Does this have anything new mechanically or gameplay-wise, or just visuals + audio improvements?

I assume there's no way to turn off the blood, right?

I want to play this, but I can't deal with that blood. Yes I know it's super-fake-looking, it doesn't matter. <_<

Hmm, so like... is it possible to be of the camp that feels like it is a damn shame it is not 60fps but ALSO not really feel like it looks that bad at 30 on Switch? I mean, it doesn't look busted or fucked up. It doesn't look like it hinders gameplay feel. (Just an estimation...)

Played a couple of levels on Switch and thought it felt... slightly different. It's still great, but why can't they get this game running at 60fps? It's a very old game.

Wonder what's taking Microsoft so long to fix the upgrade
God only knows. It's pretty ridiculous. The game went on sale 15 hours ago now and the developer notified them immediately.

How would you know it doesn't hinder gameplay feel from watching a video?

FYI, someone on the prior page of this thread said it doesn't feel as good as the original because of this. There is no way to cut the framerate of a game in half and not have it hinder the gameplay feel. It's going to feel more sluggish.

What an incredibly condescending and poorly thought out opinion.

2D is not "retro". Mark of the Ninja and VVVVVV are not the same because you could list both of them as examples in the same Wikipedia article. 2D serves a very specific purpose, where you present things through a very specific perspective, to show the audience very specific things. There are inherent limitations to 3D. You can't look both ahead and behind at the same time, for instance. If you think new games should be 3D, just because, then frankly you don't even understand the purpose of 2D or 3D, and that essentially renders your entire bog standard hot take meaningless.
Jesus.

I like retro 2D games but I don't want to pay 20 € for a 2D game in 2018. Most 2D games aren't even good compared to the retro stuff. They're mostly terrible. I've played a lot of them during the last years .... there are way too many bad 2D indie games right now.

Seems perfectly fine to me, to be honest. But then I don't think stealth games absolutely require 60fps and super-twitchy reflexes, either. Seriously tempted to get it now and play it tonight.

I assume there's no way to turn off the blood, right?

I understand the sentiment. It's almost cartoonish enough to remind me of Kim Possible's type of stylized action, but then the brief bits of blood and stabby pokey stuff disrupts the atmosphere. I don't mind it myself but I can see why it might be jarring.

I was only estimating based on it not looking like it had any weird delay and memory of the original game's mechanics not having any insanely unforgiving response times in control. Of course, I could be wrong. It just didn't look "offensive" to me.

Anyhoo, I bought it and I will play it later and see...

Of course it will feel different than the 60fps version but I try to ask myself, if the game only existed in this format (30fps) would it be an issue or is it only exacerbated by having something to compare it against... ya know?

I just came in to say I've played for about 2 hours on the Switch and it felt great to me - fits the platform well and is enjoyable both docked and handheld. Honestly didn't even realise the framerate wasn't 60. Seems to play fine at 30 to me. I thought the price was a bit hefty though, it's really annoying you pay a premium to play on the Switch.

It's $20 everywhere. There were some loyalty discounts on PC and XB1 if you owned the original game and I think there was a pre-order discount as well on at least one store, but the base price is the same everywhere.

Played in handheld mode on Switch. Runs perfectly fine. Can't tell if it's 30 fps or 60 fps. It's a stealth game...

Oof. Just tried it in docked mode and it feels worse than in portable. At least in portable it's a consistent 30fps, but in docked it feels like an unlocked framerate that bounces all around between 30 and 60. It's pretty jittery and unpleasant compared to every other version of this game. Very unfortunate.

I don't regret buying it, but it is definitely disappointing when it comes to performance.

Thanks. You saved me $20. I don't even think I'm going to wait for a discount now. If I decide to buy in the future, I'll grab it on PS4 for cheap. I'm not rewarding this type of thing. The game runs at 60fps on 360.

This is why I'm done pre-ordering digital software on Switch, even when there's a nice discount . Games that should have absolutely zero performance issues....have weird performance issues, for some reason.

Well.. good for you that you personally cant tell

The screen scrolling is even choppy. And the screen scrolls even in a stealth game

Anyway it IS 30fps - and I think it feels like crap. Especially compared to every other version out there

Again: can anyone confirm that ps4 is 60 at least?

This is unfortunate, for sure.

Everyone should blow up KLEI twitter a la Dead Cells. Maybe they can rectify it.

Ah okay. I was looking at the price in the OP and assumed it was more on the Switch. Good to know. Even still, £15 would have been my sweet spot.

I honestly hate how this is becoming the new normal for indie ports on Switch.

It's been that way from the start, honestly. Shoddy ports abound on the Switch, and people seem to think it's fine. I stopped buying indie games on Switch because them being kinda crappy ports feels like it's become the norm.

There are enough sloppy ports for it to be an issue and cause me to do research on every single freakin' game I buy on the machine....BUT the majority of indies I've purchased on Switch (and I have a LOT of indies on Switch) have been fantastic ports.

But the fact I can never be sure of a game's technical performance before it launches and now have to wait for impressions before buying anything is a pretty big problem.

OK I have played a bit (Handheld only) and my official (personal) verdict is "it's fine" but would be better at 60fps and if that is gonna be a sticking point for you, seek it on another console if you are able. :)

I've owned this game and DLC on Steam since 2013. It still says I need to pay 5 dollars to upgrade. Is this the case for everyone? Is it a glitch?

Edit: Oh they add a completely different title to your library so you have both. Kind of strange but okay.

I like retro 2D games but I don't want to pay 20 € for a 2D game in 2018.

Why? Things don't magically become cheaper and easier to make because they're 2D. You can't motion rig a 2D character model, or just rotate them if you want to see the other side. A lot of talent, craft, and time goes into good 2D, and you're asking people to charge less for it because you're too ignorant to think about any of this stuff?

Most 2D games aren't even good compared to the retro stuff. They're mostly terrible. I've played a lot of them during the last years .... there are way too many bad 2D indie games right now.

The reason "the retro stuff", as you've incorrectly labeled older games, even though that's not what that word means, is better than most new games is because you don't remember most old things, because all the old things that were bad were forgotten.

Of course modern 2D games can't compete with 90s 2D games, because they have to compete with Super Mario World, but not garbage like Pit Fighter.

Of course modern music can't compete with 80s music, because all the shitty Stryper B-sides have disappeared from the collective consciousness of 80s nostalgia, and people just remember Livin' On A Prayer.

Of course modern television can't compete with stuff from the sixties, because "sixties television" is just Columbo and Monty Python's Flying Circus now, after everyone has forgotten trash like My Mother The Car.

There are indeed way too many bad 2D indie games right now, just like there always were. You just don't remember all the crummy Auts clones, or even Auts itself probably, because only Cave Story and other games of its caliber endured. This has nothing to do with 2D, or indie. There are way too many terrible movies and television shows and music as well, because there is just way too much of everything, and there are loads of terrible expensive 3D games too.

The reason I've not learned to accept your opinion that 2D is bad is because the same criteria you used to arbitrarily decide 2D is bad also applies to everything else, and yet you didn't decide those things were bad as well. If we were having this conversation 20 years on you'd just be complaining about how all these shitty 2038 2D indie games aren't as good looking as Owlboy, don't play as well as Hollow Knight, and aren't as entertainingly written as Undertale, in a distant golden magical bygone era where all indie games were fantastic. Or to put it another way, your opinion is stupid.
