Fantastic episode.

The season as a whole was good but slightly disappointing. The lab storyline was a problem, which should not be the case when you have characters as strong as Gus and Mike. It was a bit weak on its own, and the fact that it had literally no connection to Jimmy just made it stand out even more.

The cinematography is amazing, the last few episodes have been gorgeous.
Going to miss it this break. I think I might have to fully rewatch early next year. <3 Kim

I told you all that last week he couldn't be more sincere. Chuck is nothing to him anymore.

Kim's face at the end was absolutely devastating when she realized he was just acting.

Lalo jumping into the ceiling was absolutely hilarious. Considering we already have the terminator twins it's not really that much of a leap (no pun intended), but goddamn the Salamancas are wild.

Seems like people are overthinking the one Lalo scene since it was kinda amusing/cartoony how he dropped down on the other side of the glass. Getting into the ceiling wouldn't have taken very long with something to stand on.
Lol but there was nothing there and zero noise was made AND it took about 5 seconds which seems laughably impossible.

Didn't bother me though I just found it hilarious and added to Lalos character imo.

But he can't be that oblivious right? The reason they first started to grow apart was because of his sociopathic response to letter when he first read it. He obviously still does want adoration and respect despite that rant, but that ending just makes me view that meltdown in the parking lot in a different, more sinister light.

I don't think he realizes his reaction to the letter is what caused them to start drifting apart. I think he genuinely doesn't understand how anyone could have sympathy for Chuck and especially now that Kim has started rolling around in the dirt with him a bit, he thinks she's with him on this.

I'm having trouble squaring the first scene in continuity. When Jimmy passed the bar, it was in Season 1 and Chuck was already "sick". He wouldn't have been out at a karaoke bar. I'm confused.

Great episode. Mike and Jimmy both took the fateful steps that committed them to the paths that run through Breaking Bad. I love the way this show slides the pieces into place so naturally. Every choice tumbles into the next as the characters just live their lives as themselves. Mike's eroding ethics, Jimmy's shedding of the pretense of ethics. They had a ways to travel, and this season got them there.

Kim was the real MVP here. She was practically the surrogate for Jimmy's whole emotional arc this season, particularly in regard to Chuck. Rhea Seehorn's performance conveys such empathy and emotional depth. Really outstanding.

so I did think the Mike Werner scene was good but also I couldn't help but thinking "ehh, he did it to himself" and also that the writing for the whole season failed that scene. like, Werner as he was written was a fucking moron. he was too smart to be that big of a moron. earlier in the season Mike basically gives him a "you're gonna die and it's going to be out of my hands" talk and he still keeps fucking around. then at the end it takes him actual time to realize he's about to die, then asking if there's another way. it's like, dude, we talked about this. you fucked up. do you not see the facility we're in, do you not see the crazy precautions being made to keep all yall off the grid, do you not get how much money is going into this, do you not understand that this isn't a normal job, do you not think whoever has the means to do that wouldn't kill you for fucking up that bad. he escaped but legit thought he could write a note to actually come back once he spent time with his wife? is that a joke? yall are locked in a warehouse with amenities everywhere to keep yall happy because you have to be locked up. you schedule a fucking truck pickup to go work at the site. you schedule a truck to drive over explosion sites at the exact time they go off to avoid any kind of suspicion. then you're just out here running around, jumping over fences, fucking with cameras, no big deal just let me write a letter and they'll understand. poor writing all around.

The next season should be the end of the prequel stuff. If they end up wanting to do a season with Gene, by all means. Hell, have 5A wrap up the past and 5B be present day.

Jimmy is already a lawyer in Season 1 working public defender cases; he passed the bar some time before that, and they show him telling Chuck that in Chuck's office at HHM. Chuck is fine when Jimmy passes the bar, he gets sick after that.

Kim's face when he indirectly called her a sucker AND an asshole.

My wife and I were noting that Rhea Seahorn does the most amazing wordless acting on this show.

The Lalo shit was the worst writing either this or BB has ever done. Just completely laughable.

Nothing tops the overly convoluted "poison Brock to sway Jesse" run of BB. It was the most ridiculous Rube Goldberg plan that would have fallen apart if any one thing changed, and if Jesse had any other reaction at all.

Jimmy is already a lawyer (and has been for a while) when Season One starts. He's had to have had long enough to *not* get hired by HMM and to get bitter about it.

I think I must be mixing up my timelines then. We saw him working in the mail room and passing his bar. Was Chuck well in that timeline? I thought he was sick then too...

Yes Chuck is well in that part of the timeline; that's all flashback scenes. BCS starts with Jimmy as a lawyer, and any time we see him in the mail room it's any number of years in the past.

So where are the people excusing Werner's idiotic behavior/shitty writing last week. :P Turns out he's literally an idiot. This apparent construction/architecture genius doesn't actually have a functioning brain.

Good ep, good season, but this bit was just unnecessarily stupid.

The show started with Jimmy working as a public defender. There was a flashback scene where he tells Chuck he passed the Bar exam. I guess this flashback was after that one, but before he was sworn in.

Brilliant technical people do stupid shit all the time; that WAS a little over the top however as it doesn't quite add up to hatch such an elaborate escape plan but also think you'd be able to waltz right back in. Also a little over the top how he was able to tell his wife exactly what to do during monitored phone calls.

The whole thing was a little off but still fun.

It's possible he may not have fully understood the sort of people he was working for. Like he asked to talk to Mr. Fring, as if he'd be the sort to understand. He was aware it was criminal, but not necessarily that it was a cartel operation, or how ruthless these people were.

I suspect he may have been bullshitting about coming back.

I was disappointed in the fact that Nacho was absent this episode, because the way his storyline concluded this season (in the last episode), well, it felt like it just died with a whimper.

I think the writers knew they had a whole other season after this one to flesh out everything involving Nacho. I like that they decided to basically transform Mike and Jimmy into the characters we know from Breaking Bad, and not write some half-assed arc with Nacho that felt rushed.

He most certainly didn't understand fully who he was working for.

He didn't realize the full gravity of the situation until he noted the finality in Mike's voice coupled with his secluded and barren surroundings.

It was a fantastic and heartbreaking scene.

Question - Why was Jimmy on the HHM board doing scholarship votes? Did I miss where he suddenly works there or something? lol

for me it was that his letter revealed that he wasn't just dipping out for good he actually intended to come back and finish the project after seeing his wife. what a fucking moron. if he just decided to say fuck it and leave for good then macgyvering his way out makes sense. he actually thought they'd let him come back and finish the job though. dude actually wanted to explain himself to gus. mike should have slapped him across the face before killing him for being a big dumb idiot.

Mike already had a sit down with him that basically spelled everything out. he's just written like a big dumb idiot who lacks any kind of observational skills or logic.

I completely agree. Perfect excuse to potentially bring Jesse into the fray in the final season. Or a grown up Kristy Esposito, after she's taken Jimmy's advice to essentially be selfish, fuck everyone else, and cut corners to get to the top. Or even bring Kim in.

In the first or second episode of the season when Howard is taking care of the will, I believe he mentions that Jimmy will get Chuck's seat of the committee for the scholarship.

Each season of Better Call Saul is an excuse to show Rhea Seehorn acting. It was so heartbreaking to see her getting conned by Jimmy and putting up with his shit. I thought this show would bring us to like and understand why Saul Goodman is who he is, but seeing suffer while he is manipulating everyone made me think he is absolutely no better than Walt. Fuck him.

People are comparing Jimmy showing his true colors around Kim to a couple who are comfortable enough to fart in front of each other. There were no actual fart jokes unless I missed something.

Ha, that makes sense. Just saw farts being mentioned a couple of times and was a bit worried.

BCS season finales have traditionally been a bit underwhelming.

That last scene was pure genius. Jimmy had me by hook and crook. My heart dropped when he spoke to Kim. She looked completely dejected. This is it then. Saul is here.

The entire irony of the situation is that Chuck was right all along. Jimmy is just a chimp with a machine gun but now he has a law degree. Using Chuck to get his law licence back is like a slap in the face to Chuck, Jimmy's way of screwing over his brother one last time.

Sorry to debbie downer but season went by and I just didn't think it was very good. Ep 9 was good and there are some moments in the season but overall, meh. Didn't care for the characters, Mike's part was boring, Jimmy is coasting by. I think the show has to end next season proper, don't drag it out.

I seriously didn't expect myself to believe all of what Jimmy said during the hearing. Really made me angry and more angry watching Kim's face expressions just going down the tubes. Slippin' Jimmy literally played us viewers like a damn fiddle.

I think we'll get one more pre-BrBa season and then the final season will be in Gene's timeline with flashbacks to events during the BrBa timeline.
