I guess I like Tool more than I thought.

Anyway, what are your favorite Tool songs? I'm sure we can all come up with reasons, this is Tool we are talking about after all, where fans get obsessed trying to evaluate what each song means. I'll profess and say that I'm not a huge Tool fan, or even really a fan at all, but I still think they have some REALLY good songs (despite some of their fan base being....fanatical, and the fact that I think Maynard can be a douche). I find their albums as a whole inconsistent, with Aenima and 10,000 Days being the worse offenders. But Undertow and especially Lateralus are far more consistent.

Undertow is probably my second "favorite" Tool album and I find it to be inconsistent, but it also has some great Alternative Metal songs like Prison Sex, Sober, and Swamp Song. Ditto for songs like Bottom and Crawl Away.

Aenima is probably my least favorite Tool album, but Forty Six @ 2 stands out in a big way. Not a fan of Aenima overall.

Lateralus is probably my favorite Tool album. From Lateralus, Parabol/Parabola is probably my favorite Tool song, personally, with the Grudge going neck to neck with it. Ticks and Leeches and Schism are both fan favorite, and for good reasons. I'm not a fan of the title track, though. Never know why people go nuts over it.

10,000 Days.....I'm not a big fan of this album, but Jambi is one of my favorite Tool songs. Excellent main riff, and the solo is really compelling.

Pushit (live), Rosetta Stoned, and probably Sober. All in all though, probably one of the few band of which I really like to love their entire repertoire. Can't wait for the new album.

I'm really anxious to see if Tool finally release their new album anytime soon.

I don't even care about another Tool album, but fuck their fan base deserves something. Kind of like how I feel about Half-Life 3.

Third Eye and The Grudge are among my faves. Love the themes to both these.

Wear the grudge like a crown of negativity
Calculate what we will or will not tolerate
Desperate to control all and everything
Unable to forgive your scarlet lettermen.

Right In Two prob my #1. I definitely lean more toward the newer stuff - my top tier:
Vicarious
The Grudge
The Pot
Stinkfist (the song that introduced me to Tool)
Intolerance
Lateralus
Triad
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned

Tool has been my favorite band since the mid 90s, it's tough to narrow down. I was initially a bit luke warm on 10,000 Days but recently Rosetta Stoned is probably one of my favorite Tool songs.

H.
46 and 2
Right in 2
Rosetta Stoned
Vicarious (lyrically outstanding)
The Grudge
The Patient
Prison Sex
Undertow (title track)

Lateralus

10,000 Days
Stinkfist (especially the extended version they play live)
Reflection

Honestly, sometimes a random song makes it way onto my favorite list. I'm a massive fan and adore just about each and every track they've put out so far. The wait for the next album is fucking agonizing.

I don't think I've ever seen someone rate Aenima as the worst Tool album. It's probably my favorite album.

Anyway, here's my favorite songs

Jambi (probably my all time favorite song ever, and I'm not into stuff like Meshuggah at all)
Right in Two (I love the lyrics and the build up of the song is great)
Stinkfist
Parabola
Sober

But I usually listen to the full albums, very rarely I will listen to a select Tool song.

That's like choosing your favorite kid, but I'll try.

Undertow and Flood from Undertow; Third Eye, Pushit, H, Aenima, Stinkfist (live extended version), Eulogy, and 46 and 2 from Aenima; all of Salival; all of Lateralus; Vicarious, WFM/10K Days, Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned, Right In Two from 10k Days.

OK, I cheated. Third Eye from Salival is my favorite recording of theirs ever and my favorite song ever probably.

Bottom is so good.

Henry Rollins spoken word breakdown transitioning into the outro chorus always gives me chills. Some of Maynard's best vocal work. Danny kicking the shit out of that drum kit.

Shits adds up

Then pretty much everything from Lateralus. I think it's their best album and like someone else said, it flows really well. It feels wrong to skip any of it from The Grudge onwards. It's also a special album for me because it was my eye-opener for rock. I was 16 when I became infatuated with it and before I only listened to 'regular' rock and pop music, that album showed me how different rock music could be (together with OK Computer). Around that time a classmate also gave me Godspeed's Skinny Fists and that was another new world opening. I think 2001 was the year where music became one of my main interests and Tool played a part in that.

I don't remember enough from 10.000 days, should give that album another listen but I was pretty disappointed with it when it came out.

Justin Chancellor is seriously underrated as a bassist. Everyone mentions Maynard and Carey, but his bass lines are killer.

Also, listening to Vicarious hits a deeper meaning especially with mass shooting.

Drum and guitar covers are some of the best ways to appreciate Tool.

And drums only

I used to be obsessed with them but I rarely listen to them nowadays. I did hear Jambi before a Car Seat Headrest show earlier in the year which sounded sick so I'm going to say Jambi.

H used to be my favourite song as a teenager and I'd no joke listen to it every morning when I woke up.

This dude is so fucking good. And hearing him talk in the comments about his experiences trying to cover their songs makes me really appreciate how fucking amazing of a drummer Danny Carey is.

10000 days, the pot, stinkfist and lateralus. I'm not as big of a fan as others, but it's still too hard to choose one.
