By the way, "important" does not mean "successful" (Paris Hilton was successful, she was never important). Starbucks (Forbes 500 top 20) is one of the most successful companies...but its importance...well I'll let the coffee fanatics argue that one. So a company that creates some insanely amazing piece of biotechnology but is virtually unknown (do you think the average person gives a shit about Biotechnology?) is probably a better answer than Starbucks.

Scottsdale....we are the home of Fender, who supply Strats to 99 percent of musicians, so that's pretty damn cool. We also have a Mayo Clinic branch, so that's good. Also, Discount Tire Company, who have been always there when I need to take care of my tires....which I take very seriously because good tires are insanely important. My friend died due to a tire blowout.

Gibson Guitar.
Bell's Brewery.
Stryker.
Pfizer.

Kalamazoo, Michigan.

It's funny OP, you have Fender from Scottsdale. And Kzoo is the original home to Gibson.

Gibson moved to Nashville...yuck.

Oh well, it was your company first. But yeah, I love telling people Scottsdale is the home of Fender.

I live just outside the city containing the Canadian half of NORAD. In the mountains nearby is our version of Cheyenne Mountain. I suspect that to this day there are still quite a number of old Russian ICBMs pointed at us.

The local pizza shop? I currently live in the middle of nowhere ville, but I am moving to Copenhagen soon. So for the sake of the argument and the thread, it would be Novo Nordisk (one of the biggest medicine suppliers in the world), Maersk (one of the biggest shipping companies), Danske Bank, and a bit more relatable, Unity (That game engine).

Marconi, they basically invented radio and they set up a factory in my hometown in the early 1900's. The company is still going but it's moved on with the times.

Nokia used to be big before Microsoft came in and totally fucked over everyone.

Edit: well, they are still important to the local economy but nowhere near their peak.

ESTEC (European Space Research and Technology Centre)

It's the largest site of ESA (European Space Agency), which is pretty cool considering it's a relatively small town I live in (approx. 26k inhabitants)

Larian. There not a big company in the schemes of things, but for the Belgian gaming industry they are immensly important and impactful, as they proved you can make AAA-games here.

I'm in Comcast Country. Yay me.

EDIT: Also Campbell's Soup, though that's more across the river? Also media-related we have Entercom (2nd largest radio owner) though that's not as much of a "name".

The recent most important Software things from Berlin are Delivery Hero, Babble, Here Maps, Telegram, the Clue App, ResearchGate and SoundCloud.
There are no real big companies anymore in Berlin though. Even though there are some worldleading OEMs like Berliner Glas or Biotronik or pretty big Research Campuses like the Charité oder Bayer Schering.

I'm in Wellington, New Zealand, so I guess in terms of things that have had some sort of international impact there would be...

Weta Digital (CG house that worked on LOTR)
Weta Workshop (physical props/FX house that worked on LOTR)
Wingnut Films (Peter Jackson film production vehicle)
Xero (accounting software)
Flight of the Conchords
Allbirds (shoe company) - I think they started here but are now headquartered out of SF, US
