Overall impressed with the Switch version of Battle Chasers Nightwar . Some of the loading times are annoying, but they were as well on PS4 Pro. Game looks good though and plays well in portable .

Downloading Valkyria now. Got convinced by VC4's demo, and even though they are independent stories, I wanted to start from the first one also to experience the gameplay improvements.

And the price lol.

You picked the right game - definitely let us know how it goes! (I'm tempted to make a mini OT should I get the time...)

Played through VC1 twice and I'm still tempted to get the Switch port since I won't be getting VC4 until the holidays.

I remember there being some kind of promo that if you have VC4 on the Switch (digitally I assume), you get a discount on VC1. Now, anyone knows if I redeem the physical copy on My Nintendo account if that same deal will apply?

Edit: Forget it, just read that the promo is for digital owners.

Played the SMSPower translation of Phantasy Star a couple years ago and it still holds up really well as long as you have some tolerance for older games! Gonna miss the FM Synth music though, wondering if there's any way M2 would include that as an option? Definitely wouldn't put it past them. I found it to be less grindy than a lot of contemporary RPGs, though I'd still reccomend a guide because there are a lot of obscure fetch quests that give you little direction, and the world is really big.

Completely forgot this game existed, checked ebay thinking maybe it'd be fun to try out but it's $80.. Guessing the eshop version is still $60 or something.
the eShop version got reduced to 30 after less than a year.

Game getting a global permanent price drop on the eShop on June 24, 2016:
Japan: from 7 236 Yen to 3 618 Yen
Europe: from €59.99 / £49.99 to €29.99 / £24.99
North America: $59.99 to $29.99

Does it render at native resolution when playing on the gamepad? The demo for VC4 looked and ran so great in portable mode it's what sold me on getting the Switch version when I was originally planning on buying it on PS4. I'm really hoping VC1 runs just as well.

I grew up an SNES kid, but often eyed the Sonic games because they looked so impressive. I had the chance to rent a Genesis once, and I had a total blast playing the original Sonic for the few short days I had it (I also played Phantasy Star II and something to do with Mickey and a magical castle - in my mind this is a beautifully animated 16-bit masterpiece, but uh... that was a long time ago).

Which all leads to my question: how essential is Sonic Mania for someone who has only played a portion of the first game? It looks like so much fun, but I am hungry for so many games right now, including Risk of Rain and Wasteland 2.

Anyone want to talk about how much they love or hate the Sonic games available on Switch?

If anything, the fact you ONLY played part of the first game will make Mania much more fresh for you, considering 8/12 zones are from previous Sonic games (1, 2, 3 & Knuckles, and CD) & only Green Hill Zone is from Sonic 1. It's basically a Greatest Hits + 4 brand new zones and shows just how well the classic formula still works after all these years.

I would argue if you ever wanted to get into classic Sonic, Mania is absolutely the place to start.

The 16 bit Sonic games are generally really good games. I haven't played Sonic Mania yet, but if die hard Sonic fans are saying it is good, it has to be a good game.

Having said that, I quoted you to warn you about Wasteland 2. I do believe it is a fun game to play and I do generally enjoy it, that game has so many bugs and the game crash like crazy. If you were to buy the game, save often. I mean like before you go into a new area and then after. Also, save after long dialogue scenes. Otherwise, you will be frustrated the whole time.

For those talking about Valkyria Chronicles 4: I got it a couple days ago and already put close to 6 hours in it. It is a great game, and runs well on the Switch with just a few little visual compromises (I really don't like the rain, but it's a minor nitpick and I haven't seen the other weather effects yet). Absolutely recommended.

The pacing is a bit weird because there are often story scenes one after the other instead of story-battle-story and so on. I've been totally addicted to it though.

Anyone playing LEGO Super Villains on Switch? How's the performance? It's the same game as on other platforms, yeah?

Dark1x, I suppose the chances fo you guys taking a look at this game are next to none, yeah?

Loving VC1. I played two back on PSP, so I'm absolutely digging this version. Somehow missed it on PS3 and was always too busy with other stuff to try it later.

Ninjin: Clash of Carrots is one of the few indie games on Switch that is considerably more expensive on the Mexican eShop than the American.

Usually the price variance is within $2, plus or minus.

Ninjin is $14.99 USD. In Mexico Ninjin is 399.99, which is $21.14 USD.

Usually the only people who get flak for taking advantage of regional pricing Americans. I wouldn't fault anyone for grabbing the US version of Ninjin while it's on sale for $11.

Thanks for bringing this up. I tried the demo and really liked it. Probably going to buy.

So it actually was considered a good game? :D
I'm really looking forward too it. I'm very sure that it will evoke nostalgic feelings, I'm just not certein if they're gonna be of the good or bad kind, lol. Either way, this game and I have a score to settle. Just this once I managed to get to a castle level which felt so close to the end game. Some crazy mage boss got the better of me back then. Not this time.

Yeah, Alex Kidd in Miracle World is considered a Master System classic. It was hugely popular here in Brazil, all of my friends loved it.

Just bear in mind it's leagues behind Mario games when it comes to controls. It's colorful, it's pretty and it's a quality take on the platforming genre filled with weird ideas (such as the "peticopter" vehicle and the infuriating jankenpo bosses), but it's not polished like Mario games. That said, I think being different and a bit wonky is exactly what makes it great.

It is a hard game, and the imprecise controls are a part of it, but I think it's worth it for all the weirdness, the art and the music.

So, how good is this version of VC1?

Is it just a port of the PS3 version or offers more?

I think it is just the last gen version but does include the DLC. $20 was cheap enough for me to grab it . Plus I saved a few bucks with coins I had . Love having it on portable even though it isn't the remastered version . It looked good on PS3 to me .

It has options for FM Synth music and PSG music.

It also has a complete beastiary, a list of all items/weapons etc, an "easy mode" and, best of all, auto-mapping for the 3D dungeons.

So is it correct that some games appear on the eShop just on their release day?

No need to worry about Yomawari then, which hasn't shown up anywhere on Nintendo's official sites in Europe, despite releasing next week?

Game of the Day

1.flinthookywr82.jpg

HOOK INTO ACTION! SHOOT, LOOT AND PLUNDER!

Live the life of space captain Flinthook! Armed with your mighty hookshot, your uncanny slow-motion powers and your trusty blasma pistol, plunder and fight your way through an infinite variety of randomly-assembled spaceships for treasure, loot and fame!

Flinthook is a fast action-platformer with "roguelike" elements. Become space's greatest pirate with your hookshot, pistol and slowmo powers!

Zip around with your mighty hookshot! Aim freely and toss your giant anchor at golden rings to propel yourself around the levels at high speeds, giving you the agility and swiftness needed to dodge hazards and enemy bullets.

Shoot in 360° through your Blasma Pistol! Take down all sorts of enemies with fresh hot bullets!

Look really cool with slow-motion powers! Your Chrono Belt slows down time to adjust your aim or pull off a tight stunt - it recharges real quickly so you can use it often and look at least 200% cooler.

Blast through randomly-assembled pirate spaceships! Each level is special, as ships are procedurally built from hundreds of hand-crafted rooms, modified by various variants, filled with extraordinary treasure and populated by random waves of enemies.

Hunt down the pirate bosses of the Cluster Clan! Feed your compass creature to pinpoint the bosses' location, then take them down and bring your bounty home. Your rivals are no space chumps, make sure you're ready for the challenge!

Collect rare relics and powerful perk cards! All the treasure you loot builds up your legend - unlock new equippable perks as you level up, buy permanent upgrades in the Black Market, and hoard collectible relics and lore pages!

Who will be the best pirate today? Compete for the best score and time in the daily & weekly challenges!

Uncover some mysterious secrets?! I don't know, are there secrets in this game? O_O

Enjoying Chasm and VC1. Chasm has a strange new school/old school charm and simplicity I have been finding appealing. VC1 is unique and very pleasant. Have been looking for more strategy games on Switch after finishing Into The Breach/Bad North/Rabbids/Steamworld Heist. VC1 will probably start to dominate my playtime, then will finally move on to VC4 :D

I just finished Flipping Death and it was a delight from start to finish. Even better than Stick it to the Man, which blew me away when it was added to PS+. I'm sure it'll be included in some eShop Halloween sale, but it's easily worth $20. I'll be revisiting each chapter to collect all the Ghost Cards, and I'm redownloading SITTM for a replay. Amazing work by Zoink and Ryan North!

Thank you! I have been traveling for the past 3 months and completely forgot about flipping death! Stick it to the man was one of my favourite PS4 games. How long did it take you to complete?

If you like platformers, Celeste offers a ton of replay value in terms of collecting hidden items (which often involve tests of platforming skill) and unlocking additional levels. It's also pretty tough.

If you liked the first Sonic, you'll probably really enjoy Sonic Mania - it's basically the OG Sonic formula refined for today. If you're not a fan of the way the original Sonic Genesis games play, which I found out too late applies to me, you won't enjoy Sonic Mania.

About 6-8 hours, doing most of the optional chapter challenges, and it's immediately charming. I'm blown away with how well this team builds a large cast of bizarre characters who you actually care about saving by the end of the game. And even though Penny, the protagonist, is meant to be the "straight" character, she still has a ton of personality. Despite the deliberate ramshackle feel of the world and platforming elements (all the scenery is built from "cardboard", with the spirit world on the "flip" side) it all feels like a refined iteration of their work in "Stick...", and whatever they make next will be an instabuy for me on good faith alone :)

Thanks for the replies all. RE: Wasteland 2, I am constantly on the fence about it. After I finish Dragonfall and Steamworld Dig 2, I'm going to want something I can play in healthy chunks that is more than just a shooter (because the last few games I've purchased on Switch have all been shooters), but I can't decide between Wasteland, Valkyria Chronicles 1, Mario + Rabbids, and Dragon Quest Builders. SO many options right now, it's almost paralyzing.

I've only played on Switch, but it's been super smooth to me. I've mostly played undocked. The only factor I'd also mention is that the joycon dpad sometimes leads to unintended directional inputs for me. Haven't experienced any input lag issues though.

I've loved my 45+ hours with the game and I'm still yet to 100% it.

Edit: meant to say Joy-Con stick not d-pad. I occasionally switched to the d-pad due to repeated input failures with the stick (which may have been entirely my fault anyway). Sorry for the brain fart.

Compared the visuals of Valkyria Chronicles for Switch to the PS4 & PS3 version. Looks to be 30fps on Switch but visually pretty much identical to the PS4.

Did you read Team Cherry's response/explanation in that thread? If that response still makes you have concern, Celeste isn't built on Unity, so I don't see how the comparison between the 2 games would be relevant.

That is unacceptable, sounds like a broken release. Have they said anything about incoming patches to fix the game?

You aren't kidding me, right? I was already wondering why I would want to collect the rest of the achievements, other for completionist reasons.
Btw I did my part and suggested the counter-operative mode over at the Subset Games board =)
No shame in using save states! And knowing M2 they might throw in an easier bonus mode à la "Kids Mode" from Thunder Force IV, which was a very welcome addition considering how difficult that game was. lol
Thank you for your sympathy, but I will have to beat this fucker faire and square! :D It's the only way to end the curse once and for all.

Oh wow, these screens instantly elicit a feeling of unease and horror, lol. I'm not kidding. Yeah I have pretty clear memories about it, that's why I won't expect it to be a Mario and am instead wondering if it's even been considered any good :)
Thanks for sharing!

Unexplored. Unexplored and Into the Breach are the best roguelites on the platform in my opinion.
Another user had very bad things to say about the performance and playability on Switch some days a ago, when I had already bought it for the 33% off. Can you share some impressions, too? (hopefully of the better kind? :D)
Haven't gotten around to playing it myself yet.

Some tempting new discounts showing up on the European store today - 50% discount on Cave Story+, Ittle Dew 2 and The Binding of Isaac; 33% on Ikaruga.
I woke up to those Nintypricer emails, notifying me of the Nicalis sale finally arriving in EU, too. Yay! Finally time to grad one of my must-haves for the Switch (Isaac). Also, The End is Nigh gets a lot of praise, right? It's 5 bucks at -66%, too.
(These delayed sales in other regions are creating such a deja-vue in these threads, lol)

Any thoughts on NBA2K19? Pretty tempting for 40 usd..
Haven't played 2K19, but if it's anything like 2K18 it's a solid game. You get all the modes and presentations and goodies at the cost of 30 FPS, which I thought was a fair trade off. Some people really hate the microtransactions, but I played primarily one-off exhibition games for fun so it never bothered me.

I'm not sure anymore, do I still receive gold points for an eShop purchase when I (partly) use gold coins to pay for said game? How does it work?
