Just kind of an aside, I kind of realized this watching the xCloud trailer, I'm probably out with physical consoles.

I just can't see myself dropping another $400-$500 on a PS5/XB2 if this streaming service works well enough. My area has fiber optic already too.

I still play quite a bit but I'm getting older and I don't play as much as I used to nor am I going to be entering some kind of professional fighting game tournament. As long as this service can run these games decently, it's hard for me to justify buying another console. I just want access to the "main" big 3rd party games and a decent assortment of 1st party games.

This may be the first gen since the SNES days that I don't have either a Sony or MS console. I will still buy a Switch successor/revision/whatever because Nintendo is unlikely to have a streaming service, but I think that is going to be the only physical gaming hardware in my house going for the next gen.

Wonder if anyone else is in the same boat or considering it.

It doesn't work well enough.. Have you tried it?

I'm upgrading to fiber optic in about a month, that should be OK for a service like this. I'm not gonna freak out over a little lag, like I said I'm not a competitive fighting game tournament player or something.

I've also heard from others on this board that the Nvidia streaming service is quite good and perfectly playable.

I'll stick with a dedicated hardware for now, but I can absolutely see myself buying a dedicated streaming device so that I can play my games anywhere in the house.

It sounds like you're the target demographic then. That said I'm also "getting older" (isn't everything?) and I'll definitely be buying the proper consoles next gen.

Lots of unknown factors for me to be making any decisions like that yet. If I'm going to be sitting in front of my PC or TV to play anyway (phone strapped to a controller or touchscreen controls aren't for me, and I've tried), I'd rather have a tangible console. Genuinely curious about the service though.

I don't see myself buying a PS5 or XB2 either, but it's because I'll be on PC.

The streaming stuff hasn't sold me at all. I don't really see any advantage over locally-rendered game other than slight convenience. There are compromises made on latency and compression.

I don't mind buying some hardware if it means I can have a better experience.

Hahahha fuck no especially since you don't even know how well it actually works. Physical for life!

Sure, I mean who knows, let's wait and see how the actual services work first, right?
They are all still in development form and we don't even know their price structures or features.

It's way too early to decide anything in my opinion, but of course you can go ahead and plan your strategy now if you want.

It's going to be a feasible option for many single player games, but if you have any interest in multiplayer or any genre demanding a locked 60 FPS curb your enthusiasm.

Same here. I mean I have fiber speeds. I don't play any shooters. FIFA and SP games make up the bulk of my gaming experience now. I'm basically the target audience for this cloud stuff. No way I'm spending $500 on a console if I can get a close enough experience at $100-$150.

Talk about jumping the gun.

If they put a render farm close enough to you then go ahead. There won't be one near me so there's no reason for me to care about game streaming personally.

It's not going to be anything special and it's going to be a long way from being reliable enough like a console especially with internet speeds and data caps being the way they are. It's a terrible idea to go streaming from any company.

U don't even know how well it works and u made ur decision ? That is odd . U keep assuming if u get fiber optics it's fine but truth is something else .

And if u can't afford 400$ then put it on visa and turn it into 12 months monthly payment .I promise u it will be much cheaper after 5 years .

I'm someone who likes a variety of things to play but doesn't play that often so I would definitely be willing to consider it. Ultimately it depends on how tolerable the latency is and what consoles offer besides better IQ. And the price of course.

I'm keen to give it a go, but being in Australia (even with a high quality connection) I'm very sceptical whether it will be worth it.

I'm willing to try it out and maybe play something on it, but I'm still going to have a console.

Well see how xCloud is. I'm never going to use it with my mobile data cap though.

lmao...... god no! I don't have any data caps and man, I would never ever use that cloud thingy as my main gaming "platform". So nah, no thanks.

It's a bit early to be deciding that, isn't it OP? At least wait to see a live demo.

I mean I played Catherine on PS Now and it worked well enough but I vastly prefer Disc or DD. Next gen I see myself going majority download if not all.

I've heard lots of people say the Nvidia streaming service is quite good and very usable.

If MS or Google can match/exceed that, I'm pretty much in.

Turning 30 next week and boy were I wrong 10 years ago that I will never stop console gaming

Had gen8 for 2-3 months but sold it again, becoming more and more casual. I watch twitch some hour every night (grubby wc3) and actually looking forward to getting a galaxy s9+ in a week for some casual mobile gaming.

That said, cant see what gen9 would offer to lure me back in. Perhaps a Premium switch (aka premium phone standards at 599 but that wont happen)

I absolutely Hate subscription models so guess streaming is out of the question for me

I would never go fully streaming as of now but I would definitely want to try it. But I am skeptical, even streaming from PS4 to PC is noticable in lag and image quality (all wired).
