As one of the supposed 'defeatists' here (I prefer the term 'realist', myself) - I told you so. Every Democrat in the country could have marched on Washington and this confirmation would have happened anyway. We're not dealing with reasonable people here, so we shouldn't pretend they are.

Packing the court doesn't sound like a bad idea now. It's not going to happen, but it should.

I've had 1,180 posts in this forum, but I've deliberately avoided speaking the name I'm about to speak, because I know it's too controversial. But I also know that dropping this name is something that has to be done before the mid-term elections, and I've just been waiting for the right moment to do it. This seems like that moment, so here it goes:

You Bern-outs really fucked us over in 2016. You need to swallow your pride, learn from your mistakes, and get on board with the democrats from now on.
Shut the fuck up.

Kennedy is going to be there plus it's a private swearing in.

What a freaking farce. He picked his successor .

They go out together afterwards for dinner and drinks, they're buddies that think the whole thing is a simple game of chess, and their decisions send people to prison, to the streets, and to cemeteries.
This is why they don't like it when their meals are interrupted by protestors. They get reminded of what's at stake. They get reminded that it's not all just fun and games.

It does make sense to complain about your fucking EC. In the XXI century only ONCE has a republican president won with a popular majority. The EC is fixed in favor of the GOP.
Which is irrelevant. Dems know the game, they know the stakes. We can play to win a completely winnable game then work to make the system more fair or we can stay at home and complain the system makes it so that we can never win. Gee, I wonder which one is more productive in the long run...?

I don't want to be an asshole but anytime someone brings up Hillary or Bernie right now, they're fucking sandbagging progress. We have to move forward. Our losses were not because of people, but systems, Russians, and people not voting for whatever fucking reason.

Go FUCKING VOTE.
You know how it is. We need to keep being trapped in 2016 because maybe one day one of the internet arguments about it will result in some measure of satisfaction.

Manchin is just being a good politician. If you don't understand what he is doing then you are going to be on the losing side forever. He was not the deciding vote. Collins was. There is no reason why he could not play politics here for his constituents. There was literally no downside for him here.

He's not a good human being.

Nominating a bad person for SCOTUS will fuck over many people all over the USA including his constituents, just so he can keep his shit-encrusted seat.

Should really legalize rape and sexual assault, that is going to avoid those pesky protests every time the Republicans want a rapist in power.

The dems have not and will not support the broad structural changes necissary. They profit just as much if not more than the GOP from the current state of affairs in the broad view.

All signs point to him running. Barring impeachment which is nearly impossible he's running, and yeah he probably has a pretty good shot at winning again.

....what world do you live in

He'll:

1) get impeached

2) get threatened with impeachment and chooses to resign and not put up with or validate the deep state and democratic and media forces conspired against his presidency from day one

or

3) last the full 4 years without either of the above but choose to step down because...let's face it, he never really wanted to be president, doesn't really like it, it's already affecting his brand as much as it will, and will be too worried about losing in 2020 and deemed a failure to bother.

He will step down and make it seem he is doing it on his own terms and he can frame it as leaving as a winner.

This is the dumbest shit. Bernie Sanders and his supporters had nothing to do with trump winning and this shit happening. That's literally factual.

Seriously, if civility won't convince republicans to do the right thing, then we need to stop being civil with them.

That means doing shit as tame as using loud noise outside their homes to prevent them from sleeping

We've alrweady had several isntances of bigger protests than any during the civil right movement, andi t hasn't done anything

We dug our own grave centuries ago and the bad people have taken advantage of it at every turn, meanwhile the "good people" are too concerned about seeming calm and reasonable to make any real progress.

I completely agree. The problems with the political systems of US government needed fixing Id say well over a century ago. Look at Andrew Jackson and his election. watch how much that election was on personal attacks rather than policy. Look at how partisanship became more and more entrenched. These problems come about because of political systems. These systems nurture and incentivize certain behaviors and norms. Those US norms, behaviors, etc are extremely flawed despite the good intentions of America's founders. Canadian federalism was designed in such a way (designed right after the US civil war) as to avoid the US's flaws.

All things die, that is inevitable, however the collapse of the US has unprecedented potential of global catastrophe. Similar to the end of WW1, what happens after will fundamentally change the world.

The system is broken from top to bottom and has been for a very long time. It is a miracle that the country has functioned this long with inane garbage like this.

How could anyone possibly expect judges to be neutral and stay out of politics with a system like this? Why do you need a guy from the U.K. to tell you this is ridiculous? In the U.S., the entire profession is political by design. And in the last few weeks, we have seen the natural outcome of that.

As an outsider, are they gonna re-do the abortion law now?

Technically, all the Supreme Court can do is overturn Roe v Wade which allows abortion on a Federal level. Abortion would then only be legal in States which allow it (likely all Blue states and a handful of Red states). For Abortion to be banned Nationally it would require a Constitutional Amendment which is incredibly unlikely to happen.

I can't for the life of me embed a tweet but this is the text. Your American political system is completely fucked up:

Kavanaugh was nominated by a candidate who lost the popular vote by 3 million+ votes.

The 49 Senators who voted 'No' on Kavanaugh represent 181.8 million Americans.

The 51 Senators who voted 'Yes' represent 143.2 million.

Our political system is broken.

The Senate has outlived its usefulness and needs to be substantially reformed if not outright abolished.

I've never had any intention on being civil with republicans. Even when I merely disagreed with them. They are actively subverting democracy and placing their party above the country. This is what the founding fathers warned of. And those assholes love trotting out the genius of the founding fathers with regards to the constitution. A document rife with hypocrisy and hatred.

What an utter fucking farce. This country continues to wave a giant middle finger in the direction of women and minorities.

Please channel this anger at the voting booth next month.
