I think it would just be a character announcement. Otherwise it would be weird to have the same demo with the same content and isn't even presented in a new way (still requires commentary so we won't be able to just hear the game) and do that out of the blue. Plus that Montreal bar thing. They'll probably have the character trailer to get some attention and have the videos to further capitalize on the renewed interest in the game.

You know what I noticed? Some people don't refill their ink even when it's the best possible time to do so.

I noticed that as well. Some of the matches were pretty recent so I was pretty surprised to see it. I guess they might not have known but I dunno.

I saw someone making good use of bombs tho. Those specials all have some really good synergy from what I can tell, so I wanna see someone go all out with them.

If there was a new character at that event, I'm sure someone would have leaked or alluded to it by now

Chances are we'll just get a much more unrestricted look at things like characters, stages, music, and maybe even see some Final Smashes we didn't know about already. If it's just the E3 demo again I'll be kinda disappointed.

Though the marketing is definitely ramping up - I got my first YouTube ad for the game just now.

I think that's reading too much into it. This could be anything from nothing (per usual) to a smaller reveal to the last info blowout before release.

I think I heard that you lose the refilled Ink if you get hit during it. Kind of like Cloud's Limit now. Then again it is a little dumb considering how reliant Inkling is on Ink compared to Cloud

The thing is, they aren't promoting this event for the world to see. They're doing it for their own Smash community that frequents the place and plays tourneys there. I think a lot of people on various forums picked up on it unintentionally.

I don't think it would be an info blowout as why would they do a demo event right before a big blowout and it being restricted? The idea that there is an announcement soon to begin with is contentious but if there was I would say it's a character announcement.

I never said a Smash Direct was coming this week. Simply said that media are getting time with the game and new footage, previews, and video coverage will be coming out.

The videos will be dropping around the time an announcement happens so people who jump on the Smash hype again will be able to entertain themselves before a potential direct.

For people saying the demo event will give us a new perspective on the demo.

They're still required to do commentary so no appreciating the music for us

They're playing the same roster which has been covered extensively

They're playing the same stages as confirmed by the D1 Twitter post

There's really nothing new they can do with the demo. Not that I'm saying there will be an announcement but it would make sense to do this if they had something to get people's attention on Ultimate again.

Going off the stage select screen it seemed to be the E3 demo.
I doubt we ever see another build in the wild outside of an official eShop demo/test smash

But it's not for breaking news. It's being done for media coverage. Just to keep the game in peoples eyes as a form of advertising.

Terrible 4chan "leak" incoming:

Man, what the fuck is even going on with the perspective here?
I'm coming up with a blank as to what is supposed to be different between VS Mode and Boss Rush

Also, no way Adventure mode is not two-player at least

God like what is it with the marketing for this game being so baffling and lame for the past few months? Like they said they went overboard on reveals but I refuse to believe they didn't do the August Smash Direct knowing that they were showing too much to the point that they had to take a massive cooldown for the next few months.

There's only 50 days. Left and review copies will go out weeks in advance
They won't go out too far in advance. Smash Direct can be any time between now and about November 21 as they'll proabably want it out before Thanksgiving and that would give reviewers about 2 weeks with the game, which seems fine for review

Not all media can attend E3 and these events also have other known Nintendo holiday titles like Diablo 3 & Let's Go. Even if the same stages/characters are shown, people still crave Smash Bros. anything.

Oh it's one of those events with multiple games.
Well we are talking about it and more casual people, and likely many us, will be happy to see more footage. So that's not pointless at all.

I'm not watching it. I can't even recall the last time I've watched Smash footage. I only watch when it's brand new. People will watch based off it being the big holiday title and it's Smash of course.

Me!!!

I will be pouring over any and all new footage that's for darn sure

Come on it's the same build they've showed at E3. I don't think people not in the know would be that much more interested in seeing footage from the same version of the game that's been available for 4 months.

I am :<

Well there is very few Direct feed footage that isn't from streams but man can't they at least allow them to put up the videos without commentary? Why can't they let them do that?

I believe we will start seeing that next week.

In fact , here's how I suspect our remaining month and half will go. This week a lot of people have been getting direct feed footage and more hands on. There's some sort of embargo in place as evidence of the title theme being the only thing to get uploaded. So next week is when everyone who's attended these events gets to start uploading the goods. Then, sometime around Nov 1st, Nintendo announces the final Smash Direct which will be on Nov 7th. All is revealed game goes gold. Reviewers get sent copies that week or the following week. Then we get our beloved Ultimate Smash.

You guys have to stop thinking that everyone is up to speed like we are.

If Nintendo is pushing out new coverage through the media, I think that's a stopgap to keep Smash in the news this month. Ie, no direct/announcement until next month.

Not sure if this was noted anywhere, but to add fuel to the fire of a possible direct Thursday- I saw on Reddit that the first Smash amiibo restocks have been found and have a street date for Friday.

So a direct could include details of amiibo waves and any exclusives, but so could a social media post.

I'd agree if there was some kind of new info but it isn't.
It's info other media outlets never got though. Now they can all get to play the E3 demo and be caught up to speed. They can all show some little stuff here and there that wasn't allowed from before. Now that Nintendo will be done milking the same old E3 demo they can move on to new Smash info for November.

Nate straight up said that they have to commentate over the footage which is why this event is so disappointing because we won't even have that.

What about the clean rip of the Title Theme? Some Nintendo rep allowed that at one of these events. There's been a lot of hands on this week.

What is this stuff not allowed to be shown before? Are you talking about the menu music? Because right now that is just assumptions, and if it was recorded at one of these events, they'd be required to add voiceover to it.

I mean at best they allow the media to have 20 minute videos showing multiple matches so we can still hear the menu theme but it would still have to be commentated.

I wish I was still in touch with an acquaintance who I know went to one of these but I haven't spoke to them in over a year haha. He'd be able to let me know what was allowed at least.
