Steam is having a sale on the whole series right now, and i'm stuck on whether to buy all of them or just one or two. Outside of Blacklist, I haven't touched any of these games in years and while I definitely have fond memories, i've got no idea if that translates into a game that's enjoyable to play in 2018.

So era, which of these should I buy?

Also, here are links in case anyone else is interested in buying the games:

I think the all do except for conviction. Conviction isnt even a bad game, it's just not a splinter cell game.
It's a john wick game.

Assuming the ports are good (I played them om console) they all do, but Chaos Theory is the best. None of the modern ones come anywhere close to it.

Chaos Theory has dated really well and is still the best one. I find the original two quite dated now, I find even the latest games dated by today's standards.

I personally liked conviction but it was my first time with the series so I can't compare it to previous entries, I also played blacklist and enjoyed it.

They're honestly all good games and I could argue they all hold up, though the earlier games were a bit more sim-ish.

Chaos Theory is the best of classic Splinter Cell, Conviction was a different idea that went more aggressive and Bourne-like, and Blacklist was sort of a combination of both - and it's utterly fantastic. You could really approach missions in several different playstyles.

I'd say Chaos Theory and Blacklist are the best in the series at the end of the day.

So looks like for sure Chaos Theory, what exactly is wrong with the Double Agent port? Is it anything I can fix through mods or ini file edits?

I've also done a bit of looking around and it appears Pandora Tomorrow isn't available on any digital storefront because of previously unfixable, now fixed, graphics bugs.

All of them except Double Agent. And Conviction is great easily one of the best in the series. Blacklist is the best.

This right here. Chaos theory was way, way ahead of it's time and the follow ups were largely a regression from there.

It's a shame that Pandora Tomorrow isnt digitally available on PC. I think it either has some bugs, or there's some weird licensing reason with it.

Never personally played much of Double Agent at all, but I actually quite liked Conviction.

Like others said, it's a very different game than other Splinter Cells, but's its a very very fun action/stealth game.

Still need to play Blacklist too. Played like one mission of it after Conviction and honestly didn't like the way the game pad controls were set up for it. Maybe it was just used to Conviction, but the snap to cover button was different and other stuff was too.
I do want to give it another chance though, I've heard good things about it, even without Ironside doing the voice (which is a big bummer for me).

I can definitely sing the praises of Blacklist, Ubisoft did a fantastic job at making that game fun no matter how you play it.

Chaos Theory by far. If not, then Pandora Tomorrow.

Seriously though gimme that series reboot built in the image of Chaos Theory. That shit would be amazing with today's hardware. Much like Hitman has benefitted.

Chaos Theory whilst enjoyable is a little long in the tooth :p

Blacklist is amazing.

Play how you want. And Sam Fisher moves and plays like the skilled spy he is instead of a doddering grandad.

It does have a bit of shootbang acrion but the random missions and infiltrations are amazing

Didn't play Blacklist tbh. Did it still have that 'mark and execute' shit?

Yes, but you didn't have to use it. And it offered you multiple ways to do missions.

I think there were a few forced action sections but the rest was a damn good game.

I need to dig out my disk and play it on Xbox this weekend.

When I did a playthrough of the series a couple of months ago I had to torrent PT, it's unplayable unless you download an additional program that emulates a voodofx card, otherwise all the shadows and lights glitch out, which is probably one of the reasons why the game isn't available for PC digitally since it's the only SC game that decided to go with that kind of implementation...

Played the trilogy on Xbox in 2016 I think and to me all of them held up. The first 2 had a few annoyances and difficulty spikes but were still good and chaos theory is great. I've also played Conviction which is much more actiony but I thought was also very good

Conviction is legit my favorite of the series having played almost all the games to completion. Conviction has what I'd say is the most compelling story to it, not to mention the gameplay has an incredible sense of momentum to it. I won't deny that Conviction and earlier Splinter Cells come at stealth from very different angles, so it's worth seeing both, but personally Conviction's approach is super compelling.

Yes but the hardest difficulty disables it IIRC. You can definitely play without it. I finished it without using the cover-to-cover mechanic which kinda gives you free movement too if you want to worry about being heard and your movement speed.

Get Chaos Theory and Blacklist. These two are pretty great games.

Double Agent is ok but PC port is terrible. Might not even work. Conviction is also OK but it's nothing like the rest of the franchise. It's like a demo for what Blacklist eventually turned out to be, it's very limited in options.

First two games were really great too but they are outdated. Hard to go back to that linear corridor style of levels after Chaos Theory came out. They are much more restrictive, still some really cool missions.

Chaos Theory is peak Spiknter Cell but they've all got something to offer. I didn't love Pandora Tomorrow as much as the original, but it's still great.

I know the 360 version of Double Agent isn't highly regarded, but I loved it. There were loads of cool locations and I loved sneaking around back at the base.

Conviction is great, but it's a totally different kind of game stealth game.

It's got a lot of style and it's an honest attempt at dragging Sam in a more action-orientated direction while also serving up some decent stealth - but the latter suffers for it.

LOVED the coop though.

Conviction is the perfect climactic sequel to a series ever.

Let me break this down.

You have a very technically savvy and mechanically driven series thus far. It requires you to think, plan, and execute in a precise manner. It makes sense. Sam Fisher is the definitive secret agent. He cool and calculated.

Pandora Tomorrow, Chaos Theory, and Double Agent all show this theme off amazingly.

And then Conviction comes in. Sam is a rogue agent. He has no need to be cool and calculated anymore because he's pissed off and it makes perfect sense to throw out all those stealth mechanics for a more streamlined approach that shows Sam being not only at his prime but also at his angriest. No regard for killing. No fucks given. He straight up fucking murders people left and right for getting into his way. I LOVE this game for that.

The best imo is Pandora Tomorrow but for some strange reason it's not on steam.

From that list I'd definitely say Chaos Theory as the best one.

Chaos Theory is the best splinter cell period. Shit, the game was so awesome, that even the N-Gage port was really fucking good:

Echoing what's been said already, but yes, Chaos Theory and Blacklist. They represent two aspects of Splinter Cell at their peak, but honestly, play the whole series from the start including Double Agent, it's a great narrative and each game has it's moments. Pandora Tomorrow and Double Agent are probably the weakest of the series though.

The original, Pandora Tomorrow, Chaos Theory and Blacklist are all worth getting. Sadly Pandora can not be bought which sucks. Conviction is Bourne/John Wick. Not unfun, but not true Splinter Cell by any means. Double Agent is okay on PC, but definitely the weakest entry by far. Best will always be Chaos Theory. Fantastically dubbed in German too

Pandora Tomorrow just can't work correctly on modern PCs for some bizarre reason which people more knowledgeable than me will know, so they don't sell it digitally.

Anyways, on PC, 1, Chaos Theory, Conviction and Blacklist are worth playing. If you can play Pandora Tomorrow on console, and PS2/Xbox Double Agent, they're good as well.
