I think the White Album stand alongside Blue and Pinkerton as their best work. Even songs that I originally hated off that album (Thank God For Girls) ended up really winning me over. I think LA Girlz is an essential Weezer song.

LA Girlz almost feels like a rewrite of Suzanne and (controversial comment incoming) it might be the better song. I'm not a huge fan of The White Album but there's a handful of fantastic songs on there that are better than anything they've realeased since the 90's.

Time to go back to the shack, one feels. The new song is disposable.

  1. Blue
  2. Pinkerton
  3. EWBAITE
  4. White Album
  5. Maladroit
  6. Red
  7. Every thing else
Raditude gets a passing grade solely based on If You're Wondering

This song is actually pretty good. Much better than Feels Like Summer IMO.

And yes, White is easily one of their top three albums. EWBAITE is solid too. Even Pacific Daydream had a couple great songs. I think we're still far from the Raditude era.

I always enjoy the vitriol that comes out whenever I see Weezer discussion online. Everyone apparently hates everything not Blue/Pinkerton, maybe occasionally white/EWBAITE, but yet you go to the concert and there are thousands there singing along to everything (not just the old stuff) that is pretty much "hated". .

I think only 2 Weezer albums were true clunkers- Raditude and Hurley, and Maladroit is mediocre- and all of those had some pretty good songs despite it all. Green is good, but they played it really safe with the simple melodies/solos. Still an enjoyable listen and some great songs. I generally love Make Believe and don't really get a lot of the hate it seems to attract (Perfect Situation as worst song.... what?), Red is almost every bit as good of an as the early stuff, IMO, if it were not for the 3 experimental tracks sung by Brian/Scott/Pat which just derailed it and should have been B side bootlegs, and never main album tracks, but skip them and its a great listen. White and ETWBAITE are great albums that are honestly worthy of sitting next to Blue/Pinkerton. Pacific Daydream- yes it is experimental and not as Rock as the other albums, not my favorite for sure, but I actually found the songwriting to be pretty good- its certainly no Raditude.

As for this new song- eh, the jury is out, as others have said, theres been far worse and if this is the first official track from Black, I'll reserve judgement until I hear the album- a lot of lead Weezer singles are sort of kitschy novelty songs- which are pretty much the record company/the band trying to sell the album, and get something "radio-friendly" to catch on to casual listeners, but often are not terribly indicative of the album at all.

I saw Weezer twice over the past few months and they were awesome both times. But this song, eh.

Still better than every song on Make Believe though. (At least Ratitude/Hurley had a few songs I liked.)

Eh, it's okay. They've done a lot worse. It doesn't fill me with confidence for the Black album.

This is an aside, but I feel like this version of "Songs From The Black Hole" (the album scrapped for Pinkerton) that someone stitched together on Bandcamp still holds up better then 2/3rds of Weezer albums.

They really need to release a finished version of that before everyone involved gets too old to sing in tune.

I've ignored most of their discography but of what little I've listened to this is definitely the least appealing for me.

This post prompted me to look up their Discography and realize that a) I haven't listened to a Weezer album since the green album & b) that means they have put out more albums that I have never heard than albums I have. I always find this kind of thing odd when it's about a band that I once loved.

I was going to come in here and be all sassy about how you've probably never heard Mo' Beats or Misstep, but yeah, no, this down there with those and everything on Maladroit that wasn't from ss2k, Thank God for Girls, California Snow... I can't even keep up anymore, and I've forgotten so, so many terrible Weezer songs.

I can't believe people hate Perfect Situation. It's one of the best post pinkerton Weezer songs, at least before they changed the chorus and ruined it.

Kinda off-topic, but I'm genuinely surprised people don't like Maladroit. Not on par with The Blue Album or Pinkerton obviously, but I think it's a wonderful record and a huge improvement over the green album. I haven't checked out anything after Make Believe though, but nothing I've heard on the radio or seen on TV has convinced me that I should.

Hot take time:

Red Album is one of their best and hugely underrated.
For real. I'm sad that that direction devolved into rad and, ugh, Hurley.

This song... Eh the first listen I was around people and had to turn it off Cuz I was embarrassed that before playing it I told people I was excited to hear it haha.

Just listened and it reminds me of Pacific daydream in the sense that it's catchy I guess, and not devoid of actual musicality like something along the lines of Hurley, but it's just not for me. I'd prefer bad stuff on the side of rock than this weird electronic version of weezer where he pretends to have any swagger.

Their cover of Africa is the worst.
Agreed. It's such a shitty, no effort cover. Somehow they took the worst elements of that song and made them even worse. And I love that fucking song, could've been covered so much better.

It's like when they were covering it they said to themselves "How can we make this awesome song super boring?"

I know pretty much nothing about Weezer outside of Happy Days video. Don't own their albums, or listen to their music.

But I loved that Africa cover.

I quite like the green album, it's a great power-pop album. Maladroit was pretty hit and miss (I remember they put all the demos online and there were some great songs that didn't make the cut). After I heard Beverley Hills for the first time, I bailed.

It's nice to hear some of their recent stuff is good, I may have to check it out some time. How are Rivers' solo albums?

I think I liked it. It's very different.. I'm cautiously optimistic for the black album. This is a step up from Pacific Daydream for sure.

It's not that bad. Have you listened to Hurley?

This song has a distinct sound to it which literally nothing on Hurley did.

I like it even if it's gimmicky.

I thought The Black Album was supposed to be re-recorded versions of the original Songs From The Black Hole? Or did I dream that.
AFAIK, no. He just say that in Black album he's going to curse or smth

ever heard the song "smart girls", where he tells us about his discovery of the fact that smart girls exist? or thank god for girls? i'm not saying he hates women, but he has a warped view of them. he sees them as objects that are to be earned/won, and if they don't like him, it's because the universe has it out for him or something. like i said, he shares many characteristics of incels in the way that he talks about women.

I don't think you understand what an incel is then if you just think having a close to jibberish song saying how much you like smart girls is incel.

it's littered throughout their entire discography. i don't know why you're acting shocked about this. it's been discussed a lot. just google "rivers cuomo women" and you'll find plenty of material.

am I acting shocked at all? very weird that Im giving that simply disagreeing with you is giving that impression. Do you have actual relevant conversation youd like to bring up other than "rivers cuomo is an incel, google it"?

what? i mentioned that i lost interest in weezer because rivers came off as a creep, then you made a post saying "huh?" and asking me what i was talking about. so i told you why i thought that, and then told you that's it's been documented. you replied to me, my dude.
