The Apple of cars is about to take over the Car industry now that its production is ramping up.

Bloomberg :
For the first time, an electric vehicle outsells all but a handful of Toyota and Honda cars.

First it was America's best-selling electric car. Then it became the best-selling luxury car. Now, against the odds, Tesla Inc.'s Model 3 is becoming one of the best-selling sedans in America, period.
Automakers on Tuesday reported monthly and quarterly sales totals. For the three months that ended in September, Tesla delivered more Model 3s than all but four of the top sedans sold in the U.S., regardless of size or price.

Tesla's competitors are feeling it. Sales of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the best-selling luxury sedan in the U.S., plunged 24 percent last month and are down 28 percent for the year through September.

For now, Tesla is the first and only electric car to break into the ranks that are dominated by Japanese and Korean carmakers. And it's doing so at a higher price than other mass-market cars. The most expensive versions of the Model 3 are currently the most popular, with an average selling price approaching $60,000. Tesla says cheaper versions starting at $35,000—designed to appeal to a wider group of buyers—may be coming around the end of the year.

I wonder if a $35,000 Tesla would crack the top 4? You can get a a lower base model Civic or Corolla about 18k and a Accord or Camry for 20-22k. Still a lot for a car.

Other car makers need to step up their electric game. I like everything about the Model 3 except the interior. Really wish there were some truly competitive options out there. But glad to see Tesla doing well despite the recent stupidity from Musk.

I mean, sedans as a whole are plummeting in sales. No one in America is buying any new sedans. Ford won't even make one any more because everyone is buying crossovers. This is Tesla getting a step closer to be the captain of a sinking ship.

Kudos to the independent spirit and technological trailblazing. The old guard can go fuck themselves. They were content to sit with their thumbs up their asses about electric cars and getting real with designs people actually want.

They keep pumping out absolute horseshit like the BMW i3, the Volt, the goofy ass looking prius, etc

I think their next model revealed is supposed to be a crossover in the 35k range, so that is the next target

The question for me is how will demand hold up after 6 months. And how big is the market for it.

I think it will, the Tesla brand already has alot of power. I mean these guys have shows and events like Apple does for car model reveals.

If they get to that mass market sweet spot of 25-35k its gonna be lights out for alot of car companies market share.

It has been a rough year so far, hopefully the quality of said car gets better.
I sold most of my share for a good price, but wouldn't mind to see them going up again.

This is really just the beginning. It's safer than a Volvo, faster than a Porche, and more energy efficient than a Prius. And in personal opinion one of the coolest looking cars out there with the most advanced tech.

Basically a fucking home run in almost every way. Tesla continues their trend of making the rest of the industry with their decades of experience look like absolute damn fools.

That's definitely possible.

I don't know how big the market is for 30k+ cars. I assume the biggest market is sub 20k but I really am just guessing.

I am blown away by demand for the 60k 3. I just don't know how long it can last.

The one thing Tesla will always get credit for is proving there is a real market for electric. Even if Tesla fails or is surpassed that legacy will live on. I like to see innovators rewarded but it doesn't always happen that way.

Not surprising to me, I see them everywhere. I'm not sure if they even count as a status symbol anymore.

I love my Model 3 so much it's by far the best feeling car I've ever driven, and everyone who has ridden in mine immediately says they want one too. If they can get the 35k model out the door soon I could easily see it blowing away comparable competition.

It makes me so sad to see them get dragged through the mud lately because Elon can't keep his mouth shut. Every time I drive it I find myself thinking that the Model 3 really does feel like the first car of the future.

I see one regularly on my way to and from work (Chicago). Sometimes two.

I absolutely love mine. It really did remind me of going from a flip phone to an iPhone. Good for Tesla.

I think this is really the perfect summary of the Model 3. I cannot think of a single thing I would rather have from another car. With the car-pool lane my wife saves 20 - 30 minutes a day in commute time. I can charge at work, so I am saving about $100 a month in gas. Every time a BMW M series drives by, making an un-godly amount of noise, I just shake my head at how much better my car is than theirs. It is a total no-brainer purchase to me.

Haven't they been taking orders on these for a year and are only now starting to come close to fulfilling delivery expectations?

I don't know. I'm skeptical of any data that says Tesla is a top selling sedan nationwide.

If other cars makers didn't sell any cars for the first half and then all had one huge launch party, pretty sure they'd have stacked sales in Q3 too.

There isn't any alternative if you want to buy a cheap electric sedan that doesn't look like shit.

Longer than that.

Anyone buying these is taking a large gamble on resale. I honestly am surprised they are selling as well as they are. People make rash decisions I guess. Large chance Tesla doesn't even exist in 2 years.

It has a lot of positives and I definitely see one in my future.

Build quality and quality control are high importance for me, which rules out a Tesla entirely at this point in time though.

Isn't this because they've had so much built up demand that they haven't been able to fulfill? So basically they're capped by supply. I see this dropping significantly and evening out.

Unless, of course, they're actually able to sell these for 35k at some point.

USA
Been seeing a variety of Tesla models all over the roads where I live, which is a smaller, generally more affluent city in my state.

Cool news. At my current career, I'd never be able to afford one at the current prices but I hope this is still a step toward the economic pieces falling into place where a Tesla becomes achievable on lower incomes... But my area is also starting to see a real estate crisis too, and I'm fearing I'll probably get priced out of the city by the time Tesla's smaller economy of scale makes it attainable at my current income level.

That's one thing going for Tesla. Their cars look okay. Too Mazda 3-ish, but better than all the weird stuff other EVs traditionally have been.

Not sure why no other car maker (in the past as new EVs now look fine) would just make some decent looking normal EVs.
