$40 is too much? I dunnoooo. I'm super excited for this game and would happily pay $60. Tetris is an experiential affair for me and this game capitalizes on that experience in a way that is EXTREMELY interesting to me and that many levels seems like a decent value.

Seems like the music sampler application is broken.

The /MUSIC directory could not be found.

Make sure the USB storage has a /MUSIC directory.
Unfortunately this is working as designed. As incredibly stupidly designed by Sony. They require you to play it from a USB stick.

Also that song linked above isn't the one in the game. Must be a different mix or artist.

Pre order theme looks good :)

Glad you think so. That's a work in progress shot, the final one looks better ;) and I can actually say we accomplished something never done before in the theme software with this one.

That's really strange. I have a few samplers (Bloodborne and The Last Guardian come to mind) that don't require you to jump through that hoop.

So it looks like there's a physical version up on Amazon and nowhere else. Is this an Amazon exclusive for physical, like Gravity Rush Remastered? Or are other retailers just slow to list it? Would like to get physical but prefer brick and mortar retailers if possible.

Day 1, I just got myself a PSVR so that's just icing on the cake, great that they're going physical with this release as well!

Also I didn't realise that Enhance isn't actually making it, they're just publishing it. Some studio call Resonair/Monstars Inc.? Idk
Enhance is still the primary developer. It's Tetsuya Mizuguchi's company, of which he is the only employee. He contracts the development work out to Resonair and Monstars who work with him to develop the game under his direction. The project is being built the same way it would be built if Enhance had actual employees. The article Wikipedia cites as a source mentions that Miz started Enhance after leaving Q Entertainment so that he could make the games that he wanted to make, whereas Q Entertainment was moving towards mobile stuff.

Monstars is Osamu Kodera's company, he was one of the programmers on the original Rez, Lumines, Meteos and Every Extend Extra which were previous games that Mizuguchi worked on. Resonair is also listed as working on the original Lumines.

He worked with the same two companies to port Rez Infinite and create the new Area X, so both companies are already familiar with the type of audio visual experience that he wanted to create. I think they did a wonderful job on Rez Infinite, Area X is one of the most amazing experiences that was available for PSVR during the launch window. There should be no reason to be concerned about the companies involved, since it's basically some of the same people that Mizuguchi has worked with for almost 20 years.

It seems to be pretty common for Japanese developers who leave a big company to form their own companies instead. Yu Suzuki did the same thing, starting his own company YsNet which is managing Shenmue III, where he contracted development out to Neilo, which is a company started by one of the programmers that worked on the previous two games. Hideo Kojima did the same thing, although in that case he didn't really have a choice and he hired his own development staff.

interview with Mark MacDonald and Tetsuya Mizuguchi (starts at ~1:45:00)
I really enjoyed the part at the end where Mark starts asking the interviewer questions instead. That was a fun interview to watch.

One detail from the video that I haven't seen mentioned here or by Enhance games on Twitter yet:
The Tetris Effect demo will be released next Thursday November 1, and it will only be playable until Monday November 5th.

That's kind of interesting. I don't remember many offline demos being time limited like that, since usually that's reserved for online games or betas. (The only other one I can think of is the Sonic Generations Green Hill 1 demo)

That was a fantastic interview! Loved the reverse rapid fire at the end, and I'm so excited for the game! Does anyone happen to know if any Australian retailers are stocking the game, or is it exclusively in NA and Japan? :(

Both physical and digital pre-orders will include a code to download a seven-track Original Soundtrack Sampler, including the fan-favorite song "Connected (Yours Forever)" featured in the Tetris Effect announcement trailer.

Can't wait for this.

Ever since Bosman did his Tetris streams I've been looking to pick-up a decent version.

Played it in VR yesterday and OH MY GOD. It was a freaking spirtual experience and I can still remember the exact feeling. No hyperbole, my jaw was wide open the whole time. It's so damn engrossing to lose yourself in a game of Tetris while the god like sound design consumes your attention and insane effects reward skillful play. I didn't know Tetris would be the game that would sell me on VR but jeez, Tetris Effect is something special.

Was not expecting $40. Even with the pre-order discount, that is a bit high. Puyo Puyo Tetris was $30 on PS4 and Switch digital. I got the PS4 version for less because Amazon still did the Prime discount for new games.

I'll have to think about it. I don't have a PSVR. The gameplay from the CTWC stream looked great though. I'll make my decision when the demo is out.

Will wait for a price drop. What a shame.

A niche Tetris product in the midst of some absolute monster AAA November releases for... $40? Q.Q

I've been trying to tell people this since July.

People are getting too hung up on the what (they're playing) and ignoring the how (they'll be experiencing it).

Play the demo and judge then.

I won't be able to play it, I'm just waiting for the full song from the trailer.
