First Man deserved a better debut week, such a great film. I look forward to gifting blu-ray copies when it comes out.

I'm calling it now, Aquaman's OW will be below Venom

Not a bold prediction. It probably will considering when it's opening and what it's opening against. But it's got the holidays working for it in the long run.

Ignoring that Jumanji 2 opened after Star Wars TLJ, on the same date, it had a $35M or so OW and went on to do over $400M domestic.

Venom was really bad, but I'm glad it's making bank as this means I get to see some of my favorite characters on screen. I hope they bring some other Spider-verse Spidey to fight all these cool characters.

I had Venom pegged for 70-80m. It's way too early, but I think we'll see Spider-verse open in the 40-60 range. It should do quite well for itself given its likely budget, and I bet a sequel (with Tom Hardy voicing Venom) is a virtual lock.

They might even go nuts and have a live action miles morales pop up in another Sony verse film (Venom 2? Kraven? Silk?) as a tease leading into Spider-verse 2.

and I can't wait for Men In Black Chris Hemsworth to be told that he has to track down a rogue alien symbiote operating out of San Fransisco

There's a distinct chance Aquaman comes out not looking all that great. Maybe it'll earn a mild, if not small profit when all said and done. I say this knowing the production budget is around $160m, but I'm not confident it's breaking $500m worldwide.

The director is solid, but it's repping one of the worst parts of the DCEU. The most quintessentially DCEU character really. I mean does anyone really care about grung Aquaman? The 'big' trailer that we just got looks... like a worse retread of Black Panther mixed with some Man of Steel without interesting characters.

Venom success is very amusing considering like a few years Sony themselves barely wanted to make this movie, according to the leaked emails. iirc Sinister Six was def more of a priority and meanwhile this project was just sorta there in the background and some of the execs admitted "do we really need to make this?" and even talked mad shit about how annoying Avi Arad was getting cause he was always begging about when they gonna make it

BUT GUESS WHO HAD THE RIGHT INTUITION ALL ALONG THE KIDS LOVE VENOM BRO

Damn shame about El Royale. Movie is a good time and the performances are fantastic. It's also a shame that First Man didn't do better as I thought that was a seller movie too.

I did like Venom though and am happy with it's surprisingly strong hold. Not a great movie by any stretch but it was a fun time and was also pretty funny.

Pretty sharp Monday drop for Venom compared to last week though, it was coming off a holiday.

Maximum Carnage will be coming for that crown though

Kids love Carnage.

Given the way that Amy Pascal is talking you might damn well expect that Venom 2 will be Venom and Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage.

Noooooo we don't really need Spider-Man in this Venom universe (omg I can't believe I'm actually saying that), I would prefer the movie be 100% about this Venom and Carnage.

Pascal? Arad has ALWAYS been the main producer on Venom, not her. Her name is on it, but outside of the little bit she said during the promotion of Homecoming, I haven't seen or heard her say anything about this movie.

I was being glib with the 'maximum carnage' comment but:

I imagine that her comments (which Feige later agreed to) are indicative of how Sony as a whole sees it. To them their stuff is in the same reality as the rest of the MCU with Holland's Spider-Man being the bridge; for Marvel the only thing that counts is Holland.

All I can say is that the renegotiation is going to end up being very interesting given that the current plans for the Kraven film are that Spider-Man will be in it.

Edit: I'd think that Spider-Man appearing might be written as such because that's a part of Sony's ambitions when it comes to a new agreement, that they can have Tom Holland appear in their stuff With some restrictions.

I would be interested if they were basically making a Spider-Man movie with Kaven as the antagonist, but from his perspective.

Saw Venom on Sunday and gave it some thought.

Movie felt really undeveloped which is weird since Sony has been trying to make this for over a decade. The characters are all very underwritten and one note. None of the humor landed with me. Scenes lacked a sense of cohesive flow.

Everyone except poor Tom Hardy just seemed to be sleep walking through the movie. It should be a crime to cast someone with Michelle Williams talent and give her nothing to do.

While it isn't inept like Daredevil and Catwoman, its just very bland. I'll probably forget I saw this in a few weeks. Its just such a nothing movie.

Halloween is tracking for $70M+ this weekend. Box Office Pro is predicting 80M.

Venom could be dethroned for the October record after 2 weeks.

Rooting for Halloween.

Crossing my fingers this ends with someone greenlighting another Friday The 13th.

Oh shit, wait...forget Jason is tied up in a bunch of legal bullshit right now.
