Immediately came to mind even before finishing the story.

"I kidnapped some white kids. Now I am taking them to Wal Mart."

I'm trying to figure out what she thought made sense about that.

Did I dispute this fact somewhere?
It's just that to some, using words like "while" makes it seem like you're lessening the importance of that fact.

Of course both played a factor in this case, however, as others have already pointed out, had the man been white, this wouldn't have involved a person following them, and then having the cops called on them, which is really the focal point of this story.

If it was just,
being black was a major factor, I'd have to say gender also played a factor.

I don't think anybody would've felt the need to dissect your comments further, as you didn't try to shift focus away from what the main discussion was about.

I mean, semantics, but it's important when it's in regards to this issue.

Reminds me of this story.

https://www./news/article-2517281/H...hompson-African-American-legal-guardians.html

Landry Thompson was visiting the city from Tulsa, Oklahoma over the weekend with her dance in

structor Emmanuel Hurd, 29, and her dance partner, 22-year-old Josiah Kelly, when cops hauled her away and held her for 11 hours.

Landry's mother, Destiny, has accused the police officers of racial profiling. She said: Are you aware your daughter is with two black men?' When I said 'Yes, I'm aware of that,' he called into questioning our parenting,"

Being a guy with kids is suspect to some people, it's ridiculous.

My dad is a white guy, looks like Cumberbatch. My niece looked like Rudy Huxtable. He was out with her one day ten or fifteen years ago. Someone called the cops on him. Luckily enough my sister was a 911 dispatcher at the time, happened to see the run and the license plate and circumvented a police response.

The n word hits their brain so hard. They want to yell it from the highest mountain. They want to lean into that shit. But society tells them its racist. So they feign concern and call the cops. Hoping some shit happens.

Sometimes it's grating to see people insert other reasons when it looks like racism. That's all.

It's possible to care about two things at once. It's possible to be mad at racism while also being mad that men are often targeted with certain connotations when seen with children.

It's just that to some, using words like "while" makes it seem like you're lessening the importance of that fact.

I would just call that poor reading comprehension, not poor semantics. The usage of the word "while" there does nothing to diminish an issues importance.

This intersects a lot with the US view on adult men with children as well. We have a very problematic view on involved fatherhood or men as caretakers with young children.

Lmao. This is one of the concerns I have with my white nieces and nephews.

My stepdaughter is white. I've always been worried when she's with me in public that we'll be accosted by some racist idiot.

This intersects a lot with the US view on adult men with children as well. We have a very problematic view on involved fatherhood or men as caretakers with young children.

This is a very good point.

it's the wriggle room given to these situations that allow people to downplay racism.

Cobb county is maybe the worst county in GA. There are plenty of rural bumblefuck counties full of assholes, but Cobb County is full of the same except they just try to act like they're better. It's unfortunately my home county.

If you are black don't get off the highways until you hit Atlanta, Savannah, or Augusta.

Valdosta or Athens will do in a pinch

Awesome, now you've implied that I've tried downplay racism.

It's nearly impossible to have a reasonable discussion on this forum sometimes.
Other reasons might have been at play...we don't know. But we know for sure that racism was the big one...let's focus on that. The most normal things will be seen as shady when racism is involved.

Let's be honest, both race and gender were factors. I'd say the fact police were called was because he was black, but the side eye comes from adult male with children generally.

Personally counting down the days until someone questions me when I'm out with my daughter who's skin color is white.

I remember this happening to me in 4th grade with my dad who's skin color is white.

harassment
(either harris-meant or huh-rass-meant)
n. the act of systematic and/or continued unwanted and annoying actions of one party or a group, including threats and demands. The purposes may vary, including racial prejudice, personal malice, an attempt to force someone to quit a job or grant sexual favors, apply illegal pressure to collect a bill, or merely gain sadistic pleasure from making someone fearful or anxious.

Following him all the way to his house while he's being responsible for two kids that aren't his??? Dude should have called the police on her. And I would've went full HAM if I was the kids' parents.

Racist neck of the woods or not, you fuck with me when I'm taking care of children, we're going to have issues.

Can we start holding these people accountable? I mean it'd be pretty obvious if the kids were in distress or not... This is wasting the cops time and is pretty obviously an attempt at harassment.

I'm in Cobb County. A lot of the people I know would have stood up for him. It's really not that bad here. There's just a lot of the type of woman that is pro-Kavanaugh because liberals (and by extension, minorities) are evil. Like my mother. You should have seen her face when I told her that she was a low information voter and a bad person. Easier to do when you're over 40.

You think a white man would have the cops called on him for being with two white children?
Had it happen, I did a lot of babysitting when I was younger, people distrust men with kids, I'd imagine the frequency is higher for black men just because of racists, but holy shit, not every man who interacts with children is a pedophile.

EDIT: I should say I had taken them to the park to play, the story at hand with them at walmart is 95% racism 5% sexism, I'd say. Though I think you'd have a hard time finding calls at all if it was a woman regardless of race.

No i didn't. I said inserting other reasons allow people to downplay racism. O didn't say you were.

Literally nobody is doing that. Though you're doing a great job downplaying the sexism likely involved in this story.

That's possible. The article points it out though.

Ya'll talking about Georgia. I've seen same shit happen in NY. This shit all over.

I mean I have no particular love for the South. They got off easy after the war. But no way is this just a "lol fucking Georgia" problem.

Let's be honest, both race and gender were factors. I'd say the fact police were called was because he was black, but the side eye comes from adult male with children generally.

I'm astounded at the fact that very little gives me anxiety in life except taking my daughter to the park in a white neighborhood. That does it every fucking time. I take her to our local park most of the time but sometimes she wants to play with the nicer equipment we don't have so we go for that drive. I cringe when my wife is like "Oh I'm gonna stay home you two have fun". Some folks as chill as fuck and really nice. But every once in a while I get that "stay away from me!" energy and I know what time it is...

MerryPerfumedGorilla-max-1mb.gif

It really kills me inside....

A noisy ass white woman. Shocker.

Can't do or say shit in the moment though. Anything near standing up for yourself unafraid will be intentionally interpreted as African aggression. Can't have that..

I get that there is an issue when it comes to males with children, but I don't really see any reason it's logical to say that that was a 'major factor' in this particular instance.

The likelihood that a white man with his two white kids at Walmart would get that treatment from this woman is extremely low.

Race was the only 'major factor' in this story.

Man. I'm white, but this feels like the truth. And it fucking sucks. At least Atlanta/Savannah in particular seem very progressive in that regard. I stay in Atlanta these days. But the rest of our state is horrible.
