oh great, black clover is getting into battle royale

100 astas jump off a flying broom & have to see who has the strongest never giving up magic, like that one episode where siscon made a ton of asta clones

Also today I learned I finally qualify for paid time off, hell yeah.

I like how they managed to sneak in Knuckle giving Youpi the middle finger by having it go by so quickly lol

Oh yeah, got confirmed that Attack on Titan is definitely a split cour. Not confirmed when next year the episodes will be restarting though.

Seems like the second half of this season of AOT might not start up early next year. Maybe Summer or Fall.

Honestly, I'm okay with that, because AOT is already more demanding than most shows to produce, and the next arc is very action heavy.

Is it even still season 3 at that point.

Sounds like they definitely need to find a replacement for AoT if the break is longer than expected. I wouldn't even be surprised if Toonami didn't know if it was going to go on break or not considering how unclear that's been until last minute lol

i kinda feel like some people are misunderstanding what Pets' role in Alternative was, like i didn't feel particularly sad that Pets was leaving in and of itself, but i felt bad for what Kana was going through and I was proud of her for realizing that sometimes we have to understand that we won't be around everyone we love forever and part of growing up is accepting that fact. I also kind of enjoyed how the protagonist's journey didn't lead her to going on a journey away from the place she loved too, like if you feel like the place you grew up is where you belong that's fine I think.

I understand what they were going for. I just don't think it was done particularly well.

I'm gonna be controversial here: Pets sucks for leaving her friends to live with her abusive family on Mars. Not a fan of her after that. And Kana did not deserve the shitting on she got. She did deserve some of it, but Pets doing that out of nowhere making shit like her having a crush on that guy and Kana making her feel bad by talking about it? No that's not her fault. Have that convo after your "selfish" friend who is risking her life to save you from being assimilated into a giant hand robot has accomplished her goal.

Just noticed we're getting MHA, AoT, and OPM S2 airing at the same time next year lol

The way they count seasons in anime is weird. I guess it still counts as split cour?

It'll basically be considered "Season 3, part 2"

It's weird since technically that means it should be ending in November. Based on Megalo Box's debut date, it's supposed to replace Alternative after it finishes it's rerun.

I'm also wondering if we're getting a marathon at the end of the month. Attack on Titan is in this awkward spot where there was a week delay between Episode 10 and 11 and whenever that happens, Funimation's simuldub will also have a similar delay. If there's a marathon at the end of the month, there won't be any issues since that would make up for the gap, but if not they may have to air a repeat in 2 weeks.

I was never really able to relate to Naota back in the day because as a kid his age and even when i was a little older i was never really in any hurry to grow up whereas i'm able to relate pretty hard to Kana not wanting things to change and being forced to accept that they always will

Alternative shares a lot of the same problems as Progressive (the animation, pillows usage, etc.) but it gets carried HARD by the core cast dynamic. I think you can poke a lot of holes into it, especially the last few episodes, but I still came around enjoying it despite those things because the group dynamic was so fun. It's definitely not as good as an overall package as the original series, but I'm glad Alternative was made at least.

All in all, while better than Progressive, neither it or Alternative come close to OG FLCL IMHO.
I don't know, I don't like it much less than FLCL

I might like it more for being less of an overt assault on the senses for no reason

I don't really have any big connection to FLCL personally

it was fun, but other than that I don't see it as this all time great

Episode 5 of Progressive was probably the best animated episode of the twelve but overall I think Alternative was better animated then Progressive. I also feel its unfair to group Progressive and Alternative in how they used Pillows music. I don't think Alternative used the music as well as the original but overall it used it well. Progressive, on the other hand, just used it poorly >_<

Alternative was a good show. I'm happy it was made.

I will say this too. We honestly don't get that many shows with female leads on Toonami. It's Alternative and Michiko & Hatchin so far, and I think that's kinda it? (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here.)

Nothing technical about it. The three primary characters of Progressive and the definitive main character is a young girl.

I kind of wonder if people's opinion of Alternative depends on how their friend group was growing up. Because my friend group had some fucking drama growing up, so I related hard to this shit

BLack Clover sometimes outperforms shows before it and after it, meaning, its the perfect candidate to take the spot left open by Shingeki's hiatus. The decision makers would be foolish to not usher in the second year of this celebrated series by moving it up.

Pop Team Epic also counts.

Oh good call!

FLCL Progressive
FLCL Alternative
Kill la Kill
Michiko and Hatchin
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Ghost in the Shell: 2nd Gig
Pop Team Epic
Soul Eater
Jojo part 6 in like four years.

That's not awful but it could be better. With FLCL and Pop Team Epic bringing a different tone maybe we'll see some more women/young girls in action.

Some other maybes:

Black Lagoon (Revy)
Eureka seveN (Eureka)
Inuyasha (Kagome)
Samurai Champloo (Fuu)
Sym-Bionic Titan (Ilana)

All of those are at least A main character, if not THE main character (though I would argue that Kagome is in fact the lead of Inuyasha).

Also...Sword Art Online (Asuna)

I considered all of those and the closest one is Revy, though it is really Rock's tale.

Renton is clearly the main character of E7.
Inuyasha's name is in the title...but the action does focus around Kagome.
The other shows listed are pure ensemble.

If you add ASA and old TOONAMI to the mix you'd only add Morbito and Sailor Moon to the list.

Wonder if they'll just re run attack of titan or bring back one of their staple shows to fill a slot for a while.

I consider Black Lagoon to be equally about Revy as much as it is about Rock since the main plot in Season 1 revolves them two learning how to work with each other. Too bad Toonami never aired Claymore.

Just move up Black Clover like someone else stated. It'll fit right in with JoJo and DBS like it used to..

Ahem.

Anyways there's going to be shenanigans either way. They haven't announced any schedule changes despite two shows ending this week when they normally do it the week before.

DST is ending the first TOONAMI of November, meaning an extra hour of programming.

Lupin is also ending soon and I don't see them playing that a third time. OPM too.
