and here's Robert Pershing Wadlow, the tallest man to ever live (that we know of at least), he was 8 ft 11 the last time he was measured :

Weird they treated this story as some mystery when there's been so many documented cases of it, I was actually waiting for a mention of Andre that never came since he's probably the most famous example. Basically a more extreme in case of Andre the Giant's gigantism that will probably also lead to acromegaly though it might already. Same deal with the Great Khali though he had surgery some time back to stop it and Big Show too who I think had his done in the early 90s which is why he's in so much better shape health wise, especially now after he got himself in probably the best shape he's been in since the early/mid-90s.

Guy is 7'8''. Expected him to be a bit taller.

Crazy that Yao Ming is 7'6'' and somehow had the coordination to be a great basketball player.
Was Yao Ming's height caused by a tumor pressing on his pituitary gland?

EDIT: I remember when I first saw Robert Wadlow in a Guinness Book of World Records when I was a kid, ridiculous like someone on slits and considering how thin he was his legs were probably like tooth picks which is probably the reason for the cane despite how young he was.

I passively knew Neil Fingleton, the UK-born basketball player turned actor, who sadly died last year. I'd regularly see him around town and we used to go to the same restaurants/bars. He was 7'7" and it was always surprising when you'd see him. He was a basketball talent in high school because of his height, but by the time he was in college he was just too slow to make enough of an impact on the court.. Much shorter guys would get up and down the court quicker than him. He was recruited by UNC but ended up transferring to a smaller D1 school, Holy Cross, where he played a couple years but mostly off the bench. I think he played in the Tournament in those early ~2002, 2003 Holy Cross teams that started the tradition of Patriot League teams making an impact in the Tournament. He ended up transitioning into an acting career, and famously starred as one of the giants in Game of Thrones, as well as some smaller roles in action movies. Sadly, he died last year... would be in his later mid-to-late 30s.

Angus MacAskill was 7'9 and didn't even suffer from pathological gigantism

And to my knowledge he was still growing when he died. An old show store used to have a statue of his size 32 shoe. I believe it was 32. Like 9 or so sizes bigger than shaq.

He had to use the cane because the rate of his growth demolished his body. Also, he was well over 400lbs, despite looking very lanky.

I'd recommend people in this thread watch the latest documentary on Andre the Giant that was released either this year or in 2017. It puts it into perspective how he'd try to get away from the spotlight but unlike other "normal" celebrities, he couldn't just put on a hat and sunglasses to hide. Really sad story.

How strong is this guy ?
Could he hit the gym?

I imagine that scene from prometheus where the big engineer alien starts throwing people around

From that thumbnail, he's the first 'massive dude' that looks like a normal dude just scaled way up. Proportions feel normal.

(EDIT)
Watching, and his face is definitely strange. Sad story.

These stories always make me sad... yeah he's the tallest guy in the world, but the dude probably has a bunch of health issues and is suffering. I always felt like putting a glorious label on it like "Worlds most xxx thing" is taking away from the fact that he has a real condition he struggles with on a daily basis.

a parallel universe
This was a touching story.

One of my relatives on my fathers side, my like great great uncle, was actually taller than this guy and was properly proportioned.

I think he's in guiness as the largest man in recorded history without any growth deformities of any kind.

Man, that was really sad to watch. So many small things that most of us take for granted are all major hindrances or challenges to him

Yeah and both Gheorghe Mureșan and Manute Bol were 7'7" and played in the NBA. Neither as skilled as Yao Ming. Usually players that size have short careers due to injury.

Shawn Bradley was also a 7'6" player.

Yeah, I remember watching Muresan and Bradley play. Both were extremely stiff with all that height, but were good enough to be a presence.

Yao Ming is the only giant I recall that was graceful at that size. Total freak of nature.

Interesting fact about Robert Wadlow that people don't know is that as a teenager he could lift his 6 foot tall father in his chair and carry him up a flight of stairs like it was nothing.
His gigantism condition also gave him near superhuman strength. If he wasn't ravaged by his condition he might have easily been one of the strongest human who ever lived without the benefit of working out and lifting.
