I feel the sentient that venom will have a massive drop off next week is the new venom will have a low opening weekend. I don't think it all a particular low drop or even standard but expecting an expecting low drop feels a bit odd. This thing has decent word of mouth and it's daily drops over the weekend weren't bad
Even if it somehow doesn't drop off it's still a broken franchise long term. Look at the TMNT reboot. That did well, actually took the top spot for Guardians, people liked it but it still dropped like a rock and its sequel did even worse. These kind of movies are almost always front loaded and almost never last.

So Venom is still popular.

Send it to the MCU alongside carnage:

A Marvel Studio's Production:
Spiderman & Venom in: Maximum Carnage
Featuring Captain America (if he is still alive)

The general audience seems to be enjoying this movie so I don't think you'll get your wish

Nothing this weekend really pointed to extreme frontloading either. Previews were in the typical superhero range of Friday's gross. Saturday was up 17% over Friday if you take out the 10M in previews.

No, it's a six-movie deal: three Spider-Man films and three other appearances.

And Sony will absolutely extend their deal with Marvel Studios.
The contract only extends to Far From Home. Feige and Pascal both said so.

Please don't.

C'mon, Sony - be smart about this.

If you wanna be arrogant, at least be smart about it. Just say these words to Marvel "you can have Peter; just let us have Ben Reilly."
I have been saying that's the smartest thing to do for Sony.

Can't wait to see this fucking guy.

Hopefully Carnage vs MCU Spidey/Venom for a third movie.

Venon made me feel like I was dead drunk when I watched it but it was fun enough. I don't understand anyone who legitimately thought it would be a box office appointment it was always going to do fine.

If it's really as bad as people say it is, Venom should have a big drop next week due to bad word of mouth. But a strong opening weekend like this is enough to make it profitable and basically guarantee a sequel.
Perhaps it'll have a strong hold because people who missed out this week will want to see for themselves how terrible it is.
(I assume that's how Bayformers flicks make all their money.)

America is truly lost. I blame the morons who are big time Venom fans.

This is quite the opinion.

I recognize it's not the normal one, but it's very rare my wife and I share opinions on this stuff, so it's unlikely we are the only ones who feel it. It just felt like the movie was trying to damn hard to be emotionally impactful and instead it just felt super shallow, fake and screaming "look at me, look at me, I'm emotional and an Oscar contender!" The last 15 minutes were just brutally bad, when they should have been the emotional peek of the film.

I mean yeah exactly how long it lasts matters a lot. For example there wasn't a single fresh rated Transformers film that series still made billions and lasted a long time before that issue poisoned the well.

My kids loved Venom and it was their idea to go watch it I just tagged along and enjoyed it with them. It's a good dumb hero movie and Venom has a cool factor like Spider-Man.

Welp we are for sure getting a sequel to Venom

And I wont be surprised if Sony doesnt renew their contract with Marvel

This makes zero sense to me. Venom isn't critically acclaimed, and it won't gross anywhere close to what Homecoming did. Why would Sony forgo having their Spidey films made for them - while having them come out with good ratings and great box office returns- just so they can attempt a singular universe with the IP that won't make as much money as the Marvel made films?

Evil Wins.

If Spider-Verse doesn't get a sequel and this does, I will be very, very sad.

I can't blame people for liking something I don't though. That's not my thing. I will continue to yell at Sony to do better things though. Like Spider-Verse.

... And Spider-Man 2099. Just someone give me my damn Spider-Man 2099 movie. HOW IS IT SO HARD FOR SOMEONE TO MAKE A FUTURISTIC SUPERHERO MOVIE?

So what are the chances Disney and Co. step in and say "let us handle this from here on out" since Sony pictures still has to prove itself a little bit more with superhero films?

I hate America for its taste in Venom.

Avi and Rothman will likely torpedo the MCU deal now just for Spidey vs. Venom

Yeah I really wonder what sony will do going forward.

Probably a sequel, and I guess some of the other movies we know they're planning.

I can't see this ever crossing over with the MCU though. I hope Marvel keep spider Man as long as possible. Maybe they can negotiate a version of Peter Parker eventually being in the Sony universe, but Marvel could do Miles.

Great job Venom fans. You won't be seeing him in the MCU for a long time. And if there isn't a big drop next weekend enjoy your PG13 Joker Carnage in the sequel.

Yeah, the first three Transformers films sort of came at a time where quality didn't have that much of an impact on franchise health and the series basically died the second it did. Nowadays people pay attention to reviews and word of mouth and there's many things competing for your time that a bad/mediocre movie flat out isn't worth it unless it's a curiosity piece (which I argue Venom is). I don't see this franchise, or the number of movies Sony has cooking up lasting that much longer.

Because if we've seen anything it's that Sony desperately want to create a Spider-Man Universe. And Marvel isnt going to allow the Spidey they are making in films the quality of Venom

Maybe they do extend the deal and try to create some weird Spiderverse with no Spidey in it. But I'm not assuming they are going that route yet

Guess we need to dust off that terrible wig for the carnage movie in 1-2 years.

Link? I was just reading an article that specifically stated "three Spider-Man films."

But either way, they're extending it so it doesn't really matter.
"One of the things that I think is so amazing about this experience is that you don't have studios deciding to work together to make a film very often. In fact it may never happen again, after we do the sequel. Because Sony, and Disney, and Marvel all decided that the right thing to do was to allow Peter Parker and Spider-Man to be in the MCU and to work with the Marvel guys and have them produce this film. And I think that was a very rare thing for three companies to do, and a very brilliant thing for them to decide to do because there are only so many stories that you can tell again and again and again about Spidey, and this is something that we would have never been able to do in any other way. So it was a very selfless thing that very smart on the part of all the companies." - Amy Pascal

Marvel's landmark deal with Sony has allowed the wall-crawler to enter the MCU, and Feige confirmed Spider-Man will appear in 2019's untitled Avengers 4. That's after his starring turn in Spider-Man: Homecoming and 2018's Avengers: Infinity War. After the second Avengers appearance, it will be back for a Homecoming sequel, set for 2019.

"That's as far as it goes for now," said Feige. (For now? Hmm.)

Ah, okay.

So we'll probably hear about the deal being extended sooner than later.

I am shocked movie era was wrong once again.
People were delusional to think Venom wouldn't make a shit ton of money.
Can't pin that on me, predicted a $100 million opening because of trailer views+social media engagement, but a 36% on Rotten Tomatoes
Don't think I was very far off on either
Anyway, I thought Venom was a bad movie, but enjoyable enough to rent because of Tom Hardy's performance+his relationship with the symbiote
Unless this film's success means no more Spidey in the MCU, I'm not going to get upset about it, bad movies make bank every day B

So have romantic comedies stopped being profitable? The newest release out of the top five there, released over 13 years ago.
Lifetime/ ABC Family ate up that market, no one makes mid tier movies anymore, and Rom Coms don't have a great ROI in an era where the concept of a movie star has died a bit.

You're trying really hard to convince yourself that this is 100% what's going to happen.

Nah, I'm not trying to convince myself of anything. I'm just realistic. They're going to extend the deal. It has been too successful for Sony not to.

At worst, that extension will make Venom be part of the MCU retroactively but I doubt even that.

Feige will never let these Sony movies touch the MCU. The only way Venom and co will meet Spidey is if Sony doesn't extend the deal with Marvel Studios.
