Vennie sequel will be a hell of a lot better without the absolute garbage exposition that ruined the first flick

Glad ppl showed the fuck up tho. Wish we'd see him enter the MCU

Venom isn't going to make anywhere near as much money as any of the Spidey film. It was like one of the first posts but every other Spidey movie had a bigger opening weekend. And Homecoming is the second biggest opening weekend and highest grossing Spidey movie and all that money goes to Sony.

All dat Venom money goes to Sony as well. It's most likely just a Sony pride thing from the Sony execs that they can make successful Spidey films without the MCU.

Yeah that's not how it works. Gold star though.

Lol, you are actually making this arguement in the same year we're getting 2 non MCU Spidey films. Sony doesn't care that they'll make more money with a MCU Spidey film. Their first fuck MCU Spidey film had a 80m opening weekend. Into the Spider-Verse should do a lot better critically than Venom. If anything this a win-win for them since they have 3 films they get money from instead of just one they would get from the MCU released one.

Disney should have just gave Sony the 4 or 5 billion they wanted for the Spidey rights.
Now we're gonna get the greenlight on a Venom trilogy and Spider-Man character spinoffs without Spider-Man. Oh joy.

I really don't see Sony ending it's MCU deal and staring a 3rd standalone Spiderman / Venom universe having to probably look for a new actor to play Spiderman with also losing out on having MCU characters in their movie. Having 3 tent pole Spiderman Universe (MCU Spider man Animated movie and Venom universe) is the way to go.

We should be more worried about Comcast buying Sony Pictures and getting their hands on Spidey
I'm all in on Universal/Sony Pictures merging.
Creates a solid #2 behind Disney and a monstrous TV side.

For those saying that the deal will be extended. Disney needs the deal less than Sony does. That is time they can focus on all of the new properties that they are gaining.

Sony on the other hand have their hands tied with regard to movie decisions and if they can create their own successful universe and FFH still can't crack $1bn, it's just easier for them to do their own thing.

Seeing What Women Want on that list makes me want to burn Paramount to the ground. And Mel Gibson.

Ugh. Didn't want the movie to do well but it's not far off from my BO prediction (mine was $78 million)

That Russia number is pretty impressive given the exchange rates over there. Infinity War opened to 18M in Russia.

Only if they give me Spider-Man 2099.

One day someone on the Spider-Man side will hear me. One day.

... Or WB with Batman Beyond. If I have to memoryman this into existence, I will.

I thought for sure Star is Born would do better than Venom, wonder if the numbers will flip around over time? Gonna go see Venom today and Star is Born later this week, maybe (A-List).

The last 2-3 months have been super weak movie wise, at least for me. At least next week has Bad Times at El Royale, hope thats at least fun to watch.

A star is born will probably have better longer term holds, but in comparison it's pretty limited (and regional) in its appeal and has opened half as high. I don't see them flipping except when thesifference amounts to relative pocket change.

Now release the Hardy Cut in theaters and see Sony swim in $100 bills.

Sony would be foolish not to release a directors/hardy (to BR/Digital) cut as people are already in love with the film, bad as it is! A Hardy cut when lead to a narrative of 'if you didn't like it theDC cut foxes it!' Like with BvS but there's not near unanimous loathing atplay

Doesn't universal technically still hold the rights to the Hulk?

Pretty much expecting a repeat of ASM2 (or MoS >>> BvS) to play out here now that Sony's gamble in Venom lucked out. The studio puts more money into producing a bigger sequel that sloppily starts/expands their cinematic universe, said sequel backfires with a worse film that doesn't make as much money as they wanted, back to square one.

And I'm sorry, but I'm personally skeptical that with Venom's success, Sony (or at least, Arad and Rothman in particular) will leave the Spider-Man deal with Marvel Studios intact; especially if/when they score another hit with Into the Spider-Verse later this year. Maybe they won't kill the existing deal in its entirety, but I won't be surprised if (more) executive meddling nonsense starts seeping in, now that they are able to have their cake and eat it at the same time.

It's not a good movie, per se. It has a bunch of issues. That said, I'm kind of happy it's doing pretty well. I'd like to see more of Hardy and Venom, but there needs to be a LOT of work done.
