Well, I said I'd take my time but...I did the twin buster rifle Wednesday, the arms Thursday, then when I woke up this morning (off day from work thankfully) I started on the legs and 8 hours later (lunch break included), here's the PG Wing Zero.

What about the lights? Hahahahaha...well. I didn't really struggle with the wiring. It's just that the metal bits that go in the battery compartment pulled a vanishing act on me. After 30 minutes of searching I gave up on the lights and continued on. Knowing me they probably fell out of their bag somehow and my cat claimed them.

This certainly felt like a Perfect Grade kit while building it. Though some aspects I question ("So as I pray, Unlimited Screw Works", rubber red chest part whyyyy), I like how it looks. A bit bummed about not being able to get the lights working but oh well. Shit happens lol.

All in all, I'm glad to finally have this after wanting it for 16 years. And I'm lucky I waited, I know 12 year old me could never have built this XD

pNkSRgt.jpg
Wow, that looks great! Nice work. I've always wanted to work on a PG myself, but I've never put up the dough for one.

Nozomi might be considering a boxset for their 00 release. They're asking people on Facebook what they'd like to see included if they release a boxset. If you're interested hop over to Nozomi Entertainment's FB page and let them know, GundamERA.

Just watched December Sky and I really really enjoyed that.

I guess my main gripe is "Gundam outta nowhere" and the back stories being vague. But I loved the dynamic of shifting perspectives and flipping viewer expectations.

I'm also noticing a lot of overlaps of themes between what's out there and what I've created with my own Gundam idea. Maybe they're just predictable tropes but I like knowing my ideas fit right in.

What is the ettiquette of sharing fan ideas anyway? Asking... for a friend... lol.

Edit: and that music! Is it all original to the show? I'm gonna have to track down an ost or tracklist.

I suggest checking out the Thunderbolt manga because while the anime looks great and has tight pacing, they cut out a lot of small scenes that add more characterization/backstory. It is officially published by Viz in English in the US, though Zeonic scanlated the first 7 Volumes before they picked it up.

And yes, the OST was all original.

Damn I can't wait until the other volumes of Thunderbolt are released. I stopped at ZeonicScanlations last translation and can't wait to see how the story is going to progress. So we have a season 3 of Thunderbolt to look forward to but has there been any news of what's next in terms of anime for the Gundam franchise? That Line x No Ghost Gundam animation looks phenomenal. I'd love to see a Gundam show that resembles that; IBO was hit or miss for me but overall, it was a great looking show when it wanted to be. I'd liken it to DBS in terms of animation quality.

I really liked IBO. It fell in to certain tropes that I didn't particularly care for, but it (kind of?) circumvented those tropes in the later half of first season, and even more so in the second. Overall I found it to be really enjoyable.

It's one of only two Gundams I've gotten my wife to watch that she legitimately enjoyed. IBO and G-Gundam. Everything was trash or mediocre to her.

I appreciate the recommendation, but something I don't think I properly acknowledged in my other post was just how strong I was drawn by the audio/visual "jazz/opera/poetry" on display. Music aside, even just the sound of the cracking thunder during scene transitions gave off this very atmospheric, almost noir like mood to it.

So does anyone have any tips on hand-painting GunPla? I've got a couple ideas for some custom painted builds that I want to do over winter break (like a Soul Calibur 2 Yoshimitsu colored MG Shin Musha Gundam for starters!), but I've never painted a kit before. Also I have naturally shaky hands and am deathly afraid of failure, so that's a factor lmao.

I would try Tamiya spray paint on a part by part basis (cause I'm lazy). But on cheaper models at first to make sure you get the hang of delivering an even coat. And use Gundam markers for the fine details.

Anyone have a link to a Gundam Versus Discord lobby? I love the game but I'd like to hook up with fellow players and try and learn to get better.

Thanks.

Like Jackdoe suggested, tamiya spray cans if you can get them. They are pre-preped cans of model paint, dry quickly and can be used easily. Though as someone who has dabbled in them several times it can be easy to over do it. My Legilis Gundam turned out ok though. Other than that an airbrush set is what most use but I consider that quite the advanced investment. Hand painting is another option but that is quite a bit harder as you need to avoid brush streaks unless that is a look your going for.

Like you I'm afraid to screw it up so I practiced on "throw away" kits or kits I liked but not afraid if they turned out so-so.

A couple of short music videos that preview Thunderbolt Bandit Flower's OST. There are also a few new shots in there that weren't in the S2 ONAs.

ZZ Done.

+ wow this thing has a waist!
+ proportions are lovely and a huge improvement over the original.
+ all the details inside each vent and vernier are molded separately with mostly proper colors.
+ seam placement is done thoughtfully for most of the kit outside of the main weapon.
- the silver plated parts don't do much for me, and the fit in a couple places is too loose. Also lacking detail when used as the center of vents/exhausts.
- in a couple instances sprue placement is poor, with exposed surfaces needing sanding for the plated parts. Undergating is hit or miss.
- I wish they would stick to one-piece hands and not try to do the articulated shit on 1/100 kits.

Don't start with a huge kit like that for hand-painting, start with a SD or small HG kit. I would use this guide on hand-painting https://myfigurecollection.net/blog/9269.

You build the kit first, and make sure you use hobby knife and different types of sandpaper to remove the nubs http://otakurevolution.com/content/laymans-gunpla-guide-construction-guide (Just read everything in this site while you at it). This is important because the nub mark will show up on your paint job if you don't remove it properly.

You may also want to mod your kit so it easier to disassemble, this is a must for me since most parts are impossible to separate once you combined them together http://www.ghostofzeon.com/diy/assembly/easydisassemble.html

After disassembling a kit, wash it in soapy water with a toothbrush.

Don't worry about shaky hand, unlike resin or wargame painting, gunpla can be separate into little piece, and Bandai does amazing job at separately different color parts in MG kits. You can also use masking tapes, just make sure you buy the expensive Tamiya masking tape, don't use the one from 99c store or home depot.

For primer, I would use Tamiya fine surface primer light grey, don't use white or black. It is very hard to catch imperfection using white primer, and black primer is very difficult to layer light color on top of it. After priming, check and sand any imperfection, then primer again if you did some sanding.

For the actual paint itself, I would recommend Vallejo, you can thin it with water, and IMO it is better than tamiya for hand-painting, again if you followed the guide, you need to thin it at least 50/50 and use 7 to 10 layers for light colors. Don't use a kit with a lot of white in your first kit, it is a pain and test of patience.

You will also need protection coats after every color, that way if you screw up, you can wash away the mistake with alcohol without harming your previous paint job. For protection coat just use pledge floor finish, yes the floor finish you use on your bathroom, you can hand brush and airbrush that, there are nothing else better and cheaper than this.

Seal your kit with pledge floor finish, then panel wash (don't use marker, use Tamiya Panel Line Accent), seal the kit again with pledge, then use Tamiya spray can for top coats when you are done with your paint job. So it look a bit like this:

Primer (Tamiya Fine Surface)
Base Color
Pledge Floor Finish
Secondary Color
Pledge Floor Finish
Detailing
Pledge Floor Finish
Panel Line
Pledge Floor Finish
Waterslide Decal
Pledge Floor Finish
Top Coat.

After all that you should consider buying an airbrush, it is a lot cheaper and faster in long term compare to spray can.

Shit, time to buy up those kits. DM kits are amazing, it is hard going back to bandai after making some DM kits. Just look at this:

Thanks so much for the tips! I wasn't aware of Vallejo paints before, but they definitely look pretty good considering the price. Also, I read through most of that blog. Definitely helpful stuff in there.

I think I'm going to just work on some straight builds until I can afford an airbrush, though. The more I look into it, the more worth it it seems.

I didn't know that the director of the Battlefield Record 0081 short went on to do Thunderbolt. I can see some of the similarities in style now.

Finished IBO today.. Just wow. The last 10 or so episodes made me sick, I've never been more emotionally invested in a piece of media. I think It's going to take me a few days to get over how everything ended.

This is easily my favorite Gundam and it's among my favorite anime/shows period.

Got a MG Jesta and RG Gundam MK II from Hobbytown today. Both are kits I've wanted for a while so pretty stoked. I'll finally have time to build agin too.

Hello GundamEra, I have been a Gundam fan since 2011 purely by accident.

Wanting to try a Dynasty Warriors game I bought a cheap copy of Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2.
By the time I got to the three way conflict between AEUG, Titans and NeoZeon in story mode I wasn't understanding who was a friend and who was a foe.
I decided to check the original anime that was being streamed on YouTube by Gundam.info and I became instantly hooked.
I binge watched the 92 episodes (no Cucuruz Doan) of Gundam and Zeta Gundam in just three days.
Soon after, I was buying my first gunpla kits and my backlog has only grown ever since (I am too weak to resist high discounts).

I build slowly to relax on weekends and spend far too much time on panel lines even though 99% of my builds are OOB that I don't even flatcoat.

It's one of my favorite stories and endings in Gundam. Generally in most of the franchise, particularly the UC stuff the "right" side is left muddy because both are wrong. In IBO the ending is left up to interpretation which I thought was cool. Some hate it for the obvious reasons but I enjoyed "think what you want" ness of it all.

Oh yeah, so here in Japan the bigger department stores aka ones not in my country ass city, have actual displays for the Gunpla and samples so people have an idea of what they are buying, and most likely to entice those of us who already do and are just browsing. Even have smaples of what they look like panel lined or not and painted or not which was neat.

PAyycSr.jpg

Most are just the built kits but this one was pretty cool imo. Guess the person in charge of this section is a fan of G lol.

IBO was the rare two-part Gundam show that actually improved in its second season (and improved by a lot).

And some pics of the RG Banshee. Like the Unicorn it will have two seperate boxarts, one being a Premium Unicorn Mode box.

  • The Banshee Norn's distinctive navy blue coloring is perfectly reproduced in Real Grade colors. The blue will be divided into three dark blue plastic molds.
  • It also includes precise moldings of the head antennas; a movable type, and two fixed types for your options when transforming it to Unicorn Mode and NT-D mode.
  • Armed Armor XC is produced with entirely new molds. Partial clear parts are provided to adopt the psycho frame exposure during the Destroy Mode.
  • Armed Armor DE is also reproduced with new parts. A locking mechanism is installed in the deployment gimmick part, and the stability in the Unicorn Mode is also improved to avoid weight issues.
