I think it can't be overstated it can be to say that Nintendo craft some of the best openers with their games.

Firstly, let's go old school.
I think Ocarina of Time was the first 3D game I saw. The intro clip amazed me, and this memory only serves to highlight how good this is to me.

More recently, Xenoblade Chronicles; this is such a cool intro.
.

And of course it has to be said but Smash Bros; nuff said.

I'm not saying all their games have great intros, but, when i think about it, they definitely have some of my favourites.

Zelda's intros are usually legendary. Shame they didn't put the same amount of effort in BOTW (even if it is a great game).

In terms of recent games, I'd also like to shout out Ys VIII, which is basically just an anime opening and looks & sounds gorgeous:

The Yakuza games always have great ones too. But then again, those might not even count, because they're just a montage of the batshit insane cutscenes that are actually in the game.

If you're not only talking about intro cutscenes, I'd throw BotW's cave exit up there as already legendary.

Let's talk about how IS have had great openings for their 3DS Fire Emblem games recently. The mobile one isn't that bad either, but it's pretty meh compared to these.

Modern FE cutscenes in general are legitimately some of the best in gaming:

^ Literal perfection.

Sorry, should have worded it better. I meant the title screen with the slideshow of link with different poses :P .

I wouldn't call that an intro as the OP is referring to it. Those are more just...opening menus.

But I agree, Compared to the amazing opening menu in Ocarina of Time, BoTW's falls short. They could have used a cutscene of a horse running at night or something. The picture slideshow sucks. Odyssy's isn't much better.

I hate intros in general because they tend (read: always) spoiler cutscenes and many other stuff in the game.

So yes, I always skip them.

I don't know about you guys, but the best intro to a game where only the last 15 seconds are suspenseful is Pikmin 3.

Yes, Nintendo games' intro / opening are very nice.

And...Sega also has something really good (ie. Sakura Wars 3).

I agree! Nintendo had some great ones! Mario RPG is one of my favorites:

I think one of the most interesting things about this intro is how many of these scenes are actual screens from the game, but with events that never transpire.

I hate being one of those guys, but the Japanese (music) intro is way better:

How interesting to hear you say that, when I actually feel the exact opposite :P. I know they couldn't get the rights to the Japanese song for the NA release, but if you ask me the game is better for it, because that guitar track they made to replace it is rockin'!

Nintendo is pretty mid tier when it comes to cinematics including intros. OP. Did you own a PlayStation back when it first came out?

Nah but I did borrow one often.
I remember the Tekken intro being pretty cool, but nothing was on the level of Ocarina of Time.

Any good examples?

Xenoblade 2's intro is super interesting because itndoesnt have a consistent one. If you go through the story, each area gets its own beautiful title screen, my favorite one being zeke and Pandoria hiding with their cloaks amongst the beautiful uraya

Am probably biased but I think Polyphony Digital make the best intros.

I didn't know Nintendo made Dragon Quest XI.

Spoiler warning: it's the kind of "spoil lots of moments from the game" opening... but it's also the opening, so.

Not even top 3 in my opinion, but top 5 for sure.

Konami, Capcom, Square Enix, Blizzard, have way better introductions.
