Hopefully the MP game will have the same budget as their other big ones, they need to try seriously if they want to succeed.

If there is a second project in the works, a big if, it's almost certainly super early on. Sort of like how Horizon was in pre-production by a small team in 2011-2013 while most of the studio developed Shadowfall.

Killzone as a launch title to show off the power of the PS5. It'll basically be a tech demo with a story, like SF.

So is it possible Horizon 2 might be further out than we expect (i.e. 2022-2023)? I could see why Sony would want to hold off on that to give it more time to cook and so it gets its own spotlight away from the launch period.

Horizon 2 would be one hell of a launch (period) title though. Right now I fully expect Horizon 2 to be the main game in development, HZD was such a huge success I don't see why they wouldn't dive straight into the sequel.

I think Horizon 2 likely went into development immediately after the original completed. If we assume that they're building a second team, then that game would be the one that's further out. They're still hiring those 150 people and Simon was hired at the beginning of this year. So they're still putting the pieces in place for it.

4 or 5 years of dev time would seem enough for a sequel, I think. So 2021 is my guess.

Unless it's smaller in scope than Horizon, right? Like it could be a MP-centric Killzone game Sony wants pushed out for launch.

I definitely expect a new trailer there (we should see Joel in it), but i'm not sure about a release date at that point. In the case of the original game its final date was announced in February on 2013 before releasing in June. I say final date because it ended up getting delayed from its original date. That's something that Sony has been trying to avoid after criticisms they received this gen when they announce a date and then delay it. They've been doing pretty good recently as games like Spider-Man, GoW and The Lost Legacy have hit their initial release dates.
Yeah exactly. Sony have been very careful in not saying anything about tlouII release window so far.
Even with initial reveal they emphasised it's very early in development. But that was two years ago and now they are hiring testers for it.
I feel like in Dec they could announce that it's coming in May or June without specifying a specific day. For specific date, they will have a proper story trailer next year with the exact date.
This is just my gut feeling from watching their progresss of the game. But at the same time this is such an ambitious project that a delay wouldn't annoy me at the end.

Isn't SOCOM even a smaller IP than Killzone? I doubt they would bother than that.

Actually when you think about it before Killzone 2, SOCOM was bigger than Killzone during it's heyday and had a bigger online presence. However, due to declining in popularity with bad management, poor sales, and newer franchises coming in. SOCOM became MIA for a long ass time or in other words dead after the closing of Zipper Interactive.

A revival could possibly happen but who knows at this point.

I don't think Guerrilla will work on a SOCOM Game. They are a studio that is capable of developing their own IPs. There is no reason to work on the IP of another studio, especially if the other IP is not much bigger than your own.

I think Simon Larouche's team will work on either a new Killzone or a new IP.

People really love Horizon, I put about 6-8 hours into it and it just didnt click with me. I expected a tighter more precise game. It looked good but beyond that the actual side quest I found tedious and everyone you met in the villages had a lifeless glare.

But it's a game that a sequel with tighter controls and more interesting side quests can really elevate it higher for me.

Them growing to 400+ employees definitely means 2 games. My guess, a refined killzone with what they've learned from Horizon and an Horizon sequel of course.

You know what Sanji.........you right! lol

I love both SP and MP games. Despite the sneaky tactics that higher ups give out, I think the hate for MP games are in a way, overblown. They're really fun experiences and help keep that intensity going.

Wow chill out who do you think you are coming in here with your MP propaganda.

Yeah... but at the same time, Sony's had a rough time trying to make MP only games stick. Relying on a better known IP could work pretty well. I've also seen quite a lot of people asking for a new SOCOM too.

It's hard to go back and find European charts during SOCOM's prime, but in the US at least it's the biggest shooter franchise that Sony's ever had. SOCOM 2 was huge at the time, selling over 850k in its first two months in the US.

Yeah but they've had multiple failures trying to bring back Socom already.

I dunno...seems iffy, in the industry it's like you're only allowed one failure and then the IP is shelved.

I would love to see Socom, Warhawk, Killzone truly open world, and of course Horizon much much much bigger with more systems and maybe a co-op mode launched after release. Along with Gran Turismo, Everybody's golf, Dreams, and 3rd party, that should be enough MP tries for next gen really. You only need that big hit. Maybe even TLO2 will have amazing legs again.

Oh and isn't online really important for Death Stranding?

Lol, yeah they are going to have them make a SOCOM game after they let them free to make a new IP which was the studios biggest succes to date.

I think Killzone is also dead.

Seriously, the Killzone IP is just too tainted for a sequel or even a reboot.
Shadow Fall was awful but luckily it wasn't called 'Killzone 4' so technically they could just ignore it ever happened! Or still perhaps a reboot of the series (God of War Ascension was pretty bad too). Personally, I think the name 'Killzone' has always been really lame and I'd much rather Guerilla did a new FPS IP instead.

Because they changed Socom into a COD clone, which killed the franchise and pissed the fans off. I don't believe that GG are working on a Socom game. But hiring some Rainbow Six Siege guys to make a new Socom game would be awesome, because
Rainbow Six Siege plays a bit like a next-gen Socom imho.

Yeah but they've had multiple failures trying to bring back Socom already.

Their first attempt was an outsourced version of SOCOM that was riddled with bugs and frustrated the hell out of players. And the second was viewed as being too CoD-inspired. Sony completely mishandled the franchise last gen. It made no damn sense that it took five years after launch for Zipper (the creators of the franchise) to release their first entry for the PS3. It should've been a top priority for Sony given its popularity on the PS2.

Even if i don't think Guerrilla want to work on a IP they didn't create, Chris Lee has worked on SOCOM: Tactical Strike, SOCOM: Confrontation and SOCOM: Fire Team Bravo 3.

I don't really see Guerrilla making a game down to earth a la SOCOM and the market is already satured with this kind of game. I also think the most plausible thing it's the game of Simon Larouche is gonna be a sci-fi futuristic shooter is not gonna be a MP only game because Guerrilla never made a game without a solo and their offer for a UI designer with online game experience said it's for a "epic open world game" so maybe all of this is just for the Horizon sequel or the game of Simon Larouche is gonna be a open world and he has some experience with the open world because he was Game Director on Watch Dogs 2.

I don't see it as a logical possibility for GG to be working on an existing dormant Sony IP.

I feel like the odds would look something like this tbh:

New IP : 70%
New Killzone: 29%
Other IP: 1%
