Do side quests.

Don't let the main story necessarily dictate which islands you go to next.
Yes, they don't want you to skip all beautiful stuff they created and just focus on main parts. There are lot of cool stuff that players should explore.

Problem iam facing is more related to resources. I'm really struggling to get enough to upgrade my ship and gear. Xp and credits not an issue at all.

Yes but only because of the setting and kassandra. I'm finding the quests to be just as dull and simplistic as Origins so far and the dialogue options have been completely pointless up to now.
No, there are many quests with drastic outcomes based on your decisions. Nothing like this was in Origins.

There are lot of filler stuff but there are lot of good quests as well.

It's a better game than Origins in every way including quests .

Should just not really do the message board stuff beyond the daily for the currency thingy. Accept the ones that are like "Kill X whatevers" because you'll get them incidentally, but anything that has you go like talk to one of them is really not all that worth it. Will get you too sidetracked and burnt out.

I'm keeping pace with or ahead of the game just doing main quests, sidequests (the ! ones) and the occassional area with a rare reward, like the tombs for ability points. Will sometimes do a full clear of a bandit camp or w/e if it coincides with other objectives, but that's about it so far.
Message board quests are for resources mainly.

Side Quests with story and choices are available in every major area from NPCs. Those can be missed as like I missed Blood Fever one

Just started playing this afternoon and I'm loving it for the most part, and I love how Kassandra is written. However, Markos has to be one of the worst side characters I've had to experience in a game recently. Not only is his character poorly written, but the voice actor cannot deliver lines worth a damn. Also for some reason the way lines of dialogue flow into each other is kind of jarring at times which really takes me out of the game when I notice it. And yeah, as noted earlier that audio, whoof. For a second I thought my sound bar was broken.

So you don't see the drastic improvement in writing, cinematic direction, NPCs, dialouge options, choices compared to Origins? Heck some elements aren't even present in Origins to the point i wouldn't even call them an improvement.
Every Quest in Odyssey is wrapped up with a confrontation with the quest giver, in Origins you do the target and bam quest done.
Odyssey has much more interesting stories by a country mile too.

I know I have a lot to see still but so far out of 3 regions I haven't seen a single good quest yet. It's been as basic as it gets.

So far no not really. Going back to the NPC so they can say 2 sentences isn't enough of an improvement for me to notice. Dialogue choices have mostly been like witcher 3 but with even less writing in most of the white exposition choices, another case where the NPCs usually say a couple sentences (mostly directions for exploration mode people). The majority of actual side quests I've done have been go to a spot and grab something or kill someone and then run back. These are the actual diamond shape side quests on the map too not notice board or timed quests.

I find myself spending hours just wandering. I'm clearing a lot of points of interest without really diving into any quests of any kind. The game is so absolutely stunning, I walked out of the Cave of Kratos and legit was stunned at how the biome landscape shifted.

Even if it feels like more of the same, the way this team crafted Greece is visually a marvel. I'm in no rush to finish the game or level, or do anything really. I'm enjoying just walking around from one point of interest to the next - doing repetitive looting and killing guards, but like Origins I shall pace it over months.

It is kind of annoying. What's even weirder is that my Orichalcum total doesn't appear on my resources menu bar sometimes. I actually freaked out about it yesterday but it finally popped up after about 10 minutes. I think there is an online component to it, maybe your total is kept serverside or something.

I think they made it server side to avoid the hacking that occured in Origins.

Agreed. If it were just down to protagonists and settings the two games would be a wash. Oydssey improves and adds quite a bit on to Origins.

I had amassed over $20,000 in game currency, and at one point had a lot of materials from lots of hunting and collecting wood and ore. But I kept upgrading weapons I liked, and then upgraded my hull a couple of times and it decimated my stock. I ended up buying each blacksmith's stock of wood, ore and skins whenever I'd go visit one to sell all of my loot, weapons and armor, and that helped. Sure, it cost close to $13,000 including some upgrades, but my hull is upgraded 3 times and I can easily get more money. I'm already back over 10K.

That giant boar in phokis was a fun fight.

It was and wasn't for me. I was level 13 and so was it, despite trying to over level. It took a while to chip away its health, even with poison and flaming attacks, and special arrows. The mini boars were annoying. But beating it on my first try was satisfying.

Ah, I was LV16 on my end, so Overpower attack really helped with chipping away at its health faster. But yeah, got it on my first try also, fun fight.

We don't get games like this very often, like to say Witcher 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition are the only ones with comparable sidequest typology in recent memory. Odyssey is head and shoulders over everything comparable minus TW3, which writing is maybe still a little more dense and robust. Odyssey for me is roughly the same level as TW3 regarding quests (use witcher senses and most of them did end in combat).
But honestly what do you expect from sidequests? Any prime example of a game that does it right in your opinion? Just for curiosity..

I started dismantling, but then sold everything after the beginning, to earn money. Maybe I should go back to dismantling?

Ah, makes sense.

How'd you level up so fast? I'm doing lots of side and bounty quests, but am leveling very slowly. 11-16 in 7 hours.

Am LV18 now but I'm just doing my usual, clearing a landmass of its ? marks + some bounties here and there, nothing else honestly.

Can you turn off level scaling? Not a fan of that mechanics. Origins doesn't have it by default.

Unfortunately not, but there is a vague possibility an option to disable it will be added with a future patch. It really should be something players can opt for at the very beginning of the game and change later via the options menu a la difficulty level and game mode. I can understand disliking Origins because chewing through the side content made you overleveled and trivialised most enemy encounters, but I side with those who feel that the level scaling negates much of the point of levelling up.

So I saved the sick family at the beginning. I feel like that may have been the wrong choice. I just didn't like how blood-thirsty the priest seemed. What's gonna happen now?

Now you've gone and done it! The sick family spread their disease and muck on all the other inslanders who proceed to eat each other. The island then sinks. Those poor people.

I've now officially started this game three times. Once as Alexios, playing up until the Odysseus Palace quest before deciding to try Kassandra. Managed to take her all the way off the island just in time for me to get an invite into Project Stream where I started up the game again as Kassandra. By now, I know Kephallonia like the back of my hand. I know which question marks are worth checking out and which are just animal lairs. I know how to make the bow lady scared of me and not treat me like garbage. I'm naturally very familiar with Zeus's stone buttocks.

I feel like a god on that miserable island.

Can't wait to leave it again.

He's joking, but

If you save the people, that family will leave the island and wind up elsewhere, in a much larger city and will spread the infection.

Unfortunately not, but there is a vague possibility the option to do so will be patched in. It really should be something players can opt for at the very beginning of the game a la Exploration Mode.

I saw that Tweet and then made sure to politely point out to them I wanted an option to cut off scaling as well. I didn't want to be a dick, but I also figured the more people made it known they weren't fans the more likely they'd try to add that as an option. If I got some kind of assurance they were going to do it, I'd actually consider not playing until it was patched in.

Damn, if they do patch it in I'm gonna be conflicted asf. Hope it'll be something you can turn on (or, well, off) in the middle of a playthrough, cause I'm not going to replay the first 10 hours anytime soon.

Man literally every video and review I watch of this game has the default UI all turned on. Looks terrible.

Yeah, it seems like it's lying, but I wonder if that choice is ever helpful? I used it when describing Kefalonia to the blind guy, and the response just made me sound like a jerk, so I'm reluctant to use it again.

Idk just do what you feel is appropriate in any context. If you're relentlessly nice even to people who don't deserve it then you're just a pushover.

What I mean is:

It seems like the game just treats Nikolaos as 'dead', for all intents and purposes, no matter which choice you actually make. If you kill him, he dies, if you don't kill him then he just goes away and is never seen again and Kassandra just tells everyone she killed him; it's the same outcome either way. Like I said, if it turns out he comes back later in the story if you let him live then that'd be something different, of course.

I played a little more tonight, and well,

I'm sure he's going to show up again, I met a character who knew Nikolaos, and said he was only pronounced dead after he disappeared and they could not find the body. Alexios then says he hasn't seen him since he was a child.

The game has an annoying tendency at least on PC to turn back on the "Tips and Messages" hude option every time I start a new session.

Oh damn, there actually are consequences that go far to the future. Or at least that's what the NPC implied. Minor cultist spoilers:
seems like killing the Monger in public wasn't the smartest choice.
. So much for the load screen hints promising that you can try different choices by reloading :lol
