on my day one X1 starting about 2 years after launch. I bought a salvaged replacement for like $5, swapped it in and haven't had a problem since. Sounds like you've tried enough devices that it isn't that, though.

4 feet, so what? Other consoles have been fine forever.

Kind of a dickish response when some are trying to help you.

For the record, we have had about 5 Xbox One, S, X's in our house and never had this issue. Hope you figure it out, but don't be such an ass and respond with the "4 feet, so what?". Kind of makes people not want to help you.
