So this video explains that Yo-kai Watch Blasters has a problem that prevents 100% completion.
In the Japanese version, the game could connect to an Arcade version of Yo-kai Watch Blasters that provided items. Of course localizing the Arcade game would be unfeasible, so surely there would be an alternative to getting the bonuses right? Nope. By removing the feature, they prevented players from getting these bonus items. Items that are required for creating powerful weapons, and by extension getting an in-game achievement for getting every weapon.
This seems like a stupid oversight that really should be fixed with a patch.

I get it Level-5, Yo-kai Watch isn't a super-high priority in the West now, but don't hang us out to dry like this like you did with the Psychic Specters glitches.

Yeah, that's not a great localization oversight. If it was 2001 I could see them just ripping it out and calling it a day, like Nintendo did with the cellphone features in Pokemon Crystal. But in 2018 I'm sure they could push an update that just adds these items to every NA player's inventory or something.

Wait, what Psychic Specters glitches? Not seeing anything when I google; could you elaborate?

The great thing about level 5 is that you can click on a thread like this and not immediately know which fuck up you're talking about.

He explains in the video.
The music store wouldn't work so you couldn't buy songs. Buying all the songs was one of the in-game trophies.
Also apparently it wasn't possible to fight Wondernyan (though he was possible in Bony and Fleshy).

Ah, sorry, I thought the video was solely about Blasters and you were mentioning something else offhand, so I didn't check. That's at least not as bad as I feared; I was worried there was something game-breaking or save deleting, etc.

It's really cool that a 3DS game interfaces with an arcade game. Is that a first?

I remember there were arcade games that allowed you to connect your DC's VMU? Maybe I'm wrong.

TIL there was a Sony Pocketstation emulator/app for the Japanese Vita.

I think they could've done it like the F-Zero AX racers in GX, where you could unlock them in the game (by beating the impossible missions on Very Hard, but still technically possible) without taking your memory card to an F-Zero AX cabin.

Eh, it's not a super surprising thing, I think? Looking into it, you just use your 3DS to scan a QR code on a card you use for the game; not too unusual (especially for a game where you already get bonuses from buying physical medals, don't you?) and I assume there's other JP-only home ports of licensed arcade games that do similar things? It's not a direct wireless connection with the 3DS, basically.

There's of course also things more along the lines of what you're saying with the VMU, like the old F-Zero arcade game that would use your GameCube memory card, etc.

EDIT: hah, ninja'd on the example

Wow, talk about rubbing in our faces the fact that we don't have arcades anymore. That's pretty shitty.

Level 5 is so bad at localization that this being a thng isn't surprising at all. They really need to improve

The regular games have this Yo-Kai called Pandanoko who can only be found at the extremely rare chance that it slips into your game when you streetpass someone. I never found it, so I'm never 100% completing Yo-Kai Watch.

Yeah, this isn't as much of a problem as literally blocked content, but c'mon. How are you gonna realistically streetpass enough people to find this one thing?

Oh Pandanoko is in Blasters too, and only obtainable through Streetpass or trading with a lucky someone. Of course you could always Streetpass yourself but there's no fun in that...
At least with 4 being on Switch, Panda-snek will now be feasible... I hope

If they made a conscious effort to remove the feature for localization, you'd think they'd stop to think about the consequences. Maybe they just don't care? How popular is Yokai Watch in the west?

There's definitely some management problems... with the announcement of YW4 getting delayed after months of "it's totally coming this year" there's definitely a lack of something going on over there
This really isn't anything new for them, though. Without having someone like Horii watching them like a hawk, their games have tended to wind up in development hell and have often taken a completely different shape from their initial appearance. They've always come across as a company that puts the cart before the horse.

Mostly in Spain where it's really popular.

The games did decently in America (enough that we're getting more) but the merch failed massively that Hasbro killed it (though it was also their fault for not promoting it enough and screwing up the UPC codes), and the anime had to face budget cuts and replace the voice actors (though I hear it's due to union fees but I don't know how true that is).

So at least we're getting the games.
