What's all this about COD failing on PC? Do we have numbers?

Been playing on PC since launch and no matter what mode I played, I'm matched within seconds to a full group.

I have done maybe 200 hours of pubg on X1 and PC
And about 15 maybe of blops.
I have to say I kinda agree, but it's like pubg is a thriller like Sicario, where blops is bad boys 2.

This is a great comparison. I remember those comparisons when PUBG first came out that it was like a horror game. It's tense and terrifying at times. Blackout feels like an action game with cool soldier dudes.

There are about TWO POINT ONE MILLION PEOPLE that were playing PUBG 9 month ago, that aren't now. Thats a lot of people, maybe the people who who were gonna leave, already left.

Those 2 million people are playing something...but what?

(Also, since the BO announcement month of May 18, PUBG lost 600,000 avg. players, and 1,000,000 peak players - can't ignore that?)

Using "failing" was too strong. COD sells on PC too and it looks like this one will sell more than usual.

It's just that COD is the most important FPS on console and among the most important franchises period. They are nowhere near that status on PC and there's many much more popular shooters than COD on the platform.

Not COD at least. The last COD had 70k concurrent players at launch. Even if this one sold 5 times as much the bulk of the population didn't move to this BR game.

They are definitively not play COD, as considering the current sales info would make the game not have even 1/3 of peak H1Z1, much less PUBG.

I think this is a great narrative for CoD. People keep arguing that BR modes are over saturated and that games are fighting over the same players. This is proof that CoD did not fight over PUBG players and that there are untapped players looking for more BR games because they are not currently playing the heavy hitter.

I mean, a 4% decline is still an impact. Not a very big one, but, still not something I'm sure PUBG is thrilled about.

It is, but apparently 'less of a decline than prior weeks, and far lower than some of its worst months such as back in May 2018 when the player base dropped by over 20%'

Black Ops 4 wasn't out in the weeks prior so you'd be hard pressed to blame this week's smaller 4% decline on COD specifically.

I thought the current PUBG numbers were mostly from China currently so it would make sense that COD wouldn't have too big of impact.

Anyone who really expected immediate shifts wasn't paying attention to the beta.

The *free* and *open* beta didn't even cause PUBG's numbers to dip. Why would the full $60 release be any different?

PUBG is insanely huge on PC and Asia especially, Blackout was not going to kill it obviously if not even Fortnite did. I know a lot of people want the next big thing to kill PUBG every single time a BR game arrives, but the reality is that it'll be quite some time before this game gets anywhere under 6 figures of players on PC alone at any given time of the day, and while <100k would be low compared to the records this game set, it would still be an insanely huge playerbase for such a game, one that would guarantee quick matchmaking anytime. PUBG is here to stay, better get used to it. I personally moved to other BR games since, but it deserves the crazy success it's got. Funny to see the daily players are more or less what they expected the game to sell lifetime.

4%? That sounds about right. I'm not really surprised that COD Blackout didn't cut into the mostly Chinese playerbase on PC PUBG.

People should look at MMO's, there is always plenty space in the market for multiple games to do well, Fortnite can, PUBG can and so can Blops4 and Ring of Elysium. MMO's fell apart when they all tried to "dethrone" WoW, instead of trying to take it down just exist alongside it and let the players decide, if the games good enough it will be fine.

I don't think the majority would side with you on vastly better shooting. Especially on Xbox. Game does not run well at all. Finally having a refined FPS BR is the only reason why I'm playing it.
COD is the same weightless garbage arcade shooting it has always been. The beta killed any interest I ever had on this. And as a PC player, PUBG runs smooth as fuck for me these days no real issues whole Blackout had constant hitches and terrible hit detection.

Another discussion entirely is also how the game feels. I really dislike the map design and the loot system.
The whole thing feels eerily similar to Islands of Nyne. It's basically a very polished version of that. But it still shares many of the issues I had with it.

Not to be a hater, but i'd really like to know what their regional numbers look like for PUBG. How many of those people are from the US/China etc.

$60 console-focused CoD BR game fails to materially impact highly successful $30 PC-focused BR game.

The only people who thought this would happen are the same people who strangely want PUBG to fail at this point. Fortnite, a free BR game, failed to kill it. Why would a $60 version do it?

Actually the pc version of cod has separate balancing and was developed by a 3rd party specifically for pc, and it shows. Outside of some weird bugs they'll iron out it is very much a pc game this time around.

I don't see people who like PUBG jumping to Black Ops as it does everything PUBG does well pretty poorly (ballistics, gunplay, directional audio, map design). My friends all got Black Ops but nobody has even touched Blackout. The traditional multiplayer is decent fun though.

After playing Blackout for quite a bit (and really enjoying it) i feel PUBG will be fine and have more legs.

They are very different beasts.

Agree mostly, Blackout's map is quite good though. The games scratch similar but different itches.

People really expected movement on PC? CoD hasn't been big on PC in a long time. I'd be much more curious to see Xbox numbers.

Also isn't it very popular in China? I don't think they're playing CoD.
It is extremely popular over here, to the extent that there are three PUBG themed restaurants within two miles of me.

The popularity of the game in China also makes these discussions highly frustrating because the game is on Tencent's store as well as on Steam and while this is purely anecdotal, most of the people I know who play PUBG have, ever since China blocked all of Steam's social aspects, migrated to the Tencent version or the mobile version.

Until Tenecent releases the numbers there is no real accurate way of accounting for the popularity of the game.

I'd like to see the numbers from the US market. It's also worth noting that these numbers won't change overnight. Not everyone rushes out and buys a game on release, they wait for sales, watch their favorite streamer to see if they even like it.

That being said, I don't see blackout pulling in PUBG numbers ever, unless it gets super popular in the Asian markets.

Why does it matter what percentage of people play in the US, compared to the rest of the world? or does the rest of the world not matter?
And Console Multiplayer gamers waiting for sales? Since when and in which Reality? First day/week Sales are the biggest cut of the pie for console centric MP shooters.

Isn't pubg mostly played nowadays in regions where cod isn't popular?

We don't know the regional splits. It's true that most players (if we include Xbox One and mobile versions) are in Asia as 350 million players are on mobile, presumably mostly in China/Korea. Of the remaining ~50 million across PC and Xbox One, we don't know. The 9 million (I think?) players on Xbox One are presumably mostly western as the console doesn't really have a presence in Asia as much as it does in the West. The PC version has splintered in China due to Tencent offering a version specifically on their store. Honestly, who knows. But it is very popular in Asia, yes.

If anecdotal evidence from my sorroundings is anything to go by, most kids won't pay 60 dollars for the game (or don't have the required minimum age to play, which isn't stopping kids today sadly) if they can play Fortnite for free or PUBG for the fraction of the price.

I think what is likely happening, as many predicted, is that Black Ops 4 is bringing BR to Call of Duty fans not bringing BR fans to Call of Duty.

I think the only people who are surprised by this are the ones who take Twitch viewership as some sort of metric for what people PLAY instead of what people WATCH.
