I don't actually hate what I'm seeing, it looks like a heavily tweaked FO4.

But any positivity I'm feeling is tainted by the nagging question: "What if someone kills me in the middle of this fight?" "What if all of these enemies are already dead by the time I get here?" "What if someone else fucks this up?"

This really should have been a co-op game as opposed to a shared world, if Bethesda was determined to try out MP.

Didn't read the whole thread but the consensus seems to be that it didn't look so hot. After the way Bethesda broke my heart with this game I'm honestly kinda happy. Would love to see this game backfire and Hines smug ass get humbled on some level.

Wow, performance looks bad. I hope the BETA is more refined.

Holy shit this is the ugliest AAA developer game I've seen in quite a while. This looks really really bad.

Oh man, something about the sound of cicadas in this as background noise is really doing it for me.

Those lil fuckers are everywhere out here during the summer. Its the sound of the season.

Not really a big fan of them when they're here but when they're gone, its kind of oddly comforting to hear them now.

I'm not sure if it's been addressed yet, but for those of you worried about how rough / stuttery appears, my writer who attended the event noted that the developers basically flooded the servers for the sake of this media preview, and that everything is obviously in a very WIP state, which resulted in the performance issues. They noted that the footage / performance was not representative of what we should expect at launch (for what that's worth).

Maybe. But honestly, it's hard to tell from that video what is a bug and what is working as intended.

Yep, I did. It still looks very subpar. Maybe not as bad as that interior lighting, but pretty shit nonetheless.
It doesn't though. It looks on par or even slightly improvement from Fallout 4, which has pretty decent lighting by all accounts.

The general consensus between the people who actually played it are quite different from people who have watched it running at 4k on an xbox.

Well that was stupid, lol.

$$$

I'm not expecting the game to be a looker or anything but no doubt it will look and run much better on PC. Hell probably runs better on console in 1080p.

The actual 4k gamespot vid looks a lot cleaner asset wise and has a lot less stutter than that first vid (still has tons of drops from what it looks like tho). Looks like it would be fun with friends, but I don't think this one's for me.

looks to me like they edited out the worst spots that lagged due to other players being around. just my impression.

I would bet any amount of money that the final game will have the exact same framerate issues, at least on consoles.

I mean what do people expect, they threw a game type into an engine that flat out doesn't support something that large and that intensive with that many variables. they can't get their Baseline RPGs where they have things that they can set up to run and not need to worry about anything procedural or player generated. This is This is going to be an absolute tire fire from a technical perspective.

Sure, I'll wait on release gameplay, but these are my first impressions from seeing what they put out today.
I mean that's the point of these previews, to make a first impression, isn't it? And it's not good in my case, that's all.

You know in retrospect I think Runescape but Fallout would have been a better fit.

I'm not talking about your impressions, or whether or not it looks good or bad. I'm talking about the inane comparison with last gen. This looks literally nothing like lighting did last gen.

"flooded the servers"?

You think there will be fewer people playing at launch than journalists playing that day?

And this is all Xbox One X footage?

I shudder to think of the shitty optimization job Bethesda will do for the PS4 Pro. I expect them to fart on that version and call it a day.

Yeah, and beyond a tiny team at most from BGS, I don't believe this marketing. I say that as a huge Bethesda fan boy too. I love them, but I know they're prone to a lot of marketing bs.

Same here.

I bet Starfield is much further along than they are letting on too. Which honestly is great news if that's the case.

We'll see with this game. After E3 I was more excited but a more empty Fallout 4 with very simplistic quests(based on these impressions) doesn't sound all that great. That game world really has be to quite something to explore for me to truly enjoy this, probably.

I mean, Fallout 4 barely ran at many points, and now they're shoving a far far larger, far more technically intensive game into that framework.

This is gonna launch just as broken as most other survival games. If they wanted to make a "AAA" survival game they should have just done that from the ground up. Not tried to shove a square peg in a round hole.

Doesnt make any sense to overload the server with journalists if they were allowed to record footage of poor performance.

I refuse to believe a PR person said "Yeah this is fine, just tell the journalists it wont be like this with normal conditions."

I'm probably just being cynical but it seems like common sense that you'd want to provide a good impression.

After initially being really shocked at that first embargo breaking video... I really enjoyed the Gamepost video. It looks like Fallout 4 but multiplayer. I've got a bunch of friends who love Fallout 4 and are chomping at the bit to play this. I think we'll have a good time. Probably not one for you if you're primarily a single player gamer.

The one huge positive about this game that other games with emergent PvP need is that both players need to shoot each other to engage proper.

I got so fucking sick of dying in games like Rust because you just die out of nowhere.

I feel bad already for the likely millions of people who aren't on forums like Era and don't follow previews who will pay $60 for this thinking it's the Fallout they know and love from Todd Howard. I predict a whole lot of super negative user reviews from people who feel burned and expecting more Fallout 3/NV/4.

This game has looked disastrous from the moment we learned about what it actually is.

It looks like the perfect Bethesda game really. Same kind of jank. Instead of having a bad story and badly written NPCs, just have none of that at all. It has that "Oh chucks" 50's-ish stuff of the Fallout games that people like so much.

All you do is faff about in a Fallout-inspired world and shoot stuff and level up. It's essentially everything people enjoy about Fallout 3 and 4.

The segment around the 27:10 mark does. Whether that's a bug or not, the fact is the lighting isn't good. I don't know what to tell you.
Your original post wasn't "this small part in a 50 minute video looks like last gen lighting". Your original post claimed that the game has last gen lighting. Which it demonstrably doesn't.

but it really shouldn't be in a work-in-progress state, the thing launches in two months you can only do so much touch up at this stage of development
