Not sure why... CBS

https://deadline.com/2018/10/secret...e-cbs-pilot-production-commitment-1202480562/

CBS has given a pilot production commitment to Secret Six, a drama based on the DC characters from Suits executive producer Rick Muirragui, Bill Lawrence's Doozer Productions and Warner Bros TV where the company is based.

Written by Muirragui, Secret Six centers on six morally ambiguous strangers, each with their own unique specialties and secret pasts, who are brought together by an enigmatic figure who blackmails them into working as a team to expose the corruption of the corporate and political elite.

CBS is developing a drama series based on the DC Comics property "Secret Six," Varietyhas learned.

The project, which has received a pilot production commitment at the network, follows six morally ambiguous strangers, each with their own unique specialties and secret pasts. They are brought together by an enigmatic figure who blackmails them into working as a team to expose the corruption of the corporate and political elite.

Various DC Comics characters have been members of the Secret Six over the years, including Bane, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor, the Mad Hatter, and the Penguin. There is no word yet, however, on which characters would appear in the series.

Rick Muirragui will write and executive produce, with Bill Lawrence and Jeff Ingold executive producing via Doozer Productions. Warner Bros. Television, where Doozer is under an overall deal, will produce.

Muirragui most recently worked as a co-executive producer and writer on USA Network's hit drama "Suits." His previous credits also include "Men of a Certain Age," "The Good Guys," "Charmed," and "Past Life." He is repped by UTA and Hansen Jacobson.

Lawrence is best known for creating the hit comedy series "Scrubs." He also recently worked with CBS to develop "Rush Hour" as a series starring Justin Hires and Jon Foo. His other credits include "Spin City," "Cougar Town," and "Undateable." Lawrence and Doozer Productions are repped by ICM and Morris Yorn.

DC has enjoyed a robust TV business in recent years, with five DC shows currently airing on The CW. That includes "Supergirl," which originally aired on CBS. "Gotham" is also prepping its last season on Fox, while Syfy airs the Superman prequel series "Krypton." DC also launched the streaming service DC Universe in September, with its first live-action offering "Titans" set to launch on Oct. 12.

This is entirely dependent on who's in the main cast (but most likely will be terrible regardless)

I seem to recall Secret Six being queer af. Catman was bi, Scandal and Knockout were lesbian lovers, and I'm forgetting at least one other character. So CBS, home channel for the Olds, doesn't seem like a great place for it.

And if you're not going to do Gail's and this is just bootleg Suicide Squad, then who cares?

CBS panicking because all their same old same old shows aimed at old people are failing.

Sounds like they're going with the earlier incarnations, rather than the awesome Gail Simone run. Probably end up in the A-team/ Person of Interest mold where it's a team of people (the suave one! The hacker! The wildcard!) helping someone out each week. Bleh.

Is the enigmatic figure Amanda Waller?

I can't wait until they talk with Waller, spend half the show trying to recover a mysterious asset, and then that asset just turns out to be Waller, whatever.

I'm down for this eventually being on the CBS All Access digital service, if only for the shorter season with higher quality episodes and the potential for more mature subject matter.

I was hoping Gunn's take on Suicide squad would be based on The Secret Six.

I find it funny that the author of the Variety article goes out of their way to not mention any legitimate members of the Secret Six except for Bane.

The Six are...

Deadshot
Catman
Scandal
Ragdoll
Knockout
Bane

Everyone else was a guest member or not a member at all.

Why is this show not on the DC Universe streaming service? You'd think WB would consolidate all of their newly greenlit DC shows onto their streaming service.

Ragdoll was something......
Rag doll was asexual right? I mean the genital removal is what it is but I don't believe he displays any interest in anyone in the series.

CBS won't do this justice. Like the shit with Catman's parents, or Ragdoll's everything, Bane, Deadshot has some weird conceptually horrifying shit going on.

I keep seeing billboards for The Rookie with a Nathan Fillion. I'm guessing he's a charming detective who solves murders while juggling family and fighting the sexual tension with his female lead.

CBS would definitely tone down villains like Junior.

Does CBS even allow gay characters in their shows?

Also this isn't going to air on network tv.

Look, DCU isn't ever going to be profitable enough to justify the five shows they have right now. The only reason they're able to do it is because of Netflix paying for the international rights. Every show has to be paid for by someone--this one's being paid for by CBS. Though unless they're getting the longest of leashes it's gonna be trash.

A Secret Six show would be cool... but it's either going to be cancelled or be a shadow of what we'd want a Secret six show to be.

On the one hand I really enjoyed the Secret Six ever since Villain's United, but in what world can that comic be adapted into a network TV show? Literally the most heartwarming relationship in that book involves lesbian polyamory, CBS is going to butcher this. I will happily eat crow if I'm wrong, but this seems like this is going to be a disaster.
