Get MHGU. It has probably like 600 hours worth of content and is not an indie game. It's my current obsession.

Is the Switch your secondary console? This may be a reason why since you can play most games on other platforms, especially if you don't value the handheld ability.

I have resorted to just look at the charting page on the eShop, which has all the good indies. There is a lot of junk, but it's similar on other platforms as well.

I haven't used it since I played Bayonetta 2 around June/July but that should change soon with The World Ends With You coming out and then Smash Ultimate

With summer vacation over my Switch isn't getting any action at the moment either.

There's still some nice stuff coming though.

I'm continuing Xenoblade 2 and it finally clicked. Such an awesome game. And I could not let Valkyria on the shelves, while playing the demo I pressed pause and went to buy it, it's so good. Not a single dust on mine.

Also, why did you buy a portable system if you still never used it that way? I know it's hybrid but… it's like buying a google home for it's Bluetooth speaker ability...

The weekly sales are bombarded by shovelware. I'm looking at it right now and there's stuff like Mummy Pinball, Gaokoa.Love.100Days, and Animal Rivals clogging up the sales page. I have no idea what in this section is actually good.
A lot in the feature tab is pretty good.

Feels like you're picking out the bad games from the sales page because they don't really stand out/flood as much as you're implying based on a quick search.

But if you're not into great games like Hollow Knight and won't try great games like Celeste because you see them as lesser games then there's probably no helping you here.

I guess wait for Smash, get Mario Party, or TWEWY?

Yeah. I'm not saying the Switch has NO good games but stuff like Fortnite and Rocket League is lost on me when my Switch sits right next to my PS4 where I could play those game's instead.

I'll play it when it hits $10 or less. I'm not the type of person to spend $20 on an indie game.
This is a really closed-minded view of games like Celeste and other small releases. They are third-party games. Don't think they are worth less because they weren't made by a major studio. Smaller companies release quality software and deserve the price they are asking.

I have no car so I'm either on campus or in my apartment. My parents live 20 hours away so I see them for major holidays and that's it.

...You don't ever have to go run errands and wait around? Or have some free time on the bus? You don't even use it at your apartment when you don't want to sit on your bed?

IDK the portability issue really seems like a personal choice you're making.

I like it as a 'quick pick up and play' arcade style machine, but once Smash hits I'll get a ton of mileage on my daily commutes.

Hopefully Animal Crossing is not far off for 2019 as well.

I just bought game #70 for my Switch recently, and I'm like you OP in that most indie games don't click with me. I have between 10-20 indie games, but that's it. The Switch is known for some as being an "indie machine," but there are a lot of really good non-indie games on the system as well.

What genres are you into? I'm sure there's plenty you just have yet to try out. If you're into RPGs for example, there's almost too much to offer with even more coming out in just the coming weeks.

I've also felt that I might have jumped on bit too fast. Bought it last christmas with Mario + Rabbids which I haven't yet finished. Borrowed BotW from a friend after new year, yet to finish that either. Should probably buy Odyssey so it would get some use again. It's a great device though. And there's great games to play, but price is admittedly bit of an issue for me too. And PC has spoiled me in many ways. Most of my time with Switch has been playing portable, that's an excellent feature.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 looks amazing but I don't know if I want to spend $60 on it. It's hard to justify it when games drop in price so quickly on other consoles while Nintendo never budges on their price.

I haven't bought a Switch game since Mario Odyssey. Kirby, Mario Tennis and Octopath were all maybes that I ended up passing on for various reasons.

The thing is, I'm fine with that, because I have a PS4 and a PC and the Switch was always going to be a secondary console. BOTW and SMO are both gonna be in my top 10 games of this generation and were honestly worth the price of a Switch all by themselves. The drought will end with Smash Bros. as that's a 100% Day 1 purchase for me.

It depends what kind of itch you're trying to scratch.

Experiences like BotW, Odyssey, and Skyrim are the exception rather than the rule. Maybe try Starlink out.

There are some back catalog ports that offer bigger experiences at better prices from Capcom and Namco Bandai. Square will be following suit soon.

Bethesda doesn't have a reason to drop the price on their games because Skyrim's only competition is BotW and Doom and Wolfenstein have very little as well.

It seems like AA productions might kick into high gear next year. In the meantime, there are indie experiences that break the mold.

Only errands I run is across the street to the grocery store. I have free time waiting for the bus but I typically finish up homework so when I get back to my apartment I can play games. I only have this one room in my apartment so I'm never not sitting on my bed.

The Switch as it is as of now, is really pure garbage.
2018 is my most disappointing year in gaming ever, since I only own a Switch (and an old PC).
The only thing I use my Switch for, is to launch Retroarch and run my old Game Boy dumps. Otherwise, I would have thrown this piece of garbage away. Seriously Nintendo, wtf is this shit? Nothing on that console that would justify a purchase.

I'm a AAA whore. The ports haven't been up to par to me. There hasn't been much big 1st party games for my liking either.

You know, it's okay to not constantly be playing every system you have.

Sometimes I went weeks without playing the Wii U (or the Wii prior) or the 360 or even the PS4 now.

You said you're waiting for Smash and Pokemon. Well, just put it away until then. It's not the end of the world.

I've seriously never cringed harder. You don't deserve a Switch.

Actively embarrassing every time I see that. What an ass backwards dismissive way of looking at things.

I'm not a fan of retro style games. The 8bit or 16bit style is overused in indie games and I'm not a fan of that look. I'm sure if you didn't like sports games I wouldn't tell you to go buy Madden.

Alright that's just a really weird excuse. I'm not going to even bother giving you a list of games. It sounds like you're determined to come up with an excuse to everything. How is it valid to make this topic when a game holding its value is a reason not to buy it for you?

Buy a case for your Switch to avoid it getting dusty. Cleaning your room is also always a good advice for this kind of problem.

Becasue I'm a college student and can't be dropping $60 on every game that looks cool?

Why do you keep conflating "8bit or 16bit" with indie? Indie is literally the whole spectrum of independent games, from puzzle games to shooters to platformers and everything in between.
