Fucking AWESOME.

I did my part :)

Hopefully this ensures quick localizations for the series for the foreseeable future.

With these news I can see the release on new platforms, obviously if they want really to make the franchise bigger.

Here's a video from 2009 during the early beginnings of Twitch where the guy in the video was worried Yakuza 3 won't ever be localized.

This series has come so far.

What are the latest Japanese numbers?
Should be a million seller with that, right?
Or at least very close.

Still making my way through 0 on pc. Might buy 2 Kiwami and 7 if they ever make it.

Nothing in the article confirms this other than a quote that it has been successful worldwide

Amazing. 6 is so good, maybe my favorite overall so it's very well deserved. I remember when 5 was finally announced for localization, I hoped so hard that it wouldn't be the last one. I'm glad it wasn't.

Well yeah, they milked Yakuza a lot in Japan. It's oversaturated there and 6 sold much worse than previous entries there.

Smart to have worldwide releases to cover that, but they should slow down a bit in releases.

Does not-japan as in the western sales include the south-korean and other asian markets? The series seems popular enough to get released nearly simultanously to the japan release there.

I really wanna play 6 but after only getting into the series at 0 I don't want to start skipping around and ruin the story for me.

Yakuza has become one of my favourite series though and Kiryu one of the best protagonists in gaming.

Yakuza has been declining in Japan, and with them going all out in the West, I'm guessing it'll happen there too eventually. It's just too many games.

Just FYI famitsu reports 361k copies sold in Japan by end on 2017.

Adjusted the headline since the info was from SEGA Sammy's report, as per below:

Note that it doesn't mean that it sold as many in the west as in Japan, because Yakuza is also very popular in Asia in general.

Great news. Still hoping for that Ishin localization that was hinted at in the Kiwami 2 survey. But either way, it's great to see so much love for the series. I still remember how Yakuza 3 and later on Yakuza 5 almost didn't make it to the west.

Japans sales were lower than usual with 6 but that's amazing to hear.

Yeah Asian market is now bigger than Japan for Yakuza series. The Chinese copies sold really well.

This changes a lot then. By end of 2016 Yakuza 6 had shipped 500k in Japan and Asia.

Total Japanese sales by end of 2017 were 361k.

"As much as" sets the WW total at 722k of which you'd assume ~550-600k are in Asia and Japan

Edit - ah im excluding digital.

Much, much smaller install base as well. But I hope most people are aware of that when comparing numbers.

Either way, good news, so hopefully nothing gets skipped ever again, and that survey a while back that asked if we were interested in crossovers means they'll fill one of the gaps by giving us Ishin next year...

No wonder Sega is looking at worldwide simultaneous releases. Overseas markets are becoming increasingly important to this series.

Extremely happy to see this. It's currently my GOTY and wow what a fantastic game. Can't wait to play the HD ports/remasters of 3-5. Keep it coming Sega.

Nice! And with that being pretty much all profits (translation and marketing aside) for Sega I'm hopeful they are going to continue bringing this series over and on as many platforms as possible..
