What? No it isn't.
This. I'm still playing this on my Xbox X BC
Yup, last good one they made.
Sure it is. They had a city environment that they would carve into various tracks. There were game modes in PGR4 that were in the open city without any tracks defined.
Huh. I always meant to play it but it never seemed to go for very cheap. Looks like it's cheap on PC now, though!
PGR3 is completely different in terms of track layouts etc., but that's not open world either. When you choose the track from a menu and then race in it, it's not open world.Sure it is. In PGR3, you could even make user tracks in the open city environment by setting up walls and corners to take.
say what tuna-sauce?Forza Horizon is a sim racer in an arcade racing costume. It has no sense of speed.
Even more than arcade racers, I want just *driving* games, like Smuggler's Run or even (ugh) Driver. If you remade Stuntman - minus the game killing load times - I'd buy that in a heartbeat.
I was going to give it a shot, but I read it wasn't a racing game, which is really confusing because it looks like one.
I think Onrush is great but yeah, with 4 game modes, I definitely think a 5th that is pure racing would work. Something like: whichever team scores the most points after 3 laps, points awarded after every lap, catch-ups disabled.

From what I can tell, PGR4 only had a "free roam" mode and cat-and-mouse that were multiplayer-only. That doesn't make it an open-world racing game in the slightest.
(It's actually news to me, I had no idea they existed. Not that it makes any difference now, seeing as it'd be impossible to play them at all)
There are (some) defined tracks in an open world in Horizon, but in PGR4 it's all defined tracks on a map (and other games like NFS:HP (2010)). A map you can't drive around in whenever you want. What I'm saying, though, is that when you're actually racing in Forza, there's a defined track in the open world, like PGR.
The similarities between these stop at floating cars. Which one does it play like?
Onrush is on gamepass already, at least I don't think microsoft would put gamepass games on GWG.
Nah a new NFS Hot Pursuit similar to NFS3. Electronica with track racing and intense cop chases.
I don't know if you're thinking of Road Rage, but it's been out for a year and it's attrocious. What happened to the Road Rash remake (or it was something like an homage to Road Rash?)

Thank you for making this game. The last great Burnout game (in my opinion) was the NFS Hot Pursuit you guys did at Criterion. And good to see a "Shiny Red Car"!!Personally I don't think arcade racing is going anywhere. It's the genre I love the most.

Folks in Spain will be getting the chance to see the game running at the Madrid Games Festival next week.
Hard at work atm and having lots of fun making and driving all the new tracks.
Plan on buying it day one Alex!Personally I don't think arcade racing is going anywhere. It's the genre I love the most.

Hot Pursuit 2010 was amazing. Still holding out some shred of hope that it will one day become backwards compatible on the XB1.Thank you for making this game. The last great Burnout game (in my opinion) was the NFS Hot Pursuit you guys did at Criterion. And good to see a "Shiny Red Car"!!

Thanks ahoyhoy (whilst I'd love that to be a Danny Baker reference, I must also accept that it probably isn't!)
That was why I posted it!
If someone could explain to me how to quickly post pics on Resetera then I'll try and do some more. Been meaning to get around to it in ages.
Well, good job with what you did back then, it was the best NFS game in my opinion since the original 3 and HP on PS2. And it scratched my Burnout itch for sure! That being said, if you guys hesitate about including Police chases in your new game, maybe add it as a different mode... A Hot Pursuit mode because Burnout 3 arguably is the best blueprint you can follow to reach most of your fans! Thanks Oneself! You are indeed correct. The car in that shot IS Red and yes, it is Shiny.
Regarding your kind comment about NFS HP - I guess from my POV that development could never be anything other than NFS as it had on-board weaponry.
That said, we're currently undecided about whether the Police make an appearance in Dangerous Driving....2002 was a long long time ago now.
slinch - I left my old job at Criterion Games five years ago now. What I do now is not connected to anything I did in the past. The technology today is far superior than anything we made.
Break out the old OPM2 scan though - I don't have that anymore. But then YOU do?
That said, if you're a discerning player of arcade racers, then you might get a kick of out stuff like Danger Zone and Dangerous Driving. But you don't seem to like those? Because it's 'shovelware' to you? You must have some expensive shovels.
As you've already said yourself, you think our game looks really bad and will be terrible?
I do hope it makes you feel better though.
And if you're a true gaming deviant, then you probably like Dangerous Golf as well.
OnRush is far better by ignoring racing. It's too bad so many people were so up their butts about that. People who, meanwhile, gobble up scripted stunt events in Forza Horizon and spend all their time in Burnout Paradise smashing billboards and doing takedowns in those "proper racing games"...
Burnout 2 is my favorite Burnout. I know the series evolved with takedowns, aftertouch, traffic checking and open world, but nothing will ever beat the zen like purity of focus of B2. The adrenaline rushing into my veins as I dodge traffic while boosting nonstop, then being rewarded with a satisfying high pitched turbo sound at the end of it letting me know it's time to do it all over again. The obessive addiction of chaining burnout after burnout into double digits around a curvaceously tight airport/alpine course. The encouragement of scrappy garage rock kicking into high gear, a protracted anthem to my speed. The disappointment of breaking the chain alleviated by the primal spectacle of a bone crunching crash.I was making a "Burnout 2:Point of Impact" reference there. Failed spectacularly. Another thing for me to fail hard at!

Will someone please break out the 4K version of that on Xbox One X eh?
(hang on, that would be down to us...)
I still play Burnout 3 from time to time on XBox (through my X360). Such a great game. I should buy Revenge and Paradise some day.
I don't have an X1, only a PS4(Pro). But thanks anyway.Paradise Remaster was added to EA Access last night for anyone with an XB1 and that sub.
It's worth mentioning that GTA Online was a pretty good arcade racer, and that sold 95,000,000 copies. The problem is that they just don't sell like they used to, unfortunately. Unless you're Gran Turismo, Forza, or Mario Kart you pretty much may as well go home these days.
Revenge, while not as fantastic as B3 IMO, will give you a Burnout satisfaction more than Paradise. Personally, I think Paradise wasn't on par with the rest of the series due to its open world design.I still play Burnout 3 from time to time on XBox (through my X360). Such a great game.
