For sure, Children's birthdays under the age of 3 mostly aren't for the kid. They're for the parents and you get gifts that the parents want, for the kid.

If they want to have a drink or two with friends over(Because none of the kids there are the child's friends at that point), that's up to them, and more often than not, it's the case.

Don't get fucking shitfaced and play drinking games, this is "I'll have a beer/glass of wine" territory.

There's no issue at all.

I've been to a number of parties for kids in the last couple years and there was plenty of alcohol for the adults. People saying it's not good to expose kids to alcohol are reaching. They'll see it everywhere else, like other family events, in their own home and out when they're eating with family. Responsible adults drink responsibly, especially at a party for kids.

My understanding is that kid's parties is how people over the age of 30 make friends.

So I guess there better be booze there.

Dad here and it's absolutely necessary to have beer and alcohol for the adults. It keeps us sane.

When I was a kid everytime my parents threw me a birthday party, there were adults invited and there was alcohol.
Same for pretty much every other party I went where there were adults.

Absolutely. It was my daughter's 2 year bday and I needed the drink. Make sure to have non alcoholic beer for the kids.

It's party for the kids, adults can party another time. It's not a huge deal to drink few beers though. But still, have some self-discipline. As long as anybody isn't getting proper intoxicated, I don't think it will be harmful.

i'm just kind of amazed that parents hang around at kids birthday parties instead of just dropping them off at the start and picking them up at the end.

Yes, normal and expected. The first few years, the parties are more for the parents anyway.

Any party where the kids are still shitting their pants is for the adults.

I thought it would be alcohol for the kids, which is a big no in my opinion. If it's only for adults then go ahead!

Just threw my daughters 5th birthday party. Built a sick splash pad for the kiddos with a giant unicorn sprinkler at the center. For the adults, a massive cooler full of beer. The party was a hit.

The key is knowing your audience. If it's mainly pious family and rando neighbors, then I keep it low key with a La Croix cooler and cupcakes. But when it's our main group of "fun" friends I make sure there is a little bit of fun for everyone, i.e beer and yardgames.

I don't really understand the line of thinking for this thread. The kids aren't going to be drinking it and I doubt anyone is going there to get shitfaced.

I was at my nephews 2nd birthday party a few years ago and one guy got so drunk he decided to take a slash while talked to me. In the garden. While we were both sitting down. Needless to say he was asked to leave pretty quickly after that. He apologised to the mother and father (and grandparents - he was marrying into the family) however the guy is an idiot oh does stupid things while drunk. Still does.

That hasn't stopped me serving beer / wine at my kids parties, people are usually smart enough to drink in moderation.

Not really into drugs but I'll do a line or 2 if offered at a kids party.

I've never been to a kid's birthday party, but now knowing intimately how other parents are feeling and functioning, whenever I do start throwing them for my daughter I will absolutely have alcohol on offer.

Seems very irresponsible. Who's going to watch the bouncy house is everyone is drunk?

The bouncy house will be full of parents after an hour.

Yep, less than 3 then the party is for the adults. Beers are totally acceptable. When we had our 1 year party for my twins, we partied like it was 1999. Making it one year with multiples is a celebration for Mom and Dad.

Dad here. Absolutely offer beer and wine at kid parties.

I usually do mai tais or tom collins too.

Funny story...I live in an area with lots of transplants, so our core group of friends is all people who have met through our babies and kids. In the early days the mom's group split in two over whether or not it was OK to drink dark beer when nursing. Half the mom's thought it was OK to drink a small glass once in a while to supposedly help with milk production, and the other half thought the idea meant they were amoral sinners and awful parents. The drinkers started meeting at the local brewery once a week, and those four all still friends six years later.

Over the past 5 years either my wife or I go to 1-2 birthday parties a month with one of our sons. I have never seen anyone drunk at a kids party that served booze. It's totally fine.

Absolutely disgraceful, the adults should be responsible for the children at the party, not there getting pissed out of their trees.

What if something terrible happens? Totally irresponsible parenting.
