Is this dude really trying to act like anime was some underground thing? lol

Normies used to make fun of otakus all the time

Pretty much what Puck Beaverton said, let's not get it twisted and act like anime was always treated like the coolest thing. 90s and 00s anime pretty much stayed underground or unknown unless it was on Toonami. Even then, people considered Naruto fans to be otaku nerds and didn't want to associate with them. This is the era were being nerdy and weird is considered cool and being a 'regular' person is boring, and it's represented all the way to rappers, businessmen, and athletes now.

Which is weird, because atleast from what I remember anime was more normal in the 90s now there is way too much creepy shit

Also Make Patlabor real, best mecha designs IMO

Isn't Your Name super mainstream?

Edit: to clarify, I mean like Ghibli-style mainstream. Many non-anime fans would've also seen and loved it.

Can you imagine a future where we actually have mechas transporting stuff around to build bases on Mars.

edit: Obligatory Bill Burr watches One Punch Man

Your Name was the film that convinced me that anime is cheesy, nonsensical garbage and Miyazaki is an outlier. It's considered to be one of the better examples of mainstream anime too

RY-DOG uses an overhyped movie to PROVE ALL ANIME is SHIT, DESTROYS all 55 years of anime HISTORY with LOGIC and FACTS (2018) (REKT COMPILATION)

Luckily he named some great anime.

Unless he knows enough to name drop respectable anime so his interest doesn't seem weird. Uh-oh!
