The fact that they think a one of the largest capitalist companies in the world actually cares about them is quite laughable. They care about the money, not you.

Just checked Twitter. Our fellow DCEU fans are NOT having it...
Our fellow... Speak for yourself

But yes
I'm surprised at some of the reactions from that cult
Post some of the reactions, i'm curious.

Personally, i'm not too keen on the idea of going after Marvel's scraps. I hate what they've done to comic book movies. Gunn could be different away from that formula, but I doubt it. Hiring Gunn tells me WB basically wants him to come in and give Suicide Squad the GOTG treatment.

The more they chase what Marvel's been doing, the less interested I become.

Having caught up to all the news, I've just been really disappointed that Gavin O'Connor's work on the film, the writing and final draft Todd Stashwick delivered just a few weeks ago, and the circumstances that may have lead to James Gunn being signed may have all been a waste of the director's time and energy. If I were him I'd be really frustrated and wouldn't want to do anything with the film universe. I hope he's keeping busy with The Has-Been and the future Accountant sequel and pray that beyond all sense of realism and expectations, that James Gunn will respect the source material and make a solid Suicide Squad film, even though part of me really hopes he's actually working on Secret Six, an offshoot of the book with another oddball team of criminal misfits.

This news is funny because even with the public falling out between Disney and Gunn, the internet is till somehow blowing it up to being more than it is due to their obsession with this imagined "war" between Marvel and DC.

That James Gunn news...it's just so funny. The strangest twist ending to his whole firing. Of all studios and properties, of any potential next projects he could do, Fucking Suicide Squad. "Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony." Indeed Perry. Indeed.

I bet Hamada had a lex-in-superman-the-movie level shit eating grin on his face today. That's a light your cigar with a 100 dollar bill kinda day for a movie executive.

It's funny because these folks all know each other. Many of them are friends! The same is true for the comics.

Some of the responses in the other thread are... illuminating. One that made me laugh was something to the extent of "They should let Gunn reboot the DCEU and fire Snyder. But DC isn't smart!" along with other commentary about this 'saving' the DCEU. It's staggering how misinformed and uninformed people are. No one cares if you don't like the movies. I don't like Suicide Squad, speaking for myself. But like, claiming no one asked for a sequel to a movie that made well north of $700M? Really?

Or people thinking WB would throw Patty Jenkins, Cathy Yan, Ava, Wan, Reeves, etc. out to accommodate Gunn for Suicide Squad 2...

You wonder where these dudes get their conspiracies from; this type of stuff and all the bullshit about Disney firing Kathy Kennedy.

Yep. I'm not too surprised to see certain Snyder supporters on Twitter being salty about the move.

I mean, it was obvious once we knew Disney wasn't going to rehire Gunn that Warner Bros were gonna nab him for a DC film. Gunn loves the superhero genre too much. It was just a matter of figuring out which film it'd be.

I will say, I'm glad it's Suicide Squad and not Green Lantern like people expected and wanted.

Mostly hoping, assuming this all pans out, Gunn doesn't ignore the success Suicide Squad had with PoC audiences. Not digging the Batista as Bane suggestions because there's an opportunity to stay true to Bane's heritage, should they choose to use him.

Exactly. This shit is just their job. Checks cash the same regardless of which company signs 'em, ya know.

Fans want these folks to be as petty and mean spirited as they are and it just ain't like that.

Yup. Everyone you just named can get fucked, apparently. Gunn is our new lord and master. lol

Yeah, I've been optimistic for the upcoming DC films for quite awhile now. While I think it's perfectly fair to say that Kevin Feige has the MCU working like a well-oiled machine at this point, the various directors working on upcoming DCEU films are generally all very exciting names to see attached.

People are only sleeping on Matt Reeves' The Batman right now due to the various rumors about "Is Affleck staying or leaving?" Once the snowball on that film starting picking up speed next year and the first trailer comes out, I think people are going to get hyped as hell for that film.

Not sure how controversial this is but Suicide Squad is a FAR more enjoyable film than Venom. It's a mindless popcorn flick. It's fun and never really a slog the way Act 1 of Venom is.

You probably didn't watch the extended edition

So he can regret it for even longer?

Thought the aesthetic decisions were cool but outside of Will Smith in the first 20 or so minutes it's one of the worst comic book movies I've ever seen. Up there with such great flicks like avengers 2, thor 1 and 2 and justice league

If I could sit through catwoman and green lantern they'd prolly be on that list as well to be fair

The editing is awful
The trailer music in damn near every scene is awful

I hope Viola, Jai, and Adewale return. I know I may be in the minority, but I love Croc's design. It's similar to Croc from the Batman games. So awesome.

Everything else is forgettable or just downright bad.

Please don't drag lame Twitter drama in here.

Without posting the drama, the #releasethesnydercut people are seeing through WB game...
First they have this theory that the "creative freedom" of Wan is clearly in danger after seeing the last vid. The costume is too accurate and there are jokes. Some think that they can already see some scenes looking like "reshoots".
And now, the Gunn news ? Another proof that WB hates the fans. Damaged to the core.
On the JL front, they're planning a schedule to harass WB by phone, because they didn't respond to their snail mail campaign.

They need to get Viola in Birds of Prey.

I'm mixed on Croc. Dig his face but body is too short and lean.

I saw some who want him to look more lizard-like, as in Hush

but I like the humanoid version from Batman TAS, Earth One, and Arkham Origins, among others.

We will have people talking very differently about the DCEU when Aquaman, Shazam! and Wonder Woman 84 are back to back good/enjoyable comic book movies.

What do you guys think Aquaman opens to domestic? I have a hard time seeing it cracking 100 mil, which means we'll see that Entourage image 1000 fucking times in every thread.

I'm not that well versed with suicide squad comics run so forgive my ignorance but has Deathstroke ever been a part of the squad?

I really fancied seeing Manganiello's deathstroke in a squad sequel since he was cast and hope he is a part of it now.

Whedon made JL decent but I agree that with more time he can make JL even better.
It's highly unlikely Whedon could have replicated Avengers 1 which was actually his movie. The fact is that JL was an amalgamation of different things and that it released in 2017. People now expect more than a simple superhero ensemble flick with forgettable villains. The mistake, creatively (let's be obvious the movie had a myriad of production issues), was that they made Steppenwolf the main villain without hinting at Darkseid whatsoever. The original plan was to make JL a two-parter, with the second part being the payoff. The first part would have been about the team coming together and Superman finally resolving his character arc (or not depending on what Darkseid's plan was. See: Knightmare in BvS.) WB axed all of that during JL's production and essentially ended a four-and-a-half year universe on a whimper. There's no coming back from that now after the massive BO failure. Superman is MIA, Flash is MIA, Cyborg is nuked from orbit. Aquaman will be too if the critical and BO reception is tepid. All we have now is Wonder Woman 1984, Shazam, Birds of Prey, Suicide Squad 2, Batman, Nightwing and Batgirl if they ever come out. WB might scrap some again because they don't give a fuck.

Aquaman is gonna have a modest OW, but get carried by legs throughout the Holiday. It's got pretty strong competition with Spider-verse's second week, Bumblebee, and Mary Poppins Returns. I think it'll get #1 for its OW.

Definitely gonna be falling short of the Entourage opening. Definitely gonna be the lowest of the DCEU opening by a healthy amount. And wouldn't be surprised if it's the lowest OW for a live action superhero movie this year, under Ant-Man 2 at $75M.

In the end, OW isn't the full picture. Last year, up against Star Wars, Jumanji 2 opened at around $35M and went on to do $400M+ domestic. Now, I can't see Aquaman getting near $400M domestic; just saying with the box office, it's a marathon and not a sprint.

I think Deathstroke was on the squad relatively recently, New 52 and Rebirth times.

It'd be neat to have him there, but as an antagonist, going against both the Squad and the main villain.

Wanna see him in action, sooner than later.

The DCEU will be fine. Aquaman will be good, even if it doesn't break box office records. Shazam is looking good, and Jenkins has earned my trust for Wonder Woman 84.

Agree, and Joker looks interesting too. I'd prefer them to cut the last bad roots of the DCEU, ditch Suicide Squad... and give something else to Gunn (better, give him what he asks for). Justice League Dark was rumored at a time, maybe this ?

All those news are good and all, but I can't help but feel unengaged as long as there's no new Superman project.
I'm hyped for Aquaman and Shazam, but don't care about WW84, a story in the past is boring.

Big Tuna and Emily Blunt as modern day Lois and Clark would be the easiest sell ever

C'mon WB, get it together before he gets too old

Do people still think Snyder is still behind the DC movies?

Evidently? It's odd for two reasons: Snyder was never the Feige for the DCEU and behind everything. And the only DC project the Snyders are currently working on is WW84, because Patty Jenkins really liked working with them on WW1.
People are not that up to date on behind the scenes movie news. Some people still think Amy Pascal is at Sony. She's only been gone for 4 years.
