What is the perfect, essential burger topping

Mayo and lettuce on a burger is an addictive combo.

The answer is bacon but a fried egg is always delicious.

Out of the choices on this poll it's Onion for sure.

Love the extra bite a bit of raw white onion adds to a burger.

Cheese. A burger without cheese is too sad for me to even think about.

Probably bacon (Though I voted cheese in the poll). A burger is really boring unless I also have bacon on it, also fried onions and cheese. I need some kind of crunch to a burger, Usually texture is more important to me than even taste.

Personally, I have to have mayonnaise, but I think for most the quintessential topping is cheese.

Not essential, but I just had a burger with fried jalapeños and damn that was awesome.

Try Tzatziki as the sauce. I like it.

Onions the GOAT veggie, but looking at that poll, I'd take egg over onions on a burger any day of the week. Too good.

Sadly, the question is "what is the essential burger topping" not "what is your favourite burger topping," so I'll have to vote for cheese on this.

Who the hell says an egg is the essential burger topping.

Don't get me wrong, a fried egg can be good on a burger, but so can onion straws and horseradish, but neither of those are the "essential burger topping."

Cheese is clearly the correct answer.

Sweet onions and a slice of pineapple on ciabatta. Top that with some smoky chipotle sauce and you've got yourself one deliciously savory burger.

White Onions. Grilled for the crunch, and sweetness before it gets caramelized. This way, it doesn't have that strong raw smell.

I think cheese is the one thing I can't do without on a burger. Next would probably be onions, mayo, bacon... etc.

Hell i just love onion, you wanna replace that patty with more onion? I'm on board.

I'm a firm believer of a hamburger must have tomato in some form in it.

It could be a slice, or a sauce of some sort, or even ketchup.

I can enjoy a burger with no cheese (cheece is preferred ofc), but many times I have found an othervise great burger lacking when there is no tomato present.

mayo on burgers is disgusting unless it's fresh (or aioli) - who wants a slimy, thick coating of oil and eggs on their burger?

I tried a lot of burgers when I was visiting the US, but I've yet to find a more perfect one than this one place next to the office I worked at.

All it was was the buns, beef cooked medium rare, some cheddar cheese and some lettuce.

It's been two years and I've still yet to eat anything more delicious than that burger, no matter how simple or complex the ones I've tried since.
