This better be horror, I've been craving an actually good horror show. Went into Castle Rock expecting it to be at least a bit scary and was disappointed.

Book for which? I've got a lot on my book backlog.10 episodes sure seems excessive for that story
Have you read the book?
You should, it's great. But you should set your expectations low for scares.
Haunting of Hill House
Have you read the show synopsis? You should set your expectations for something different from the book.10 episodes sure seems excessive for that story

Oh shit, haha. I just assumed it followed the plot of the book.Have you read the show synopsis? You should set your expectations for something different from the book.
There hasn't been a good adaptation because the way the book is creepy and psychological doesn't really translate directly to the way movies are scary. Most people would be complaining "nothing happened" or "that wasn't scary, that was funny" or "it was so cliche" so they change it to be more film like.Oh shit, haha. Why bother changing it this much? Just give it a different name.
IMO, there has yet to be a good and faithful adaptation of that book.
I'm always curious when people say "that book wasn't scary", as to what books they do find "scary"? I go to horror stories to be creeped out, unsettled, tense, and made to feel uneasy by getting into the minds of the characters and atmosphere, but the way people tend to go "read it. Not scary." about books makes me think they're expecting to be startled in the way horror movies scare you. But they're different. You as the reader need to pull more weight and invest yourself with a book or story for it to be effective. It's not a passive, "impress me" activity.

Flanagan is the most underrated horror director in the game right now. Cannot wait for this.
At least a few solid ones each ep so far, but they're used sparingly (usually to great effect) and you can always see them coming.
He's got some good stuff, but man Before I Wake is one of the biggest turds I've watched in a long time.Flanagan is the most underrated horror director in the game right now. Cannot wait for this.

I'm a few episodes in and this show is top tier though. Some of the best scene transitions I've ever seen, and they keep one upping themselves.
Yeah you're right, the other two movies he did that year were great. And this show is incredible so far, it's art in every sense of the word.I mean, it's horror, and he makes like...two films a year, seemingly? You're gonna have some stinkers. There's a reason Before I Wake was buried theatrically, and only showed up on streaming years later. Right now, he's operating at a different level.
I have no idea why he's making Doctor Sleep, one of King's worst novels, but I trust him at this point.
So is this a standard multi season show, or is this a limited series which tells a complete story in these 10 episodes?
That's great, thanks!I'll spoiler tag, just in case (but there's no story spoilers).
It has a definite end. Could be that it's an anthology series.
Penny dreadful was fantastic. It should be watched for eva greens performance aloneNo love for Penny Dreadful as a great horror series?
I do plan to check this out and it's good to hear all the positive reviews.
