I LOVE the Mario Kart series but I have not, nor have I ever, understood how to properly play or be good at Super Mario Kart. I'm trying to play through it on my SNES Classic and it's borderline tortuous.

I used to love it as a kid but I also don't really get it anymore. I dunno how I beat it as a kid, it's so damn cheap.

I was shocked by how hard and cheap it was when I got it on Wii VC and SNES Classic.

The secret is to use Donkey Kong or Bowser for those top speeds, get good at powersliding accurately around turns using the L and R triggers, and to avoid colliding into anything. Oh, and grab lots of coins.

DKC1 ranked higher than DKC2? I'm pretty sure that's illegal in most countries, and you could be put to death for that in certain Middle Eastern countries.

Don't really see a problem with the list. It has many of what I would call my top 25 SNES games. Why so upset over someone's opinion?

There was nothing wrong with that list. Although I didn't agreed with it 100%, every game on the list is great.

This is one of the worst threads I've ever seen. Gotta fight hyperbole with hyperbole.

Talk about an overreaction. I was expecting something like Clayfighters in top 3.

They got #1 right and all the games in the list are good.

These lists are just people's opinions just like this OP post calling it out.

Don't drift, don't use the brake, only on gas and off gas, and use lightweights like koopa.

The top 10 (not so much the order but what's in it) of the list isn't too bad but it gets messy real fast afterwards.

It's really not that bad of a list, though the obsession with Earthworm Jim is a little odd.

MK isn't a good game per-se, but it did have a really notable cultural impact on the system to the point where I could see putting it on a top games list. If we're talking strictly mechanics though, then sure, I could see why that could be upsetting. Both 1 and 2 on the same list is very silly. The top 10 are pretty close to what I would pick, but swap DKC 1 with 2, take out Star Fox and replace with Mega Man X2.

I agree that Earthworm Jim is pretty bad. I've never understood the love. Those levels are horribly frustrating in terms of design.

I don't condone top 25 SNES games lists, and don't approve of top 10 lists, that snub Tetris Attack.

"It looks just like a cartoon" was the mid-90s version of "it looks just like a movie," and Earthworm Jim 1&2 hit that aesthetic better than most games that tried. I agree that they don't play very well at all, but their graphics were a huge deal at the time.

Yeah, I could totally see that. I remember being really enamored with the design as a kid but all my memories of it were just of getting lost and being frustrated. Obviously it hit it big though since it even got its own WB Kids show irrc?

Killer Instinct should've been above SFII on the list.

You have terrible taste, my friend. Killer Instinct, while technically impressive, was underwhelming on the SNES if you had any experience with the arcade version. Also, KI is a pretty gimmicky and shallow fighting game. The series remained that way until 2013. Go ahead and try enjoying the rereleases of KI and KI2 on Xbox One. Try and watch your nostalgia melt away.

Hyper Fighting, on the other hand, is arguably the greatest fighting game of all time. The SNES port, while not arcade perfect, was extremely faithful. The game is still as fun to play as ever too.

SFII Turbo is a top 5 SNES game, any genre. You are entitled to your opinion but it is a terrible one.

Alpha 2 was better than SF Hyper Fighting. I've played quite a bit of KI and KI 2 on the One and I still love both of those games. Question is why are you so triggered because I think Killer Instinct is better than that overhyped trash Street Fighter 2?

Alpha 2 was a hot mess on the SNES. You can make an argument for the arcade version being better than Hyper Fighting, but not the SNES versions.

That last sentence shows how hurt you is tho. GOOD DAY, UNKIND SIR.

You still never answered the question. Anyway, you have been reported for personally attacking my opinion on the subject matter. Hopefully the moderation staff will do the right thing. Have a great day sir.

Well, at least they didn't put any other fighting game above Street Fighter II Turbo.

why is it even on the list when you can play the arcade version? why wouldn't i just play ST instead? why would i hook up a SNES just to play a compromised version of a fighting game that's available in an arcade-perfect form on every mainstream modern console...

I don't know why people keep talking of DKC1 like if it were a bad game or something. It is a GREAT game, and the most recognizable of the trilogy too.

Funny you should say this, I just got a Super NT. I own zero SNES games right now, but I have a Super Famicom version of SFII Turbo that should be arriving today. I also have an original SFC Hori Fighting Commander. I don't plan on buying any other games.

Mind you, I own the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection on not one, but two platforms. I prefer to play fighting games on my arcade stick too.

I also already own the SNES version via the SNES Classic.

THE GAME IS THAT DAMN GOOD, YO.

I'm surprised this list would be at all controversial. It's super safe, practically a list of the SNES' best sellers.

Without watching the vid it's a very by the numbers list. I think Mortal Kombat 1 just proves they were just picking the most popular games that everyone talks about for the system and compiled a safe list.

For example as the OP correctly pointed out Mortal Kombat 1. It's SHIT compared to 2 and even 3 and the SNES port is horrendous so no that should have been anywhere near the top 60.

MK1, MK3, and UMK3 should all be avoided on the SNES. MK1 is a bad port. MK3 is a disappointing game all around. UMK3 was decent in the arcade, but the SNES port was extra janky. MKII was a solid port, tho. I don't know if it's a top 25 game on the SNES, but I ain't upset at its inclusion.

Mortal Kombat 1 is really the only outlandish choice on this list. Should have put any random version of Street Fighter in that slot and it would have been a lot easier to accept this list. The ordering a lot will probably find funky but that gets into opinion territory.

Dorkly's Top 25 Greatest SNES games is quite possibly the worst Top SNES List I've ever seen.

After #14 the list is alright, but... before that?

They have Earthworm Jim 2 and Mortal Kombat 1 in a top list. Mortal Kombat ONE!

They also put Contra 3 and Earthbound below Earthworm Jim 2. Think about that, EJ2 is more interesting to them than Contra 3 and Earthbound. And no, Earthworm Jim was never a great game, much less the sequel. It had great graphics, and animation, but the gameplay, controls, and hit detection were bad. Not to mention the mandatory minigames between levels, and that awful submarine level.

Other baffling areyoukiddingme choices:
-Kirby 3 made the list but not Super Star.
-Secret of Mana is #20, Mortal Kombat 1 is # 17.
-Donkey Kong Country 2 is lesser good than DKC1

List:
25 - Contra 3
24 - Earthbound
23 - Earthworm Jim 2
22 - Kirby 3
21 - F-Zero
20 - Secret of Mana
19 - Super Castlevania 4
18 - Earthworm Jim
17 - Mortal Kombat
16 - Final Fantasy 2
15 - Mortal Kombat 2
14 - Yoshi's Island
13 - Street Fighter 2 Turbo
12 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4
11 - Final Fantasy 3
10 - Donkey Kong Country 2
09 - Star Fox
08 - Mega Man X
07 - Super Mario RPG
06 - Chrono Trigger
05 - Super Metroid
04 - Donkey Kong Country
03 - Super Mario Kart
02 - Super Mario World
01 - Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past

List is fine. Nice overreaction. Lol
