Unless another Obama(unknown and young) pops out of nowhere, dems are screwed with their current lineup.

I really don't care how old they are as long as they still have all their mental faculties and are in good health (within reason of course. I wouldn't want a 98 year old to be president).

I think many don't due to not having been politicians for very long. Obama was an exception.

I'd love to see AOC run once she gets old enough. Assuming she does well in the House.

After over 3 terms in office, passing some of the most significant legislation in this country's history, and leading us through a huge chunk of WW2 and the great depression.

Which is besides the point. FDR got elected at about 50, and despite his wealth and competency still died at 63 in office.

A 50 year old with a disease is one thing. That may be manageable. But even FDR great as he was would not have been a good choice to elect at 60 or 70 because death would have been immediate.

Some of the people being discussed (Sanders) would be nearly EIGHTY.

This is too old. Call it ageist if you want, but there are some occupations where it is perfectly legal to mandate retirement due to age because of the rigors of the job, and President is one of the most difficult and stressful jobs there is.

I feel like if it's okay to put a minimum age on when you can be president we should also put a maximum age on when you can't be president

Excuses. Saying somebody shouldn't do something because they're too old. Ageism, no?

Also every person is different. There's also a reason we have Vice Presidents
Not explicitly no. When it is an extremely strenuous activity you need to take in to account additional factors. I do agree every person is different which is why I said it shouldn't be banned.

I understand people preferring a younger candidate.

I don't understand people refusing to vote for someone, from this single metric. That makes no sense to me.

I really don't have an issue. Only one time I somewhat had an issue with someone's old age. That was McCain and because of who he picked as his VP.

If you are pushing 80, neither of those can really be taken for granted over 8 years, which I think is the concern. Even late 60s is a huge difference.

Speaking from experience, I got to see two grandparents go from what appeared to be "perfectly fine" to rapid cognitive decline in their 70s within a matter of 1-2 years.

When that hits, it hits FAST and I'd rather not have another Trump or Reagan in office with spells of not knowing where they are or what they're doing from day to day.

There's no shame in admitting that age related decline exists and is a real factor to consider. I'm not saying impose a ban, but anyone over 75 will not be getting a vote from me, and even 70 means serious consideration

People suggest those picks because their politician Brands, younger picks would be politicians with little to no brand power and/or experience.

And i think we can all agree that Trump proved brand power is a huge factor.

if Biden goes in for 1 term just to beat Trump, I would be okay with that.

yeah, it sucks to have 70 year old run the show instead of enjoying retirement.

But IMO 2020 is more about beating Trump then electing an ideal President

Yup. Not that this really matters for 2020, when the alternative is Trump.

Older millenials will be eligible to run in 2020 and we still haven't even had a Gen x president (Obama was close - but still a late Boomer.)

And today I learned that Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died on the same day... weird.

It was also the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The oldest millennials might have been eligible to be president last time. But I am not sure when you have to be 35 by to qualify. And I guess it depends on the definition of millennial, since that start date moves around the early 80s some.

I'd prefer someone younger (50's ideally) , but at this point, I don't care who is in the position so long as their last name isn't Trump and they have a D beside their name.

The retirement age the government has settled on for the people should also be enforced on those that hold public office. There's legitimate concerns about pensioners driving ability yet for some reason they end up in high office regularly. 35-60 would be the sweet spot for me.

In the U.K, the House of Lords should be disbanded and replaced by a democratic system with term limits. I'd allow pensioners to be involved with that due to the term limits and the need for a cross section of society to be involved in any laws it would pass.

Who cares what age? I would be fine with a 30 year old leader the same way as a 70 year old leader. If they have great ideas, the initiative and ambition to implement those ideas, and the charisma to get everyone on board with those ideas - then who cares their age?

Just make sure they have a good Vice President incase they die.

Elizabeth Warren is about my upper limit personally. If she doesn't run/get elected in 2020 then I don't really see it for a 2024-2032 tenure.

But yeah, Warren is my #1 choice today despite her advanced age.

Trump's already the oldest person ever elected to a first term, so... who gives a shit? Hand-wringing over Biden's or Warren's age when Trump's old as fuck, morbidly obese, and subsists on a diet of pure trash seems pretty silly.

We're living longer, so you'd better get used to it.

Old people do. Old people that are stupid or can't consider the greater good(Republican voters in general) probably don't want some young guy with fresh ideas telling them what to do.

I think Sanders would be my only exception to wanting younger candidates because his policies were pretty unique and appealing among other candidates who might get as far as he did.

Honestly, no. I like Warren, but I wish this were not the standard, for so many reasons. Obviously with age comes experience in a lot of cases, but I think right now the American political system is in dire need of new blood.
