Jesus. Compare BLOPS4 to the first one. I don't know if this is OT but what's the biggest physical UK launch of 2018 so far?

Might want to check Bruno's post below yours
I was specifically talking about MW1 as it's the comparison point in the title. Numbers interesting though - I'd say the relative sales lag coincides with FIFAs improvement as a game somewhat too.

I bought it physical because it was over £10 cheaper, but as time goes on i'll probably think I should've gone with digital.

No campaign, no buy for me. No idea if many others feel the same way or not, but it'd be interesting to see if that has had any appreciable impact on overall sales.

But these days it is not that important how many copies you sell, these days it is important how much you earn per copy. That's why Ubisoft said that they earned most money with Odyssey in first week compared t other current-gen AC games and not how many copies they sold.

For single player games I would think physical will still be the highest for quite some time due to the ability to sell it after you finish.

It seems to depend on the game and/or genre. It will likely also depend on the region.

Physical is here to stay for quite some time. Having the option for both will only help the industry as a whole.

Digital had to rise to 85% of the sales to make up the losses since the biggest seller in 2010.

When the day one update is 50gb, why even buy physical?

I could understand if the physical version was a looot cheaper, but it's not. £50-55 vs £59.99 digital.

Majority of my games are physical, around 90%, but this is probably the first time I will buy digital day 1. All my digital are bought on sales. MP is better bought digital imo, I bought Overwatch, TF2, and BF1 digital.

I doubt digital offset the physical though

I've always liked physical...ooo misses! XD

This is the first big game I've gone digital though, mainly because I kept misplacing my discs which was a real pain when you want a quick play and can't load the game without the disc.

I also discovered today you cannot have the digital and physical version of the same game on the same console. One of them has to be removed. Never knew that.

I don't know man, maybe but I buy COD every year and I'm not even bothering with this iteration after playing the betas. I'm not a battle regards person so black out foes nothing for me. Unfortunately, the general multiplayer is not fun at all which is par for the course with Treyarch. Just waiting for infinity ward and sledgehammer. They just make more fun games.

Even considering digital, the series is a shadow of its past glory. Still a giant, nonetheless, only one with feet of clay.

lol pathetic narrative, BO4 is the best CoD in ~8 years. Digital is getting bigger every year, especially for a Battle Royal game it makes sense people went digital.

So if I'm correct, PS4 sales are about 150 800 ? Fun fact : Black Ops 4 retail first week sales in Japan will probably be stronger for that same platform.

Seriously? Is this PS4? Wtf.....on Xbox the digital and disc are the same data I assumed it was similar on PS4. That's....wtf.

It seemed to be sold out in two supermarkets I visited.
Plus the price gap is quite close for physical vs digital for it, although not close enough for me.

This is a case where I could imagine the early release date making a noticeable impact in addition to rising digital. I bet there's going to be a lot of interesting COD takes going on when October NPD comes out.

Like I said in the other thread, Black Op's 4 didn't really get a physical release... they released a mostly empty disc with users being made to download pretty much the full game digitally anyway.

So it makes sense that those who usually would buy physical had no real incentive to do so in this case.

I also think PC sales are significantly higher than past COD's which could be skewing this number also.

The fact that Activision doesn't boast about the game making $$$ millions in 2-3 days (like they did with WW2 and previous COD), tells me that game is probably not a huge seller in general...compared to previous COD.

It's a COD without a single player campaign, so I don't think it is shocking more people went digital.

That's wrong. The game is on the disc.

I sort of believe it has sold more digitally but also not sold as much overall as none of my friends on battle.net, PSN or XBL have been playing it, and nobody who plays games at work has even mentioned it either.

I'm waiting on a sale and for some friends to pick it up. UK based btw

It doubled the previous game's digital PC sales globally and broke the all-time record for the Playstation Store. The UK could be an outlier possibly.
