Well I finally did it. Hope you guys are happy with yourselves.

It's a nifty little device. Haven't had an opportunity to play portable mode to test it because the wife and I were having a lot of fun with Mario. Only got up to the sand kingdom world.

For the last 40 min we even played at the same time (she took left joy con I took right), heaps of fun.

Linking my account during setup was a headache though. Two step authentication is such a pain I don't even know why I have it on.

The home menu is pretty barebones at the moment, barely any multimedia apps. It's not really a big deal since my ps4 is my main console and pretty much has everything but still surprised nevertheless.

Again the ps4 is and will always be my main console but the selection on the eshop is pretty underwhelming. Pretty much 95% of it I can get on the ps4 and for cheaper too. And I'm hardly surprised that Nintendo's first party titles are pretty much full price still. I guess they'll never change..

I was going to wait a couple of months to buy it because of smash which I'm looking forward to but decided to bite the bullet since it's on sale atm.

The joy con's are actually pretty comfortable to hold but I'd still prefer to play with the pro controller.

From a software perspective I'm very underwhelmed, but hopefully from smash onwards the big budget exclusive software begins to pick up.

Have no idea what will actually release next year but I'm looking forward to the next Gen Pokémon game, Metroid 4, Daemon x machina and yoshi.

The only other titles I'm currently interested in is xenoblade and octopath, the latter I'm hesitant to get because I'm 99% sure it'll hit the ps4 and rather play it on that.

No regrets getting it. Playstation as primary (exclusives + multiplats) + Nintendo as secondary (exclusives) platforms has always been the ultimate combo. I just need to wait for better software output.

And before anyone brings it up, I love zelda-like games but not zelda itself so that's a hard pass.

Also portability isn't a benefit for me lol

BOTW, despite being a Zelda game, is not really a Zelda-like so maybe still look into it unless you really hate androgynous elf pretty-boy.

"Finally, Square Enix confirmed that similar games to Octopath Traveler are in the works, and mentioned that the Switch is a good platform for middle range games. Octopath Traveler will remain a Nintendo Switch exclusive, and it'll depend for future titles."

get captain toad treasure tracker

Get Tropical Freeze.

Totally skipped the wii u so some of those titles I have an eye on, but the prices are way too expensive still. Older titles like that I need a deep discount.

Also can I buy a 2TB+ HDD and connect it to the dock?

Golf Story and West of Loathing are some cool exclusives. To me these are must haves on the Switch. Only $15 and $11.

Ok I lied, West of Loathing isn't exclusive, but I think it's a console exclusive.

No you can't use a HDD with a switch but microSD cards are very cheap these days. Look out for those wario64 micro SD card deals

*Hopes for big budget Nintendo exclusives*

*Ignores the biggest budget Nintendo exclusive*

See if someone you know will let you borrow Zelda and try it or rent it if it's even still possible to rent stuff i dunno, it's quite different from previous Zelda games in a very good, refreshing way. It also happens to be the best open-world experience I've had this gen.

Congrats. i hope you enjoy it.

i don't care if a game i want to play on Switch is available on PS4 or not, and i own a PS4.
eShop is fantastic, there is a lot of great releases. the more games the better.
also the Switch is barely 1.5 year old : )

The only other titles I'm currently interested in is xenoblade and octopath, the latter I'm hesitant to get because I'm 99% sure it'll hit the ps4 and rather play it on that.

Octopath Traveler won't be released on PS4.
and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the "much" better game between the two, in my opinion.

And before anyone brings it up, I love zelda-like games but not zelda itself so that's a hard pass.

BotW is the best open world game I've ever played. i strongly recommend giving it a chance.

other recommendations:

- DK Tropical Freeze: a little short, but the best 2D platforming game I've ever played. it also does look fantastic and very colorful.
- Mario Kart 8 and or Super Mario Party, you will have a lot of fun with the family :)
- Splatoon 2 (only if you plan to subscribe).
- Fast RMX: great racing game and great technical showcase for the system. the game looks phenomenal.
- Snipperclips: another great game to play with your partner.
- Bayonetta 2: if you like action games, you are probably going to like it.

I don't believe them. With square porting everything lately it doesn't make sense.

No. That could be become a problem with the hot docking and undocking. Added storage is done via (micro) SD only.

Man that sucks. I guess it's not really an issue since I won't have close to the amount of games on it like my ps4 and for the most part the first party titles aren't 30+ gig each.

*Hopes for big budget Nintendo exclusives*

I'll look more into it but I doubt I'd like it. Even things I've read are huge turn offs such as a stamina system and a really shit weapon durability system.

Congrats. i hope you enjoy it.

I'll definitely catch up on the marquee wii u titles, Nintendo tax is preventing me from buying them at the moment though..

Regarding bayonetta, I still haven't even finished the first (ps3) lol

Of all the games, Octopath seems a rather old choice to wait for a hypothetical PS4 release.

Regardless of how unlikely it is, the game visuals are more about artstyle than raw technical prowess. Because of the lack of autosaving, Switch Sleep mode is great too.

Glad you enjoy your purchase OP, but without even trying portable mode you only saw one side of it.

Nothing to do with power, more that I just prefer to play on my ps4, that and added trophy support is a bonus.
Why would this remain exclusive?

BotW is one-of-a-kind. No other Zelda game can really be likened to it. Whatever it is you don't like about "Zelda" BotW probably breaks and is different from.

Stop trying to make me spend more money!

I mean, if he wants to wait for a ps4 release, let him. Why trying to convince him to get it on switch?

Also, yeah, yet another shout out for Zelda. Its so different from previous Zelda titles that you shouldn't write it off on account of past Zelda titles. Also would recommend the likes of Splatoon 2 and Mario Rabbids. Really, for a young system, there's plenty of notable exclusives

Well it's not likely to come to the PS4. It's like waiting for Persona 5 to be ported to the Switch. You're allowed to wait but it ain't gonna come

I could honestly see persona 5 releasing on switch. Especially since it's also on the ps3

I'd recommend local 2 player experiences then.

Has Nintendo said anything - or more to the point, has the question been asked of them - about that feature buried in the settings how a Switch can somehow push system updates to other units if it's used in local multiplayer?

I own three games for Switch: Zelda BotW, Mario Odyssey, and Cave Story+. The only one I have completed is Cave Story+.

Isn't Monolith Soft owned by Nintendo? I don't see XC2 ever going to PS4 personally.

Edit: My bad, misread. Pick up XC2 it's fantastic!

Just saying that Zelda game is pretty much not a Zelda game outside of the characters. So you should check it out in my opinion. Also a shoutout to Xenoblade 2 it's good with its problems I promise.

You can try Torna: The Golden Country, is part of the expansion pass of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 but it has been released as an independent ~20h long game too.

I didn't play the base game but decided to give this one a try and I am really liking it so far (just 5 hours in).
