but it really shouldn't be in a work-in-progress state, the thing launches in two months you can only do so much touch up at this stage of development
The use of beta has folks fooled. They should really call them demos, because there is often time no way to fix something is really broken without delaying the game

Just passing along the sentiment that was communicated to her at the event. We'll see for ourselves how things shake out at launch. I assume, like the rest of you seem to assume, that there will very likely be so launch / growing-pains.

Is there even any hype for this game? I don't see how you can get out more than one month of playtime with friends out of this game.

I see what you mean now. Well, this never really looked like the game for me...

If this is the way going forward, then that's it for me and Bethesda games.
Starfeild is coming, ES6 is coming and Fallout 5 is coming(in 15 years). Bethesda single player games aren't going anywhere. This is a side project from an mp studio that was tasked with creating a possible mp mode for fallout 4.

Your original post wasn't "this small part in a 50 minute video looks like last gen lighting". Your original post claimed that the game has last gen lighting. Which it demonstrably doesn't.

Actor lighting is terrible throughout the video (check the ghouls and objects around the 35 minute mark). Also the nighttime segment is laughably bad.
I mean... I don't really have a horse in this fight - I knew I wasn't going to buy F76 right when they announced it at E3, so if it looks great or terrible, it doesn't affect me in any way.
Also I'm guessing you're gonna play it for other things than eyecandy graphics? So just accept that people have different opinions from you and move on.

I really like the way the world looks (I'm thinking of the golf course and giant mansion). It's a damn shame the quests seem to suck, performance is awful, and the game seems lifeless. What were they thinking?

I don't think any number of journalists flooding the servers can compete with retail launch amount of people playing at the same time. On the visuals side, it doesn't look that different from F4, textures were as rough as they are in 76, and animation just as janky as ever with Bethesda. Indoors lighting is really fucked up though.

Anyway, my main grip with this game comes to mod support. I don't expect it to be really great, given the multiplayer aspect of the title. A Bethesda game without heavily scripted mods has no appeal to me.

I'm not gonna play it. I'm just pointing out how absolutely ludicrous the idea that this in any way resembles "previous gen lighting" is.

That this would be an easy moneymaker for them. Probably took a far smaller budget than Fallout 4 did.

Seems to me like 76 will be Bethesda's version of ME:Andromeda :)
In that people seemingly get pleasure out of shitting on it? Absolutely.

To you. Fair enough. I don't have a problem with people having different impressions. You seem to be unable to accept the concept.
Stop inventing a narrative. Again, I'm not arguing against your impressions. You can think it looks terrible all you want. It's the specific notion that it looks like last gen lighting that I'm pointing out is factually incorrect. I don't know how many more times I have to repeat myself before this idea sticks.

Would an Fallout reskin of ESO been too much?
Having enjoyed and played hundreds hours of ESO this seems more interesting to me. It's a survival game that has more enemies, quests, crafting, character building than any that have come before set in the fallout universe in a Bethesda created world. It was always going to be a hard sell for this franchise but I'm glad they are trying it. If it fails it fails it didn't replace fallout 5.

Looks like a stuttery mess, and the idea of every human being a real person sounds interesting until you start your fiftieth side quest by reading yet another computer. Hopefully they keep things exciting with world events, and the chance of running across someone's settlement sounds really neat.

It's a trial run, not a one and done situation regardless of which studio is doing what. I know that those game are coming (next gen) but if the game is successful and considering the landscape is going to be different in 4 years+ when the first of those games come out, there's every possibility things could carry over. I would treat it as a certainty almost that some of these online features will be there, if not the core design.

MMO's aren't really the thing to hitch your wagon to anymore. The one's that exist are doing fine, but people are more interested in Battle Royale and survival games these days.
I wouldn't call ESO a MMO. I like to think it is singleplayer game with constant content generation

Typical Bethesda jank.

Edit: I'm strangely excited for the game, should be a blast with friends (when it works).

Jesus Christ on a pogo stick.
Yes, I think it absolutely looks like previous gen in many segments.
I gathered you don't and that's fine. You can throw around words like "factually incorrect" all you want and throw as many temper tantrums as you want, it will still. be. just. your. goddamn. personal. opinion.

God, this watching this is just so goddamn depressing. This game really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, it's clearly the logical next step for Bethesda. Skyrim wasn't THAT different from this. They haven't tried to build a world or tell a story since at least Fallout 3 if not since Morrowind. The main gameplay loop of their latest games has always been: Get a quest, go into a dungeon, kill a few enemies, find loot, get quest reward. Repeat.
NPCs in their latest games have never been much more than terminals for quest rewards. And now they are just literally terminals. They've just removed the last pieces of fluff. This has been coming for years now.

Skyrim already had procedurally generated quests without any flavor to them. They already wanted to make a game that you could play forever since then. And now they have this game, which they have already said they will support "forever". And also, because it is multiplayer, no one can complain when they try to monetize it like they tried to monetize Skyrim.

They are now just upfront about it. Both Skyrim and Fallout 4 did trick me into believing they were RPGs for quite a bit of the time I had with them. You guys should seriously not expect Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 5-75 or Starfield to be anything different from what we see here.

Don't get why after all this time they apparently load too many people on the servers and have it bog down. Either incredible stupidity or an excuse.

I was cautiously optimistic about the FO76, but my interest has waned over time. First time I've ever said that about a BGS game. Thankfully this is a side project from their expansion with BattleCry; the original team in Maryland is still intact and making SP-only games. This might be something I get on sale down the road just to explore what looks to be a thoughtfully-designed game world.

Hopefully all of these free expansions they're promising down the road begin to add story quests and NPCs like what we're seeing with Sea of Thieves.

As someone who was positive to this style of game, I have to say this just looks like complete ass. Could be that the console footage is from a horribly unoptimized build, but I'm surprised that they're even showing it to the public in this state. The E3 videos looks a lot better, but that was obviously footage created by Beth internally.

They still have a few weeks to get things into shape. I really hope they do.

Looks pretty fun imo. Never completely sure why ERA seems to hate this game so much in particular.

I actually still harbor some hope that they'll try to reinvent their formula with Starfield - new engine, new approach to narrative and environmental storytelling, better writing and player agency systems and all that jazz.

...yeah. Probably not gonna happen, but I still believe.

Lots a lot like Fallout 4... for better or worse. Lots of repeated assets.

Will be fun I'm sure, but I'm sad to see that we will have to wait for an (eventual) inventory sorting mod like we did with Fallout 4 to get proper sorting. ;(

Interesting.

Watching the Gamespot one now.

One thing that immediately jumped out to me, was that the iconic moment of "First stepping into the open world," something that Bethesda mastered with Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, was instantly ruined by people in jump suits popping up in front of you immediately.

Fallout 3 and 4 masterfully have you step out of the Vault, and you get blinded by light, and then all of a sudden the vast expanse of the apocalyptic future is in front of you, with clear visual keymarkers for where to go or where your journey will take you. In FO3, it's the Washington Monument and National Mall, you just know you have to get there eventually. In FO4, it's downtown Boston and the expanse around it. New Vegas doesn't do this immediately but it does it fairly quickly when an early quest takes you to the top of a hill and you see New Vegas in the distance.

In Fallout 76 they almost give you that and then ... some damn blue suited nincolmpoop pops up in your view immediately.
